In the 20th century alone, 20

major earthquakes claimed more

than 140,000 lives, destroyed

several villages and cities and

caused extensive economic

damage to Iran.9

History of earthquakes in Kerman province

An earthquake with 6.9 magnitude

on Richter scale in 1981 with 3000 death and many injuries.

Another earthquake in 1981 with

7.3 magnitude on Richter scale in

1981 with 1500 death and 1000 injuries. 10

major fault lines.
