Dear Parents, At assembly last Monday Peter H, Jerry Q, Jason Z and Hussein A, all current Year 6 students were the scheduled presenters. Public speaking in front of an audience of over 400 people can be quite daunting even in your first lan- guage. I was so very proud of all presenters who stepped out of their comfort zone to speak willingly and with quiet confidence about the week ahead events and presenting student certificates. Harry D, pianist, Sammy C on French horn, Rowan P cellist and Alia F flautist then entertained us with a most moving music performance of In Dreamsfrom the movie The Hobbit’. The audience was spellbound. How talented are our Year 6 students! For the last two Wednesday afternoons our 2018 Foundation students have visited the school as part of our comprehensive transition program. It is such a delight to see them bounding into school with a sense of eagerness and anticipation. The children enthusiastically answer questions and respond to teachersdirections and before you know it they are participating in activities just like our current Foun- dation students! The Foundation teachers of 2017; Catherine, Robyn and Kathryn along with our specialist team; Mr John Davey, Mrs Zelema Levy and Mr Aaron Hare are to be congratulated on conducting such entertaining sessions for our prospective students.

Dear Parents, At assembly last Monday Peter H, Jerry Q, Jason Z and Hussein A, all current Year 6 students were the scheduled presenters. Public speaking in front of an audience of over 400 people can be quite daunting even in your first lan-guage. I was so very proud of all presenters who stepped out of their comfort zone to speak willingly and with quiet confidence about the week ahead events and presenting student certificates. Term 4 is a time for hard work and for celebration. Teachers are busily writing student reports outlining student achievements towards attaining their learning goals. At the same time teachers are preparing stu-dents for their next step in their learning journeys by having transition sessions into their 2018 learning spaces. Class lists are still being formulated for next year and staff allocation is almost complete. Melbourne’s weather has lived up to its reputation this week. Please remember your child needs a SunSmart school hat at this time of the year, whether the day is sunny or not. As the temperature creeps up, we also recommend that all students have a water bottle at school to keep them hydrated, no matter how hot or cold it is. If it does become very hot or windy, we activate our extreme weather plan and stu-dents spend part or all of the day inside. The following asthma information is relevant to all families, as some students may experience their first asthma attack whilst at school and potentially thunderstorm asthma. If your child is asthmatic, we need your doctor to complete an Asthma Care Plan. The plan should be up-dated annually and provided to the office. If we do not have an Asthma Care Plan for your asthmatic child, or if it is more than 12 months old, please visit your doctor ASAP to complete a new plan and review your child’s medical needs. For more information, or to find the ready-to-complete and Updated Victorian Asthma Plan for your child, please see https://www.asthmaaustralia.org.au/vic/about-asthma/resources/victorian-action-plans As we head into a very busy and often frenetic time of the year it is especially important to be vigilant regarding your child’s safety. Safety on our roads of course and also cyber safety for our older students. It is important to be aware of the kinds of internet sites your child is frequenting and the people they are as-sociating with. Just like you know the friends your child has at school, online friends shouldn’t be any different, you should know them too. In an ideal world, your child would never post a photo of herself online, but that might not be entirely realistic. If they do want to share photos with friends via email or a social networking site, be sure you know exactly which pictures are being posted and be sure they are ap-propriate. One last reminder, please be respectful of our neighbouring properties. This week I was told by a neighbour in Somers Street that a parent had parked over their driveway and they were unable to enter their own property! This type of discourteous behaviour warrants a fine of $110.00 if observed by a bylaws officer. So please be considerate and set a decent example for our drivers of the future.

Regards Gayle

A big thanks to the families who came along and supported the children, and an extra special thank you to the friends and families who sponsored their child/ren. This event has raised over $3,300, which will go directly to the school. The prizes will arrive before the end of the school year and will be distributed by the class teachers. A particular “well done” to Ms Heeps Foundation B who raised the most money, and also congratulations to Samuel M from FB as the highest fundraiser of 2017!

KIDS NEON DISCO The Kids Disco in the PAC on 1st November was a huge hit with the children, bopping along to the tunes played by past parent, Dallas. Special thanks to Anita Power and Kelly Baird for their preparation and co-ordination, and to all the parents who volunteered to help with selling glowies and entry fees. The Disco raised over $900, and the smiles from the children as they left made it so rewarding! It was a bit chilly to enjoy the Wine and Cheese offered by parents, Meaghan Courtney and Jo Cooke on the Foundation Deck, but for those who dressed accordingly, it was a lovely way to spend the time waiting for the disco to finish!

SCHOOL FUN RUN October 26th saw our annual WPPS Fun Run up at Wattle Park. The children had a fantastic time and did as many laps of the set course in the allocated hour as they could, followed by an icypole back at school. We couldn’t have asked for better weather, not too hot and not too cold! Thank you to all the teachers who walked their classes up, Mr Feather for running the warm-up, Mr Thompson for doing the starters gun, and Mr Hare for his organisation
