DESCRIPTION

Third graders at Hillel Day School of Metropolitan Detroit learn about the city of Detroit through a bus tour and through research. In school, each student researches the significance and history of a specific place in Detroit. Students learn to summarize, take notes, and turn their notes into a well crafted paragraph. Each student then designs a slide in PowerPoint to teach others about the importance of their place. The slides include information from students’ research, from personal knowledge, and from the actual tour of Detroit that the third graders take in the spring. The work for this project was done in students’ classrooms and in their weekly computer class with Ms. Rothfeld.

The Fisher Building The Fisher Building is a great place to go when you have nothing going on. It has a radio station , WJR , that broadcasts from there. It also has daycare, stores, food, art, workers and a theater. There was gold on the top of the building, but they changed it to green. This is what makes this place unique to me: My Papa Louie was the owner a long time ago before he passed away. Here are some interesting facts. They started to build the Fisher Building in 1927 and finished in 1928. Why would someone want to visit this place? First, if people have kids, they can shop while the kids go to daycare. Second, people can eat there. Third, they can get a job!!! These are reasons why you should go to the Fisher Building.
