Aditya Dev Sood

Aditya Dev Sood is a leading expert on innovation, particu-larly its relationship with design, entrepreneurship and so-cial change. He is a trained architect and a former Fulbright scholar, with degrees in diverse Social Science and Humani-ties disciplines. He received his doctorates in Anthropology and Sanskrit Philology from the University of Chicago.

Dr. Sood is the founder and CEO of the Center for Knowledge Societies (CKS), an innovation consultancy that uses ethnography, design analysis and user experience modeling to make new things possible. CKS is an author-ity of design and innovation for emerging economies, and has worked with Indian and international partners to bring about change in areas such as mobile services, healthcare, medical technologies and financial inclusion.

On weekends he can be found making sculpture, brewing beer and wrestling with his forthcoming book on design, innovation and society.

Sunil Abraham

Sunil is a Bangalore-based social entrepreneur and the executive director of the Centre for Internet and Society (CIS), in Bangalore. CIS critically engages with concerns of digital pluralism, public accountability and pedagogic practices in the field of Internet and Society with particular emphasis on South-South dialogue. Through multidisci-plinary research, intervention, and collaboration, CIS seeks to explore, understand and affect the shape and form of the internet and its relationship with the political, cultural and social milieu of our times.

Sunil is an Ashoka fellow and was elected for a Sarai FLOSS fellowship. For three years, Sunil also managed the Interna-tional Open Source Network, a project of United Nations Development Programme’s Asia-Pacific Development Information Programme.

Harsh Shrivastava

Harsh Shrivastava is an Independent Director at Meghalaya Institute of Entrepreneurship and a Consultant (Planning) with the Planning Commission of India. He is a special-ist in communication, marketing and public policy and is interested in the inter-linkages between politics, policies, and profits. He has worked in the Prime Minister’s Office, in the Confederation of Indian Industry, as a journalist and with an NGO.

He has been Vice President at Reliance Capital and Market-ing at Feedback Ventures also Director at Confederation of Indian Industry. Having worked in the Prime Minister’s Office, in the Confederation of Indian Industry, he is in-volved in communication, marketing, and public policy and interested in the inter-linkages between politics, policies, and profits.

Aditya Mishra

Aditya Mishra is a Co-founder & Managing Director of Headstart Network Foundation. Headstart is a not-for-profit company that promotes entrepreneurship in India and very well known amongst early stage entrepreneurs for its events Startup Saturdays. Aditya advises several early stage start ups and incubators in the areas of starting up, product/service development, business planning, sales and marketing.

In his day job at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Ltd, he leads a sales team focused on Indian Banks and NBFCs. His past work at TCS Ltd has included starting new businesses as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence, assisting the CTO in man-aging and governing the overall Innovation Labs, innova-tion assets and innovation processes at TCS, and strategic investments into startups and Mergers & Acquisition.

Samar Halankar

Samar is Editor at Large at the Hindustan Times and MINT. Samar is an award-winning science writer and has extensively covered the cutting edge of science, technology and medicine. He was the managing editor of the newspa-per till 2009 and has moved out of his mangerial position to focus on his writing. Halarnkar has been a journalist for about 20 years and has worked at The Times of India, the India Today Group and The Indian Express prior to joining HT.

Mint is a business newspaper from HT Media Ltd, launched in collaboration with The Wall Street Journal in February, 2007. It is a premium business news publication aimed at decision makers and policy-makers of the country and it is the first newspaper in India to be published in the Berliner format.

Amit Garg

Amit Garg is a Founding Director at MXV Consulting. He started his career with the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and worked with their offices in Mumbai, Melbourne and New Delhi. At BCG he worked on the restructuring of business conglomerates and public sector enterprises. In 2006, Amit founded MXV Consulting, where he focuses on areas of strategy, governance and organisation develop-ment.

Amit’s consulting experience spans more than 30 different industry segments, with an emphasis on the services sector. He has been an advisor to several of India’s most respected companies. Amit completed his Bachelors in Electronics Engineering and Masters in Science from BITS Pilani, and MBA from IIM Ahmedabad. Amit writes regularly on top-ics of business management.

Naresh Narasimhan

Naresh Narasimhan is Managing Partner of Venkataraman-an Associates (VA), a 40-year-old Architecture firm based in Bangalore. He graduated in Architecture from the Manipal Institute of Technology. He also studied Project Appraisal and Risk Management at Harvard.

Naresh has led the expansion of VA into diversified mar-kets with particular strengths in Research and development, specialized manufacturing, IT business parks, public and institutional buildings, corporate offices and realty. With a sound understanding of global trends in project planning, architectural design, urban design, and infrastructure within a sustainable framework, Naresh also has a keen interest in design theory, economics and information systems. He ad-vises urban government agencies on infrastructure develop-ment.

Sudhir Krishnaswamy

Sudhir Krishnaswamy is a Fellow at the Centre for Law and Policy Research, Bangalore and a Professor of Law at the Azim Premji University, Bangalore where he leads the Law, Governance and Development Initiative. Earlier, he was at the National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata, National Law School of India University, Bangalore and Pembroke College, Oxford.

Sudhir studied law at the National Law School of India University, Bangalore and University of Oxford. He has worked with government at various levels including the Prime Minister’s Committee on Infrastructure and the Kasturirangan Committee on Bangalore’s Governance. His research interests include constitutional law, administrative and intellectual property law and reform of the legal system and legal education. His book ‘Democracy and Constitu-tionalism in India’ was published in 2009.

Jayna Kothari

Jayna is a founder members of CLPR. She graduated from University Law College with a B.A.L LL.B degree. She also completed her post-graduate studies as a Bachelor in Civil Law at the University of Oxford. She has also taught in University Law College, as well as National Law School of India University, Bangalore. In 2008, Jayna was awarded the Wrangler D.C. Pavate Fellowship in the University of Cam-bridge. She is also a recipient of the National Child Rights Fellowship, 2010 awarded by Child Rights and You.

Having practiced previouly in the Supreme Court of India in the Office of Ms. Indira Jaising, Jayna is now a partner in Ashira Law, a law firm in Bangalore and is practicing in the High Court of Karnataka. . Her focus areas of interest and expertise include disability law, constitutional law, human rights and intellectual property law.

Zackery Denfeld

Zackery is a designer and educator who has worked in the U.S., India and Europe. Last year he helped launch a Mas-ters degree of Collaborative Design in Portland, OR, USA. He has worked with CKS on the Emerging Economy Re-port and with CSTEP‘s Next Generation Infrastructure Lab and has several years experience as an educator, designer and convener of workshops and conferences that imagine a more robust, interesting and just world.

Currently Zack is spending most of his time with the Center for Genomic Gastronomy, cooking food for the Planetary Sculpture Supper Club. He holds degrees from University of Michigan and Syracuse University.

Anant Shah

Anant Shah is a Program Officer on the Vaccine Delivery team in the Global Health Program at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Anant currently manages an effort in partnership with local organizations and Indian govern-ments to improve maternal, newborn, and child health in India.

Ashwin Mahesh

Ashwin Mahesh is an urban affairs researcher at IIM Ban-galore and the Government of Karnataka. He also works at Mapunity and co-edits the public affairs magazine, India Together.

Arun Pande

Dr. Arun K. Pande is currently Head of TCS Innovation Lab. He has over 25 years of experience in conducting research, technology development, deployment and man-agement. Dr. Pande holds a PhD in Electrical Engineer-ing from University of Notre Dame, USA. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and is serving on the Industry Advisory Board of WCET programme of IEEE.

Dilini Wijeweera

Dilini has been working with the Knowledge to Innovation (K2I) and CPRsouth projects at LIRNEasia. She specializes in knowledge management, communication and process improvement. Before joining LIRNEasia, Dilini worked in the CGIAR as Head of Communication and Knowledge Sharing at the International Water Management Institute.

Eswaran Subrahmanian

Dr. Eswaran Subrahmanian is a Distinguished Research Fellow and Project Director, NGIL, CSTEP. He is also a Research Professor at Carnegie Mellon University; Guest Researcher, Design Process Group, Manufacturing Engi-neering Lab, National Institute of Standards and Visiting Professor in the Technology Policy and Management Fac-ulty at TU Delft Netherlands.

Ekta Ohri

Ekta Ohri is the Head of Project Operations at CKS. Trained in Architecture, Visual and Critical Studies, and Anthropology, she is interested in exploring links between design, culture, and lived experience. She has experience in both design and business applications of ethnography and is currently involved in supervising projects in multiple sec-tors, such as healthcare, telecom, finance and m-commerce.

Gaurav Gupta

Gaurav Gupta heads Dalberg in Asia, a social impact consulting firm, and also co-leads the firm’s Energy and Environment practice. Earlier, he started the Climate Proj-ect India with Al Gore and spent six years at The Boston Consulting Group in Sydney and London.

Harish Bijoor

Harish Bijoor is a brand domain specialist operating out of Bangalore. He runs a unique boutique consulting outfit branded Harish Bijoor Consults Inc., a brand name that has a consulting presence across the markets of Hong Kong, Seattle, London , Dubai and the Indian sub-continent.

M.P. Ranjan

Professor M P Ranjan is a designer and used to be a member of the Faculty at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad (NID), India for over 40 years. He is presently involved with changing India’s design policy and theoriz-ing widely on social, cultural, aesthetic and visual change in India on his blog Design for India.

Jamuna Ramakrishna

Jamuna Ramakrishna is Director of the India Regional Office of Hivos, a Dutch humanist development founda-tion. The nature of her work is such that it often leads to questions regarding the relationship between innovation, development and social change. Jamuna’s academic back-ground is in Geography, and she is particularly interested in issues related to development, gender and health.

Mahesh Murthy

Mahesh Murthy is one of India’s recognised experts in youth marketing - having helped launch MTV India, run Channel V and managed offline and online marketing ef-forts for brands like Pepsi, Nike, Idea Cellular, Lipton and The Economist. Mahesh is also a columnist with the Wall Street Journal.

Namrata Mehta

Namrata Mehta is a Senior Design Researcher at CKS and works closely on developing mobile solutions for remote populations in emerging economies. She has a post gradu-ate degree from the Center for Experimental Media Arts, Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology, and a gradu-ate degree in Sociology from Delhi University.

Riku Makela

Riku Mäkelä is the Director of FinNode India, New Delhi based operation of the Finnish FinNode Innovation Net-work. His other work experience includes positions as an entrepreneur in ICT and travel sectors, marketing manager of healthcare devices, IT consultant and researcher.

Reto Wettach

Reto Wettach is a Professor at the University of Applied Sciences in Potsdam/Germany. Reto is also a design direc-tor with the Interaction Design Studios (IxDS), Berlin. Previously Reto has worked at the Interaction Design Institute in Ivrea, and as a designer/researcher with Sony in Tokyo and Ideo in San Francisco.

Ramesh Ramanathan

Ramesh Ramanathan is co-founder of Janaagraha and Chairman of Janalakshmi, an urban microfinance institution in India. Ramesh is National Technical Advisor for JN-NURM; Principal Advisor, State Urban Agenda for Rajast-han; member of the Expert Committee on Urban Finances. Previously, Ramesh worked with Citibank in New York and London.

Rohini Nilekani

Rohini Nilekani is Founder-Chairperson, Arghyam, and Pratham Books. She was previously Chairperson for Ak-shara Foundation. Rohini Nilekani spent several years as a journalist, and has just released Uncommon Ground, a series of dialogues between top leaders of corporate and social sectors in India.

Shehla Hussain

Shehla Hussain is a design researcher at CKS. Having completed her graduate studies in Architecture, she has been involved in various projects ranging from branchless banking in rural areas to designing for antenatal diagnostics in emerging economies as well as mapping and forecasting of visual design trends.

Sneha Raman

Sneha Raman manages the innovation team at CKS Ban-galore. Formally trained in design, her focus is to extend design thinking beyond its mainstream functions and to apply for developing better and sustainable socio-economic systems. She has developed expertise in the area of rural healthcare, particularly focusing on ways of improving ma-ternal and child healthcare in the developing regions.

Shiv Vishwanathan

Shiv Visvanathan is a sociologist of science and author of Organizing for Science and A Carnival for Science. Shiv was Senior Fellow CSDS, Delhi and has taught at the Delhi School of Economics. He has held visiting professorships at Smith (Massachusetts) Stanford, Goldsmiths(London) Arizona and Maastrich.

Udhay Shankar

Udhay Shankar works to identify new business initiatives in emerging markets for Intel Corporation. Previously, he has been an entrepreneur, investor, and product/technology strategy consultant. He is also fascinated by the notion of virtual community and has been an active participant and moderator in several online experiments in virtual commu-nity for the past 2 decades.

V. A. Sudarshan is a Member of the Legislative Council, Karnataka. He has served as a member of Public Accounts Committee, and committees on Public undertaking, welfare of Backward Classes and minorities, Parliamentary Affairs, Members Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Hus-bandry & Fisheries Dept.
