Deccan and FDNY

Deccan is proud to support the Fire Department of New York, (FDNY), collaborating with both the Fire and EMS divisions to conduct data-driven analyses of proposed and actual deployment changes.

Utilizing BARB software, FDNY Fire has reviewed and revised the run orders associated with each response box on a borough-by-borough basis, ensuring that the closest responding unit available in the system is dispatched to emergency incidents. FDNY EMS relies on the BARB software to select which hospital a patient should be transported to, based on the associated travel time and the ability of that hospital to treat the patient’s particular condition. As one component of the process to determine what, if any, units may be added or removed from service, both FDNY Fire and EMS exploit the HPC ADAM modeling

tool. When faced with possible budget cuts, FDNY can generate the optimal order of units to be considered for removal, and then closely examine the impact these potential unit closures would have on the remaining units’ workloads.

FDNY EMS has further employed HPC ADAM to assist in the consideration of new post locations. The recent placement of a unit at a relocated post allowed paramedics to respond within seconds to a woman having a massive heart attack at a nearby fitness center. Thanks to a response time under two minutes, the woman made a full recovery.

ADAM simulations calculate and model a single unit’s response performance. However, especially in busy departments, units are not always available. Hypercube (HPC) ADAM factors unit availability into its calculations for a more accurate model. With HPC ADAM, for example, explore precisely how adding a medic unit to a busy area can create more balanced field performance.

BARB Box Automated Run-card Builder

BARB automates the building of static run-cards (pick lists). BARB builds run-cards in minutes, saving your department hundreds (if not thousands) of labor hours, all while eliminating the risk of human error.

Quick and Error Free Run-cardsBARB provides a seamless and fail-safe process for incorporating data-driven run-cards into any CAD system. BARB operates independently of CAD and allows run-cards to be exported directly into the CAD system.

Export Run-cards to CAD

In the event of a CAD system failure, BARB functions as an excellent backup by providing complete run order information for instant and accurate incident dispatch. In this way BARB can stand in as a “proxy” to CAD.

Use BARB as a CAD BackupBARB is a comprehensive quality assurance tool, allowing users to verify road network maps used in Fire & EMS incident dispatch. BARB provides a “sanity check” on routing attributes such as street accessibility.

Perform Street Network QA

BARB can build run-cards in minutes to reflect real/potential changes to an area’s field deployment or road network. Modify field deployment for scenarios such as station or unit closure, and make road network modifications to account for road closures, special events, and much more.

Automated Run-card Building and Robust Disaster Planning in One Application

Prepare for disasters by building run-cards over 1000 stations or units deep! Include mutual-aid agreements and specialty vehicles for a complete regional disaster plan.

BARB fosters interoperability by allowing for the inclusion of tow trucks, bulldozers, etc. With BARB, your department will be ready for any disaster imaginable.

Deccan’s Dispatch Validator (DiVa) is a critical tool for Communication Centers transitioning from traditional run-card based CAD to AVL subsystems. Built on robust run-card based models, DiVa is capable of evaluating both static run orders (from run-card based CAD) and AVL-identified closest resources

DiVa and BARB - Extending the Power of BARB

Loudoun County BARB ExperienceOver the last 10 years there has been an increasing demand for advanced deployment tools to prepare Fire Departments for potential disasters. Loudoun County, Virginia, took a major step forward in this regard by acquiring BARB. The agency has used BARB to add over 200 mutual-aid stations to its run order, despite not having map data for any of these stations. In the event of a major disaster,

Loudoun County is equipped with run cards that include more than 200 mutual-aid

stations spanning over 50 miles.

to provide dispatchers with a necessary decision-support and verification tool for day-to-day operations.

DiVa eliminates the need for dispatchers to reference run-card books to cross-check AVL recommendations. The application sits right on the dispatchers desktop and features blazing fast processing for quick, easy queries.

This map of Loudoun County includes run cards for more than 200 mutual-aid stations
