Director's Message by Jason Edge

Hello All! I hope 2013 finds you all well and fully recovered from the Holidays! In this newsletter we have a delightful spotlight of Debra “Dwight Yoakam Fan” McDonald and her and husband Chris 1964 Series 62 6 Window Sedan, chapter and website updates, and a few other odds and ends. A Double Delight! I have to start off this issue with “a brag” … or a “double brag”! The very night I was uploading our Nov/Dec 2012 Newsletter to the CLC site, I saw that I had made the cover of the January Self Starter (and their website). This followed just two months after making the cover of the Carolina Region November newsletter, and I was of course very thrilled. Needless to say it is a huge honor for me to have my car featured in the premier car club magazine! I have to send a big thank you out to Steve Stewart and Tim Coy for the Self Starter cover and feature story of my Cadillac. I am also equally thankful to Carolina Region Newsletter Editor Travis Dowell for featuring my car in our local club newsletter and having me and Cheryl in their wonderful region! If there is a life lesson to this story, it would be that if you stick with your passion, respect and work with those that share that passion, and trust your gut instinct, you will see many rewards in return down the line. On a very personal level, my greatest reward is serving as your chapter director and seeing our club go from strength to strength!

Boston Grand National Reminder The host hotel is now sold out on Monday, July 29, Tuesday July 30, and Saturday, August 3. Please make your reservations for these nights in the alternate hotel. There is information on the main and alternate hotels at this link: www.nerclc.com/hotel CLC Membership Reminder Having been approved for permanent Chapter Status in January 2012, our club is now a year old and one of my responsibilities as chapter director is to ensure that all of our chapter members are also current members of the Cadillac LaSalle club. The CLC makes it very easy to go online at www.cadillaclasalleclub.org/joinrenew and renew via credit card, e-check or PayPal. If your membership has lapsed, please go online and renew today!

Website Updates: New Features Recently Added to our Website

Website Header and Appearance Changes There were no big cosmetic changes this past month, however, I did add a basic Contact information

page which you now see in the header section. The header links were also shifted around a bit to make

room for the Contact page link. I can create a 4th

row of links at the bottom of the header but I believe it

starts getting too busy. Another option is to create nested page links.

Adding More Content via Sub-Tabs

We also have the option of creating sub-tabs to add more pages to the website. I have used this feature

sparingly up to this point, but can use more in the future if we end up with many more pages we want to

link to from the header section. To see how this works, go to the website and hover over the ‘Join our

Chapter’ link and you will see a drop box with links to Chapter Flyers and Chapter Members. It’s just

another tool in the website tool box we can pursue more in the future.

Help Topics Page Additions Keep in mind we are constantly adding help topic items to our Help Topics Page which you can access

from the website header tab or the URL help.6364cadillac.com.

Some of the new entries added in the last few weeks have included: Engine Paint Colors and Engine Painting Tips (from last month’s newsletter) Body Name Plate (expanded) Body Styles and VIN #'s (expanded) Engine Unit Number - Decoded and Defined (expanded) Vacuum Schematics and Pictures

National Events Added Each Month! Since our 63/64 Cadillac Chapter has members spread out all over the USA and world, last month I

started adding national Car Shows to our events website page and newsletter using the very handy

Hemming car event search tool. For the January newsletter coming out shortly I have added Car

Auctions and will expand to include swap meets, etc. in the future. If you have specific events in your

area not on the list please feel free to go to www.events.6364cadillac.com and add your events!

Dressed in Period Correct Attire with 1964 Cadillac

Debra with the 1964 at an event in Trenton Michigan called Somewhere in Time whereby you dress the period of your car. Chris calls this the 200 mile dress since they travelled all over southern Michigan to find an original Jackie Kennedy style dress. Deb

really gets into it as you can see and that is why she loves the 64 so much.

Anniversary Gift for a Dwight Yoakam Fan

by Chris McDonald

As long as I have known my wife, Debra, she has been a Dwight Yoakam super fan whereby we would go

to every concert possible. We have even travelled out of state and to Canada for his concerts. Her favorite

song and video of all time is Guitars, Cadillacs so when trying to find her the ultimate anniversary gift it

finally hit me. Find a blue four door Cadillac just like the one in the video. I looked and looked and finally

found a 1964 blue Series 62 six window that was pretty close to the look of the 1963 four door. The irony

was that in the video you see Dwight and the band out touring honky-tonks but stuck waiting to have the

car fixed and its up on a hoist. Well, within a half hour of us picking up the 64’ in southern Indiana it was

up on a hoist getting the brakes fixed so we could drive the 180 miles back home in Michigan. I should

have paid more attention to that part of the video.

Anyway, Debra loves the car as you can see by the vanity plate on the front that she designed with the

famous Dwight look. We did have the interior redone by one of Jay Leno’s guys who specializes in

interior work. Debra has won Best in Show and Best in Show Interior at local events. She has also shown

it in period dress at a Somewhere in Time car show. It is a great driver and she loves the 64’ almost as

much as she loves Dwight.” Check out our “Looking Back” section for more on Dwight & Guitars!

Deb and Chris serve as Activities Director Vice Presidents for the Motor City Region Cadillac LaSalle

Club and are coordinating this year’s Woodward Cruise Event August 17, 2013 and are renting the

Olga’s Parking Lot on Woodward just south of 13 Mile. According to Chris, this is like the center of

the world for the cruise and last year was their first year there and it was a great spot to show off

about 40 Cadillac and LaSalle cars. They will send along info as they go forward with plans. We of

course would love to include pictures and stories from this great cruise-in!

Removing the Dash Pad

by Jason Edge

1964 Cadillac Dash Pad

- remove upper and lower phillips finish screw

holding the a-pillar finish trim and remove trim.

- remove 3 finish phillips screws at top of chrome

instrument cluster bezel that scew up and into clips

in the dash.

- remove two 5/16" hex head metal screws inside

glove box up top to left and right of latch that screw

up and into clips on the dash.

- use a flat pry bar or large flat screwdriver to gently

wedge in behind the "dash legs” about 2/3’s of the

way down to pop them out of the clips that hold

them against the metal dash. These legs have a ball

stud that presses into a retaining clip in the dash

near the bottom of the dash. Use cloth or something

soft behind pry bar to protect dash paint. (See

picture above with arrow pointing to legs that pry

away from metal dash)

==> Note: If you have a 64 Cadillac with AC and the

in-car sensor and plastic grill in the outer ridge of the

dash just left of center of dash, be sure to not grab

the plastic grill as it is brittle and will break. Also be

sure not to bump it into anything when removing.

Treat that piece with respect as they are easy to

break!

- with dash legs pulled away from the dash raise the

front of dash up and pull out toward you a few

inches. There are wire clips at back that engage and

holds the dash down and in place. You will sort of

feel it release.

- Once raised up a bit, disconnect the wire

connectors for courtesy lights (far left and right on

64, center on 63), and optional items if equipped

including cruise control control wheel and switch

assembly (top left of dash), twilight sentinel

photocell dash sensor (64 option on top left front

corner of dash), and guidematic phototube (in

center top on 63's with guidematic auto-dimming).

- From there lift up, and pull back and out.

Depending on condition the vinyl can be very brittle

and all it may take is a heavy hand to crack the

vinyl... especially across the top where it has baked

in the Sun for 49/50 years.

With the spotlight on Debra and Chris McDonalds Cadillac and her “enthusiasm” for both Dwight Yoakam and Cadillacs, we include screen shots from Dwiight Yoakam’s excellent “Guitiars, Cadillacs” video in this month’s “Looking Back” section. “Guitars, Cadillacs" is the title of a song written and recorded by Dwight Yoakam. It was released in June 1986 as the second single and partial title track released from his 1986 debut album Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc.. We include old articles, write-ups, ads, pictures, collectibles, toys, etc. in our “Looking Back” section. Please feel free to share anything you would like to include in our “Looking Back” section.

Parts Suppliers Page

We have a website page that lists many parts suppliers along with their contact information to help members

quickly find those hard-to-find restoration parts. You can access the page by clicking on the page tab beneath

the website header or you can use the link partssuppliers.6364cadillac.com.

NOTE for Parts Sellers and Members Looking for Parts I encourage parts sellers that want to post something specific for sale to post messages, pictures etc., and title as

“For Sale - …” and tag as partsforsale. For those looking for a part or parts I encourage you to post messages,

pictures, etc. and title them “Wanted - ….” and tag as partswanted. By using a tag without the space between

words, it makes searching for these For Sale and Wanted items much easier as it filters out all the other posts

that might have the words parts, for, and sale.

Spotlighted “In House” Parts Suppliers

We have several “in house” parts supplier members listed up top and encourage you to check with them for

your parts needs. If there are other members selling parts on the side, we can add them to the list. Just send

email to [email protected] with your contact information as you would like to have it listed. If you are

aware of another good parts supplier source, also feel free to provide their information so we can add to our

growing list. Below is a list of our current. Below is a list of our current Spotlighted Parts Suppliers:
