Teachers and students worked very hard to put on fun and interesting displays. Special mention to Miss Mott and the Catering Team, as well as the Performing Arts students and staff who provided entertainment throughout the evening. It is always great to see many old scholars come and visit on the night, as well as families and prospective students. Term 1 is a long term, with many events and activities. With three weeks to go, there are a number of excursions still to happen, SACSA and SSSA Athletics, a Year 7 Sleep-Out, and Parent-Teacher Interviews. As teachers work on finalising Term 1 results, please encourage your children to still put in their best effort over the coming weeks. Assessment tasks completed after the results due date are usually counting towards the Term 2 Semester report. If you have any concerns about your child’s progress you are welcome to contact teachers at any time, however we would encourage you to keep the evening of Tuesday 9 th April free for interviews. Our Parents and Friends Committee is looking for new members. Lisa Kelly has just been appointed as the new Chairperson, with Cheryl Lockyer as Deputy Chairperson. Please feel welcome to join or just come along to a meeting when you get the chance. Our next meeting is on Wednesday, 15th May 2019 at 7pm. Our school motto ‘Pursing excellence for the glory of God’ reminds us that it is the pursuit of excellence, not necessarily always being able to achieve excellence, that brings glory to God. Not all of us will be able to achieve excellence, but we can all give of our very best in all situations. In recognising the importance of the pursuit of excellence, one of the most important awards that students can receive is the Certificate of Merit for Excellence in Attitude. In each subject, a student is able to achieve an Attitude Merit by having an above satisfactory attitude and making sure there are no concerns in the areas of behaviour, submission of work and work effort. If they are able to achieve an Attitude Merit in every subject, they will receive the Certificate of Merit Excellence in Attitude. This award is achievable by all students, as it recognises hard work, perseverance and trying your best in each of the subjects. At times students come very close and miss out in just one subject. In recognition of their hard work they receive an Attitude Endeavour Award. Awards are also given for academic achievement. In each subject students receive a result out of 100. The Grade Point Average (GPA) for students is then calculated by adding the results of each subject studied and dividing by the number of subjects studied. If a student scores between 80- 85 they receive a Credit. If students score between 85-90 they receive a Distinction, for 90-95 they receive a High Distinction and for 95 and above they receive a High Distinction with Honours. Students need to work hard in every subject as they all contribute to the GPA. Students will receive these awards at a Presentation Assembly at the start of next term. The 2019 Inter House Athletics Carnival was held on Wednesday, 6th March, at SA Athletics Stadium. It was a beautifully

cool day and even rained shortly in the afternoon but that didn’t deter from the day! This was the first year we welcomed

Temple Marion to come participate alongside Mile End and consequently was the largest Athletics carnival we have held.

We also had a record level of attendance this year with 91% of students from our campus being at the event. Students

were able to showcase their skills throughout the Track and Field events running during the day. Our students showed

great involvement with 301 students participating in at least one event. The 800 and 1500m events were run prior to the

carnival in Weeks 5 and 6. As a school, we are amazed each year of the commitment, talent and skill of new and existing

students who represent their house with enthusiasm. I would personally like to thank all house participants, house leaders,

Sports Captains, staff and parents for their contributions to this day. Without a great team effort this year’s Athletics Carni-

val would not have been the success that it was.

The results for the day are as follows:

The following students were age champions:

West 1668

East 977

North 895

South 743

U13 Girls Imogen Perris

U14 Boys Noah Villanueva

U15 Girls Aliya Watkins

U15 Boys Declan Whelan

On Friday of Week 7, the whole school participated in

our annual Inter House Cross Country competition. We

were able to organise the day in conjunction with Betha-

sistent course across both schools. This year, all stu-

dents participated in the 3km race. Below are the results

from the day. Well done to all who participated!

Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.

Now that the year is well under way, it’s time to embark on the Premier’s Read-

ing Challenge. Each year at Temple a large number of students record the

reading they do through the year to participate in the challenge. The goal is to

read at least 12 books of an appropriate level by September 6th and these can

include novels, audio books, ebooks and non-fiction.

Participants need to record their reading on the official Record Sheet (available

from the Learning Hub or as an electronic record via Documents in SEQTA).

Successful participants will receive an award at years end, whilst all partici-

pants receive house points even if they don’t reach 12 books. The PRC is a

great opportunity to encourage students to read which develops their literacy

skills as they explore, discover and expand their knowledge. Reading lists

are available on the Learning Hub webpage via SEQTA or on

www.premiersreadingchallenge.sa.edu.au
