Dear Prospective Volunteers:

The Hatboro-Horsham School District values its volunteers, and the worthwhile services they provide to

benefit the children in our schools.

The collective safety, health, and well-being of those who enter our buildings, and work with our

students, is of the upmost importance. Therefore, volunteers who support our students will be asked to

adhere to the same standards as our staff, when on site.

• Volunteers will be asked to present their valid vaccination record.

• If you cannot provide proof of your vaccination status, you will be asked to produce a negative

COVID-19 test result, completed within 48 hours of your visit.

• Volunteers are required to wear a mask while in our schools.

In addition, Pennsylvania law requires all persons having direct contact with school children to obtain

background checks and clearances. Therefore, the Hatboro-Horsham School District requires the

submission of these clearances prior to volunteering.

Further information can be found on our website: https://www.hatboro-horsham.org/Page/705

If you have any questions about what is explained above, you are welcome to contact me for further

guidance.

Thank you for your commitment to the Hatboro-Horsham School District Community.

Sincerely,

Ms. Kelli Sendel

Principal Crooked Billet Elementary School

What is it? Sock Drive

When is it? The Month of October

Who can help? All Crooked Billet Families

This year our third grade classes are promoting a nationwide program called “Socktober.” This program was born from the idea that giving something as simple as a pair of socks can change someone’s day. We will collect adult socks during the month of October and donate them to the nonprofit organization Helping the Homeless. Please help by donating unused, packaged adult socks. Our third graders will visit classrooms weekly to collect all the socks and get a total count before we donate them. Every sock will help someone in need for the winter! Let’s do a great thing and help as many people as we can! The time to be awesome is now!

Dear Hatboro-Horsham School District Family:

Your child attends Blair Mill, Crooked Billet, or Hallowell Elementary School, which receives Federal

Title I funds to assist students in meeting state achievement standards. This letter serves to inform you of

your right to request information about the qualifications of the classroom staff, working with your chi ld.

At Blair Mill, Crooked Billet, and Hallowell Elementary, we believe our teachers are prepared to give your

child a high-quality education. As Title I schools, we must meet federal regulations related to teacher

qualifications as defined in ESEA. These regulations allow you to learn more about your child's teachers'

training and credentials. We are happy to provide this information to you. At any time, you may ask:

• Whether the teacher met state qualifications and certification requirements for the grade level and

subject he/she is teaching,

• Whether the teacher received an emergency or conditional certificate through which state

qualifications were waived, and

• What undergraduate or graduate degrees the teacher holds, including graduate certificates and

additional degrees, and major(s) or area(s) of concentration.

You may also ask whether your child receives help from a paraprofessional. If your child receives this

assistance, we can provide you with information about the paraprofessional's qualifications.

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) which was signed into law in December 2015 and reauthorizes the

Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1956 (ESEA) includes additional right to know requests. At

any time, parents and family members can request:

• Information on policies regarding student participation in assessments

• Information on required assessments that include o subject matter

tested,

o purpose of the test,

o source of the requirement (if applicable)

o amount of time it takes students to complete the test

o time and format of disseminating results

Our staff is committed to helping your child develop the academic knowledge and critical thinking skills

he/she needs to succeed in school and beyond. That commitment includes making sure that all of our teachers

and paraprofessionals meet applicable Pennsylvania state requirements.

If you have any questions about your child's teacher or paraprofessional, please contact:

October 2021Helping Our Children Manage Situational Anxiety:

a form of anxiety that occurs in response to a specific situation

Sometimes bad things happen in the world: severe weather, pandemics, and more. These events can make us feel like we have no control. It’s important to focus on the things we DO have control over, like…✓ How we react to uncomfortable/challenging situations✓ How we speak to and guide our children in managing their feelings during

challenging situations

Tips for helping your child manage fear of storms:✓ Talk with your child - what is it specifically they fear about the storm?✓ Give your child the opportunity to ask questions ✓ Research the science behind storms with your child – explain why storms occur✓ Remind them that most storms are not dangerous✓ Model calm behavior... For more information: (use link below)✓ Create a family storm plan... https://www.childrens.com/health-wellness/how-to-help-your-child-with-storm-anxiet

✓ Distract them with preferred activities during storm

Key points to share with your child:❖ Feeling scared or nervous is normal,

especially when startling or emergency situations occur

❖ Big emergencies are extremely rare❖ Create a “Just in case” plan at home to

keep safe in case of an emergency ❖ Remind them that there are “Just in

case” plans at school for emergencies too.

❖ Adults are at home and school to protect them

❖ The more attention a worry is given, the more it will grow (find distractions)

Helpful Strategies: If your child’s worries are getting in the way of their

learning or ability to enjoy play:❖Make a Worry BoxHave your child write down their worries, fold it up and put it in the box for later!❖ Limit Worry Time - Set a timer for 5-10 minutes for child to share about worry. When time’s up, no more talking about it until the next day’s “worry time”
