Disposition of Alrrom Uraniura Mines Diamond, Drill Core

Dear Dr. hurst:-

The disposition of the diamond drill core on the company's properties in the Blind River Area is given below:-

1 - Alf-o:-.i*s Quirke Lake Property - Twps. 150, 156, 144.

The core is stored outside in one place on the nine site not far fror.i the shaft location on claim 6&S99. A considerable amount has be-on ctxlled to save core boxes; but where culling has been done a record was kept by retaining short sections of core every five or ten feet. Also all core in the conglomerates zone has, of course, been retained insofar a? possible.

All core to date is stored outside in one spot near the lake on clai:.-.^66lc, Twp. 149. Many of the holes have been cu,lled over but a condensed core record has been kept as at Quirke.

The core for this drilling is stored at or near each drill hole collar. This includes ali drill holes situated west of the pur posed townsite area, i.e. west fro ra the eastern end of Elliot Lake.

The core is all stored in good shape at our old campsite on the north shore of Pistol,Lake.

5 - Pecors Lake Property - Tv,rps. 137, 143

All core from the drilling on the v;est side of Pecors Lake is scored at the oldcanpsite situated at the east end of the lake. Of the drilling done east of Pecors Lake over half of this core is properly stored at the same campsite. The remainder is stored in good shape at or near the drill hole collars. 'About 5'^ of the core at the campsite was destroyed and lost through tourist vandalism during the 1954 tourist season.

K LAKI-:This claim block covers the contact for a length of 7.5 miles and, with the exception of a strike length of 1.1

miles where the contact is concealed by Quirke Lake, protection down dip varies from one mile to 1.5 miles.Line culling to control geological mapping, surveying and diamond drilling totals 15.1 miles. Geological

mapping if. completed and diamond drilling totalling 13,47-! feet in 62 holes accomplished.Outcrops on this property offer the most s

area. The outcrops occur on a prominent hillsx'Ctacuiar exposure of radioactive conglomerate in the Blind River de and extend intermittently about 10,000 feet, and in rare poorer

exposures for an additional 4,000 leet. Leaching out of pyrite and uranium played a part in camouflaging the surface outcrop and etlected results in some o! the shallow driii holes.

First work consisted of blasting out 21 rock trenches, samples from which proved the presence of U:O* of commercial grade. Ma])p!ng showed that at least two and possibly four distinct radioactive horizons occurred. Later diamond drilling has shown that the best horizon lies near ihe b.ise of the prominent hill and does not outcrop bui is concealed by overburden. Drilling h:i- ;!sn shown ihe presence of an argillite horizon, 60 feet in width, which forms a sheet over the entire area drilled to dale.

The pre-Huronian re ks in this area are volcanics intruded by ^r.ii:;tes. Measuring from the cor.tact of these old rocks, a typical cross-section reveals:

(1) basal conglomerates—l foot to 10 feet wide:(2) quartzites—70 feet wide, cor.taining one conglomerate hoyi/on l foot to 6 feet wide;

(3) conglomerate—7.3 feet wide, known locally as the "Lower Conglomerate," traced in drilling for 4,600feet;

(4) quartzitcs—12 feet wide;(5) conglomerate—-12 feet wide, known locally as the "Upper Corgiomeratc," traced in drilling for 7,800

feet;(6) quartzites-—35 feet to 50 f eel wide, containing numerous narrow conglomerate beds which in places

make up 75 per cent of this horizon;(7) argillite—60 feel \vi.ie;(S) quartzites—several hundred feel wide, containing rare narrow bands of small pebble conglomerate.

Drilling lo date has proven the conglomerate lo extend for 7,800 feet. The deepest hole intersected the con glomerates 500 feet down dip from surface. Hole spacing over the entire 7,800 feet is not more than 200 feet; over a length of 1,000 feet, hole.-, were drilled at 100-ft. intervals. The horizon dips to the south at 30 degrees to 42 degrees, averaging about 37 degrees. Both ends of the structure are open and the deepest hole noted above obtained an excellent intersection.

The results are very encouraging, as shown in the following table of graJes and indicate:! tonnages for the "Upper Conglomerate" horizon:

. The tonnage in this horizon is indicated to be 6,300 tons per inclined foot.The "Lower Conglomerate" horizon has been traced for 4,600 feet in drill holes with an indicated tonnage of

2,900 ion:- p'.-r inclined foot grading O.Q-53% UsOs (.S6.2S) over an average width of 7.3'.The feasibility of :v.ir.:r:v, a zone- extending from the base of the argiliate to and including the "Upper Con

glomerate" i. as bee;; considered. Over a width of 50 feet a grade of about Q.053% UsOi (.87*63) for a length of •at least 2,000 feet is ir.viicaied.

The potential o : l iie. property as drilled to date may be expressed in three ways:(a; Orebody of 2,200 ions per vertic-.il foot grading 0.112',/c UsOs (S16.24), or(b) Orebody of 6,300 tons per vertical foot grading O.OS9'^. UsOs (S12.VOJ or(") Orebody of i l, 900 tons per vertical foot grading G.059% UaOs (58.55).Geld assays have been run on samples representing about 25 per cent of the length drilled. Results have been

encouraging but decidedly erratic, and require further verification.

AIKBOKN:: SURVEY :!n CM. 'unction with neighbouring companies, the entire area adjacent to the contact was flown, using airborne

sci;;ti!!o:ve'.er and magr.etimeter. Many radioactive anomalies were outlined, most of which cover deposits preview!;.' located by ground survey or on extensions of these. Certain anomalies in covered areas warrant further investigation.

Future PlansPlans are well under way to go underground or. the Quirke Lake property as quickly as possible, and to this

end contractors have been approached to enter bids.In con/jnction with this research is underway to determine the most economical method of treating the ore.

Discussions have been held with the H. K. P. C. of Ontario regarding power supplies and with the Ontario Department of Mines and contractors regarding a permanent road.

In addition, it is planned to continue drilling on the Quirke Lake, Pccors Lake and Elliot Lake properties throughout the winter months.

Seven drills are in operation at the present time and another machine is being added when ice conditions permit Hying in the heavy equipment. Drilling in the Pistol Lake Block will commence in early spring.

Plans have been made to survey part of the Quirke Lake Block early in 1954 with a view to obtaining patent as quickly as possible.
