of surface drainage was a bit tricky, as it is on a hillock

Academic Works:

M.Arch (Urban Design) – SPA, New Delhi (2003-2005)

Thesis: “HumanisingAccess in Inter-Modal Transit Interchange Precincts”

Aim: To create a better public realm for urban citizens in an area that is super-charged w ith activity, in a city that tends to exclude rather than include its differing denizens. The thesis takes up the

issue of disability as a social phenomenon and sees how sensitive designing at an urban level can probably change societal attitudes and ultimately create a better, more accessible place for

everybody.

Research Objectives: To study the Social Model of Disability and its effect on Urban Design; To study how access, wayfinding and cognition, that is important to place-making, is dependant on various levels of sensory perceptions of special user-groups; To study the concept of Universal Design and Inclusive Environment in the Indian context; To evolve a set of guidelines for design and

development of such areas

Demonstration Area: Hazrat Nizamuddin Railw ay Station & Sarai Kale Khan ISBT in the East Nizamuddin, Sarai Kale Khan Area, New Delhi

Studio Projects

1. Urban Renewal of DIZ Area, New Delhi (3rd Semester; Aug-Dec 2004)

of structure plans (in pairs) that attempted to reinstate the importance of this character district at the city level, especially w ith CP being in such proximity, and the coming of Metro. The Semester

culminated in detailed design demonstrations at the individual level. The Gol Market area w as handled individually for this purpose.

Urban Design Tools used: Infill Development, Redensif ication, Redevelopment, Conservative Surgery, Restructuring, Revitalisation, Development Injection

2. Greenfield Development at Betim, Near Panaji, Goa (2nd Semester; Jan-May 2004)

Goa w as chosen for greenfield development in an ecologically sensitive and highly popular tourist state. Panjim / Panaji and Goa state, w ere analytically studied including upcoming development

schemes, planning, history, morphology, infrastructure, socio-cultural patterns, its architecture, and so on. Structure Plans of three different areas near Panjim, w ere drawn out in a group.

Ultimately detailed design demonstrations at the individual level w ere undertaken. Betimw as chosen as an active riverfront fronting Panjimand a candidate for the Goa International Film Festival.

Work done: Site Analysis and Site Planning, Project Programming, Infrastructure Planning, Structure Plans, Detail designing
