I am constantly in and out of classrooms and I must say how brilliant it is that our students are really taking not only responsibility for their own behaviour but also for their learning. At this school we have always collected data on students to both inform our teaching and to be able to give reliable and valuable feedback back to our students and to you as parents. We have been putting greater emphasis on ensuring that students have an understanding of their own data and recognize that they can take greater responsibility for their learning and their successes. This is why we use Learning Walls in every classroom. For our teachers who are expected to ensure that they are catering for all the different students in their classrooms there are questions I ask of them when I go into planning meetings and classrooms and that I expect them to be asking of themselves. How are all students engaged and improving in their learning? How do we know? What adjustments are we making to ensure every student is improving in their learning? How do we know what is working? In our Annual Operation Plan which we plan collaboratively as a staff to ensure that we have clear guidelines for the year we have clear strategies to enable us to achieve our goals for the year. To achieve our goal of inclusion which incorporates effective differentiation these are our agreed upon strategies: ‘Provide time and support for teachers to ensure differentiated teaching and learning processes that address the diverse needs of all learners, including high achieving students are being implemented. Monitor the use of these Teaching and Learning processes across the school. Ensure all teachers have an understanding of the necessity and importance of relevant documentation to show evidence of differentiation strategies for individual and groups of students in their planning.’ Ingham State School AIP 2021 We seem to be accumulating hats and lunchboxes and articles of clothing at the office. Children leave things in the eating areas, at drop off areas and sometimes the hall. These are expensive items that parents have to then replace. We attempt to teach children to take responsibility for their things but it is vital that their things can be identified so that it is not costing you all the time and that there are no fights as to whose hat it is because it has a white spot on it or a small thread coming undone. Please make sure your child’s name is on their belongings even if they are in Grade 6. It may not be ‘cool’ but it ensures your children’s property will be easily identifiable. GENERAL MEETING

Monday15th March 2021

Time – 6:30pm

Venue: Staff Room

Everyone welcome!

Tea and coffee available.

Last week I wrote about the questions we ask of children to ensure we understand how they are travelling and to give us knowledge about where to next.

• How are all students engaged and improving in their learning?• How do we know?• What adjustments are we making to ensure every student is improving in their

learning?• How do we know what is working?

In our Annual Operation Plan which we plan collaboratively as a staff to ensure that we have clear guidelines for the year we have clear strategies to enable us to achieve our goals for the year. To achieve our goal of inclusion which incorporates effective differentiation these are our agreed upon strategies:

‘Provide time and support for teachers to ensure differentiated teaching and learning processes that address the diverse needs of all learners, including high achieving students are being implemented.

Strings

Year 3 String Books for 2021The Year 3 string students will need to purchase a copy of String Basics Book 1 for their instrument (violin, viola, cello). I will let parents know when the String Basics books are ready for purchase at the office. The children will also need a display folder with plastic pockets for loose sheets they are given during the term.

String Ensemble

All String students in Year 4, 5 & 6 will be in the string ensemble as part of the instrumental music program. We will rehearse each Friday morning from 8 am in the Activities Hall. It was great to see most of our Year 4’s there for the first time last week and we hope to see all our Year 5 and 6 children at rehearsal as well this week. If children come to school by bus, they can still attend rehearsals as soon as they arrive at school. Please contact me at [email protected] if you have any further questions.

Kind Regards,Lynda Wright

Instrumental Music

Woodwind / Brass / Percussion

Thank you to all of the Year 5 and Year 6 Instrumental Music Students who arrived on time for our band rehearsal last week. It was wonderful to hear the students performing as a large group, and observe the students learning to listen to each other and play their instruments together. Please remember that band rehearsals are on Thursday morning, commencing at 8:00am, and will be held up in the Activities Hall. Only Year 5 and Year 6 students will be attending band rehearsals at this point in time. Students are reminded that they will need to bring their music book and an A4 display folder to lessons and band rehearsals, to hold extra music sheets that are used.

Kind regardsMrs Gunston

We are waiting on a couple of school instruments to be sent to Ingham after their clean and service in Townsville – I am hoping that they will be here by Thursday, so the Year 4 students will be able to take their instruments home. The music books that the Year 4 students will be using have been ordered, and when they arrive at school, students will receive further information regarding the purchasing of these books from the Office. All Year 4 instrumental students will also need to bring an A4 display folder to their lessons each week.

If you have any questions regarding the Instrumental Music program, please contact Mrs Gunston.

Year 4 NewsYear 4KN and 4YC have been busy so far this term.

We would like to showcase some of the amazing work they have been completing in class.

For English students have studied language features that authors like Roald Dahl use to make a narrative entertaining to read and are at the beginning stages of writing an additional chapter using what they have learnt.

Mathematics students have been learning about place value and standard partitioning. They have also been given the guided inquiry question of coming up with a container to hold 10,000 linking cube blocks.

In Science students are really enjoying studying the different types of soils and rocks (Sedimentary, igneous, metamorphic). With the current flooding of our district, students have been given the task of looking around their local area and finding real life examples of erosion and weathering caused by natural events.

Ingham State School Hamilton Sunscreen Fundraiser

Hello ISS families As you might have already seen in our newsletter, P&C are supporting UV & Sun Safe behaviours throughout our school and community by holding a Sunscreen Fundraiser! Why fundraise with sunscreen? Despite it being preventable, Australia has the highest incidence of skin cancer in the world and the more sun exposure during childhood, the greater the risk of skin cancer in later life. With 2 in 3 Australians likely to be diagnosed with skin cancer by the age of 70, it is important we engage with our students and community to help ensure everyone wears sunscreen to help reduce the risks associated with skin damage. What are we selling? Hamilton Active Family SPF50+ sunscreen in 125ml and 250ml and Blistex Happy Lips SPF15 lip balm. Why Hamilton Sunscreen?

Hamilton sunscreens offer very high SPF50+ protection against damaging UV rays, meaning optimal sun protection.

All Hamilton sunscreens offer broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection and utilise the brand’s ‘dry-touch technology’ to feel comfortable on the skin.

All Hamilton sunscreens are free of Oxybenzone, Zinc Oxide and Palm Oil meaning they’re good for your skin and the environment.

Hamilton sunscreens have been developed and manufactured in Australia for over 80 years.

Often recommended by doctors How does our fundraiser work?

Collect orders from your family, friends, and neighbours!

Tell them that we are fundraising with a purpose – to help create positive behaviours for UV sun safety!

Fill out the attached form with the customer’s name and contact details, what they would like to order and collect their payment in cash.

If you are a Qkr! user you can order and pay via the app. When are orders due?

Cut off for return of orders and money is Friday 26th March 2021.

Please return forms and money to the school office. When will we receive our orders? The products will be ready for you to distribute to your supporters in week 1, term 2. What might we use the proceeds towards? The P&C has a few projects in mind, including new seating in eating area, new water coolers and more undercover area at the drop-off/pick-up zone. What if I have questions? Please email [email protected] with any questions you may have, or a contact number and preferred time if you need to speak to someone.
