At Whole School Assembly on Monday, students were given a very clear message of how they can be awarded Gotcha points as a reward for upholding the school rules of Be safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible and exhibiting good behaviour, wearing the school uniform correctly, following instructions, being kind to others and attending school every day. Issue 24

26th August 2020

I have been advised that Marianne Macdonald will be returning as Principal of Ingham State School in Term 4 and I will return to my substantive position as Deputy Principal at Ingham State High School.

Whilst 2020 has been a very challenging and demanding year it has been a very rewarding experience for myself both professionally and personally. I am very proud of what we have achieved so far this year and acknowledge the support I have received from parents and staff as it is obvious we are working towards a common goal of providing the students of Ingham State School with a quality education in a friendly and supportive environment.

Page 2: Date Claimers: Welcome Message - Ingham State School€¦ · We have contacted rophy [sParty Entertainment Service to support us in this endeavour. They have a strict COVID Safe Plan

This term, The Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) Team, have planned an end of term celebration to reward the students for their consistent and ongoing good behaviour choices throughout the term.

On Thursday 17th September, Ingham State School will be hosting their very own Show!

We have contacted Brophy’s Party Entertainment Service to support us in this endeavour. They have a strict COVID Safe Plan that ensures we continue to uphold our department protocols as health and safety of our staff, students and school community remains paramount. Details on rides and entertainment are still being finalised, but please keep an eye on the newsletter and Facebook for further information there.

Because this is an event with a behaviour focus, entry to the Show is dependent on students upholding the ethos of the school – Good Citizens and following our school wide behaviour expectations of Be Safe, Be Responsible and Be Respectful. To enable all students a fair chance to participate, we have a 10 Chance system, which provides an equitable opportunity for all students to demonstrate good behaviour.

Any student who consistently shows disregard for the School’s Code of Conduct - Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible – will lose a chance. If a student loses all 10 chances, they will be unable to attend the Show.

Our aim is to foster Good Citizens at Ingham State School by reinforcing and rewarding positive behaviour.

All ride expenses will be covered by the school, however students will earn Gotchas to determine the amount of rides that they can have. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in side show activities organised and supervised by the teachers. There will be a special ‘Show’ tuckshop menu available for students to purchase and as well as the opportunity to purchase Show Bags and fairy floss as part of fundraising activities for the school

Performing ArtsInstrumental Music

Lesson Days

Woodwind/Brass with Mrs Gunston – Thursday Strings with Mrs Wright – Wednesday afternoon (Year 4’s) and Friday

Important Notice

Due to the Athletics Day next Thursday 3 September, there will be no ensemble rehearsal or music lessons for our Woodwind / Brass instrumental students. Students are asked to leave their instrumental at home for that day.

Over the past few weeks, it has been wonderful to hear students improve on their instrument, as they have been practicing at home to prepare their music for their upcoming assessments. Thank you so much to those families who have been encouraging students to continue to do regular practice at home – both Mrs Wright and Mrs Gunston are very proud of the students and the progress that has been made! As mentioned last week, it would be greatly appreciated if families could encourage their child to perform their assessment pieces in front of others at home. This will help to build confidence in students for when they need to perform in front of other people (which can be a scary thing!). If any students are having concerns with pieces of music, please let Mrs Wright or Mrs Gunston know as soon as possible.

Music Stands

Our school is still in desperate need of music stands for our ensemble rehearsals! If any families have any music stands at home that they no longer need, it would be greatly appreciated if you would be willing to donate them to the school! Music stands can be either dropped off at the office, or to Mrs Gunston in the Music room.

Italian is on the menu!Cooking up a storm in the classroom!

Using the information found on a number of menus and recipes, students are learning new Italian words and discovering the connection between languages.

Etymology:Menu can be traced back to the Latin word minūtus, meaning small in size, and also possessing or involving minute knowledge.

Discovering the etymology of culinary words and creating their very own menu is also providing a journey across cultures.

Table etiquette and unheard of ingredients are spicing up the Italian lessons.

At the end of Term 3, students will take home a ‘Recipe Bag’ with some simple recipes.
