Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Aug 3: Police today foiled the murder bid by arresting four notorious gangsters including a Sarpanch along with weapons from the Channi Himmat area. Giving details, a police spokesman said that yesterday it was reliably learnt that four dread- ed criminals having 'Desi' pistol and sharp edged weapons were roaming in a car in Sainik Colony area in search of a youth to elimi- nate him on the basis of old enmity. Police teams headed by SS Sambyal, SDPO East, SHO Police Station Channi Himmat Inspector Gurman Singh, SHO Police Station Trikuta Nagar Inspector Chanchal Singh and incharge police post Sainik Colony Sumit Sharma under the supervision of SSP Jammu Atul Goel and SP South Rajeshwar Singh fanned in different locations of Sainik Colony and started checking of vehicles, he added. Police party intercepted the vehicle near Babber chowk, Sainik Colony. However, on seeing the police party the persons sitting in the car tried to run away but were captured by the alert police parties. The notorious gangsters were identified as Sarpanch of Prthipur Bishnah Ranjeet Singh alias Lugga, son of Karan Singh, Mithun Verma alias Deepu, son of Dev Raj Verma of Phinder, RS Pura, Narinder Singh alias Vikku, son of Pritam Singh of Deoli and Joginder Singh, son of Prabhu Singh of Deoli, Bishnah. During checking, police recov- ered desi pistol, one charra pistol, three sharp edged weapons (tokas) and one baseball rod from their possession. During questioning, the accused revealed that they had an enmity with a youth of Sainik Colony and they planned to elimi- nate him, police spokesmen said, adding that all the accused are hav- ing cases registered against them at different police stations. A case under FIR number 72/13 under Section 3/25, 4/25 Arms Act and 34 RPC has been registered at Channi Himmat Police Station and further investi- gation is going on. Excelsior Correspondent RAJOURI, Aug 3: Nearly 160 Shri Buddha Amarnathji pilgrims held protest demon- stration in the main market here here after they were stopped by police and not allowed to move ahead for Poonch-Mandi due to security reasons from Rajouri onwards. The second batch of pil- grims reached Rajouri town at around 6 pm today. The police contingent reached the Yatra Ground near Dairy Farm and asked the pilgrims to take halt at Rajouri tonight as they had directions from the IGP Jammu not to allow them further due to security reasons. They said that yatra should cross Rajouri before 5 pm and if it is delayed, then pilgrims have to take night halt at Rajouri. The yatris had some heated arguments with the police and then they started protest demonstration against the police. However, after being convinced by the senior officers in the District Administration Rajouri they suspended protest and then they were accommo- dated at SD Sabha Bhawan, local Gurudwara and other tem- ples in the town. They will leave tomorrow morning for Shri Buddha Amarnathji at Mandi in Poonch. Meanwhile, the first batch of yatris today had darshan at Buddha Amarnathji shrine at Mandi. A senior officer told the Excelsior that nearly 1200 pil- grims including those from J&K and outside, performed dharshan today. The second batch comprising of 162 pil- grims will have `darshan’ tomorrow. The Administration has made elaborate security related and other arrangements for the smooth conduct of yatra. Addressing an impressive public meeting at Anantnag in connection with the foundation day function of the party, Mufti said that with the strength of just 16 MLAs in 2002, PDP had changed political discourse of the State and restored dignity and honour of the people. "It was result of our convic- tions that successive Governments at New Delhi had supported whatever steps we had taken during our tenure", he said and reminded that the previous NDA regime headed by Atal Behari Vajpayee and present UPA Government headed by Dr Manmohan Singh had endorsed PDP's view point on Kashmir. He further said that his party has pioneered a political and eco- nomic agenda to establish sus- tainable peace in the subcontinent and to fulfil wishes and aspira- tions of all regions and sub- regions of the State "Our party, through its pro-peace policies, had consolidated reconciliation process and facilitated the efforts of establishing lasting peace in this region", he said. He mentioned that PDP had entered into alliance with Congress by formulating a Common Minimum Programme (CMP) in which wishes of all people were incorporated and pro-peace agenda was given first priority. He said that unlike other parties, PDP has never compro- mised with its agenda for enjoy- ing power. Quoting CMP which was for- mulated after PDP-Congress Coalition Government in the State in 2002, Mufti said that almost all objectives of PDP including release of all political prisoners, disbanding of Special Task Force, initiating uncondi- tional dialogue with all sections of the society, restore dignity and honour of people were incorpo- rated in the CMP. Seeking support of the people to make Jammu and Kashmir as destination of peace, Mufti said that with the mandate of the peo- ple PDP would take its pro-peace agenda to the logical conclusion. He said that PDP's roadmap has potential to solve problems of unemployed youth because this roadmap was prepared by incor- porating aspirations of all sec- tions of the society. PDP patron Mufti Mohd Sayeed addressing public rally at Anantnag on Saturday. -Excelsior/ Sajad Sameer Rana expresses concern over recurrence of tremors, seeks release of package Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Aug 3: Expressing concern over recurrence of earthquake in the Doda- Kishtwar belt, Provincial President of National Conference Devender Singh Rana has made a fervent appeal to the Centre for expeditious sanction of the relief package for the tremor victims duly recom- mended by Chief Minister led Omar Abdullah Government nearly two months ago. "The area has been rattled by a series of tremors in the recent months and the two districts have suffered immense dam- ages", he said in a statement and called for release of relief for renovating damaged houses ahead of winter months. Saying that the Chief Minister has been vociferously pursuing the issue with the Centre, more particularly the Prime Minister, Mr Rana expressed the hope for early release of funds as recommended by the State Cabinet. He made a fervent appeal to all the political parties to rise above party lines and plead the genuine cause of the victims before the Centre. The Provincial President also referred to the tremor jolts felt in twin districts yesterday and this morning and called for initiating necessary measures, in consulta- tion with the experts, for taking preventive measures to save public life and property in the event of natural calamity. Mr Rana urged the district administration to take all neces- sary steps for instilling a sense of confidence among the tremor- scared population. He also called for putting in place the disaster management mecha- nism to meet any eventuality. He also stressed the need for quelling the rumours which are unfortunately being floated by mischief mongers to create panic among the masses. The Divisional Commis- sioner and promised that he will do his best to address the issues raised and other allied issues which have been discussed to make Jammu city better and attractive. 2042 pilgrims perform darshan at Amarnath Ji Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Aug 3: As pil- grimage to holy cave shrine of Amarnath Ji in South Kashmir Himalayas of Anantnag dis- trict entered into 37th day, as many as 2042 pilgrims per- formed darshan at the shrine today. A total of 3.45 lakh pil- grims have paid obeisance to Lord Shiva during this year's annual pilgrimage so far. The 55-days long yatra would con- clude on August 21 coinciding with Sharavan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan. The pilgrimage was going on smoothly as a new batch of 1344 yatris, including women and Sadhus left Baltal and Nunwan, Pahalgam base camps for the holy cave this morning. The weather was pleasant and the yatra was continuing smoothly, official sources said. They said 622 pilgrims left Baltal base camp early this morning for the holy cave. Similarly, 722 pilgrims including Sadhus and women left Nunwan, Pahalgam base camp for the cave shrine early this morning. The pilgrims, who had night halt at Chandanwari and other halting stations on the traditional route, also started their foot journey towards the shrine this morning. Meanwhile, a small batch of 204 pilgrims left the Jammu base camp today for the holy cave shrine of Amarnath Ji. A convoy of six vehicles carrying the 38th batch of 204 devotees left the Yatri Niwas at Bhagwati Nagar around 5 am to pay obeisance at the holy shrine, sources said. The batch comprised 115 men, 15 women and 74 Sadhus. They reached the twin base camps of Pahalgam and Baltal tonight, sources added.
