foiled the murder bid by arrestingfour notorious gangsters includinga Sarpanch along with weaponsfrom the Channi Himmat area.
Giving details, a policespokesman said that yesterday itwas reliably learnt that four dread-ed criminals having 'Desi' pistoland sharp edged weapons wereroaming in a car in Sainik Colonyarea in search of a youth to elimi-nate him on the basis of old enmity.
Police teams headed by SSSambyal, SDPO East, SHO PoliceStation Channi Himmat InspectorGurman Singh, SHO PoliceStation Trikuta Nagar InspectorChanchal Singh and inchargepolice post Sainik Colony SumitSharma under the supervision ofSSP Jammu Atul Goel and SPSouth Rajeshwar Singh fanned indifferent locations of SainikColony and started checking ofvehicles, he added.
Police party intercepted thevehicle near Babber chowk, SainikColony. However, on seeing thepolice party the persons sitting inthe car tried to run away but werecaptured by the alert police parties.
The notorious gangsters wereidentified as Sarpanch of PrthipurBishnah Ranjeet Singh aliasLugga, son of Karan Singh,Mithun Verma alias Deepu, son of
Dev Raj Verma of Phinder, RSPura, Narinder Singh alias Vikku,son of Pritam Singh of Deoli andJoginder Singh, son of PrabhuSingh of Deoli, Bishnah.
During checking, police recov-ered desi pistol, one charra pistol,three sharp edged weapons (tokas)and one baseball rod from theirpossession.
During questioning, theaccused revealed that they had an
enmity with a youth of SainikColony and they planned to elimi-nate him, police spokesmen said,adding that all the accused are hav-ing cases registered against themat different police stations.
A case under FIR number72/13 under Section 3/25, 4/25Arms Act and 34 RPC has beenregistered at Channi HimmatPolice Station and further investi-gation is going on.

160 Shri Buddha Amarnathjipilgrims held protest demon-stration in the main market herehere after they were stopped bypolice and not allowed to moveahead for Poonch-Mandi due tosecurity reasons from Rajourionwards.
The second batch of pil-grims reached Rajouri town ataround 6 pm today. The policecontingent reached the YatraGround near Dairy Farm andasked the pilgrims to take haltat Rajouri tonight as they haddirections from the IGP Jammu
not to allow them further due tosecurity reasons. They said thatyatra should cross Rajouribefore 5 pm and if it is delayed,then pilgrims have to take nighthalt at Rajouri.
The yatris had some heatedarguments with the police andthen they started protestdemonstration against thepolice. However, after beingconvinced by the senior officersin the District AdministrationRajouri they suspended protestand then they were accommo-dated at SD Sabha Bhawan,local Gurudwara and other tem-ples in the town. They will
leave tomorrow morning forShri Buddha Amarnathji atMandi in Poonch.
Meanwhile, the first batchof yatris today had darshan atBuddha Amarnathji shrine atMandi. A senior officer told theExcelsior that nearly 1200 pil-grims including those fromJ&K and outside, performeddharshan today. The secondbatch comprising of 162 pil-grims will have `darshan’tomorrow. The Administrationhas made elaborate securityrelated and other arrangementsfor the smooth conduct ofyatra.

SRINAGAR, Aug 3: TermingPeople's Democratic Party's(PDP's) road-map as a key toaddress political and socio-eco-nomic aspirations of the people ofJammu and Kashmir, patron of
PDP Mufti Mohammad Sayeedtoday said that the tested andcompetent leadership of his partyhas capability to change destinyof the common masses by imple-menting revolutionary policiesand programmes.
Addressing an impressivepublic meeting at Anantnag inconnection with the foundationday function of the party, Muftisaid that with the strength of just16 MLAs in 2002, PDP hadchanged political discourse of theState and restored dignity andhonour of the people.
"It was result of our convic-tions that successiveGovernments at New Delhi hadsupported whatever steps we hadtaken during our tenure", he saidand reminded that the previousNDA regime headed by AtalBehari Vajpayee and present UPAGovernment headed by DrManmohan Singh had endorsedPDP's view point on Kashmir.
He further said that his partyhas pioneered a political and eco-nomic agenda to establish sus-tainable peace in the subcontinentand to fulfil wishes and aspira-tions of all regions and sub-regions of the State "Our party,through its pro-peace policies,had consolidated reconciliationprocess and facilitated the efforts
of establishing lasting peace inthis region", he said.
He mentioned that PDP hadentered into alliance withCongress by formulating aCommon Minimum Programme(CMP) in which wishes of all
people were incorporated andpro-peace agenda was given firstpriority. He said that unlike otherparties, PDP has never compro-mised with its agenda for enjoy-ing power.
Quoting CMP which was for-mulated after PDP-CongressCoalition Government in theState in 2002, Mufti said thatalmost all objectives of PDPincluding release of all politicalprisoners, disbanding of SpecialTask Force, initiating uncondi-tional dialogue with all sectionsof the society, restore dignity andhonour of people were incorpo-rated in the CMP.

to make Jammu and Kashmir asdestination of peace, Mufti saidthat with the mandate of the peo-ple PDP would take its pro-peaceagenda to the logical conclusion.He said that PDP's roadmap haspotential to solve problems of
unemployed youth because thisroadmap was prepared by incor-porating aspirations of all sec-tions of the society. PDP patronalso promised to establish a full-fledged university, opening ofmedical college and constructionof fly-overs at Anantnag.

Rana expresses concern over recurrenceof tremors, seeks release of package

JAMMU, Aug 3: Expressingconcern over recurrence ofearthquake in the Doda-Kishtwar belt, ProvincialPresident of NationalConference Devender SinghRana has made a fervent appealto the Centre for expeditioussanction of the relief package forthe tremor victims duly recom-mended by Chief Minister ledOmar Abdullah Governmentnearly two months ago.
"The area has been rattled bya series of tremors in the recentmonths and the two districtshave suffered immense dam-ages", he said in a statement andcalled for release of relief forrenovating damaged housesahead of winter months.
Saying that the ChiefMinister has been vociferouslypursuing the issue with theCentre, more particularly thePrime Minister, Mr Ranaexpressed the hope for earlyrelease of funds as recommendedby the State Cabinet. He made afervent appeal to all the politicalparties to rise above party linesand plead the genuine cause of
the victims before the Centre.The Provincial President also
referred to the tremor jolts felt intwin districts yesterday and thismorning and called for initiatingnecessary measures, in consulta-tion with the experts, for takingpreventive measures to savepublic life and property in theevent of natural calamity.
Mr Rana urged the districtadministration to take all neces-sary steps for instilling a senseof confidence among the tremor-scared population. He alsocalled for putting in place thedisaster management mecha-nism to meet any eventuality. Healso stressed the need forquelling the rumours which areunfortunately being floated bymischief mongers to createpanic among the masses.
"In view the damagescaused, and keeping in mind thefinancial constraints of the StateGovernment, the UnionGovernment must immediatelyannounce a Leh pattern aid tothe affected people", he said,adding that the central assistancehas assumed added significancein view of recurrence of tremors.

2042 pilgrims performdarshan at Amarnath Ji

JAMMU, Aug 3: As pil-grimage to holy cave shrine ofAmarnath Ji in South KashmirHimalayas of Anantnag dis-trict entered into 37th day, asmany as 2042 pilgrims per-formed darshan at the shrinetoday.
A total of 3.45 lakh pil-grims have paid obeisance toLord Shiva during this year'sannual pilgrimage so far. The55-days long yatra would con-clude on August 21 coincidingwith Sharavan Purnima andRaksha Bandhan.
The pilgrimage was goingon smoothly as a new batch of1344 yatris, including womenand Sadhus left Baltal andNunwan, Pahalgam basecamps for the holy cave thismorning.
The weather was pleasantand the yatra was continuingsmoothly, official sourcessaid.
They said 622 pilgrims leftBaltal base camp early thismorning for the holy cave.
Similarly, 722 pilgrimsincluding Sadhus and womenleft Nunwan, Pahalgam basecamp for the cave shrine earlythis morning.
The pilgrims, who hadnight halt at Chandanwari andother halting stations on thetraditional route, also startedtheir foot journey towards theshrine this morning.
Meanwhile, a small batchof 204 pilgrims left the Jammubase camp today for the holycave shrine of Amarnath Ji.
A convoy of six vehiclescarrying the 38th batch of 204devotees left the Yatri Niwasat Bhagwati Nagar around 5am to pay obeisance at theholy shrine, sources said.
The batch comprised 115men, 15 women and 74Sadhus. They reached the twinbase camps of Pahalgam andBaltal tonight, sources added.
