Please bring proof of residence and identification with you. Voting will be at the Souhegan High School from 6:00 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fan Appreciation Night Rescheduled for Souhegan Girls Basketball On Saturday, February 19 the Souhegan High School Girls Basketball team will be hosting a Fan Appreciation Night. Each person who attends the game will be given a chance to win one of many prizes to be raffled off that night. Top prize is a 2 night stay for four at Kelly’s Landing (Moosehead Lake)! Other prizes include a $50 Sports Author- ity gift cards, NH Fisher Cat tickets, Silpada jew- elry, Toadstool and Panera Bread gift cards, Mike’s Auto gift basket and many, many other fun prizes! Mr. Hahn is a current member of the AFD and will present on topics such as past AFD mem- bers, development of fire-fighting apparatus in Amherst, fire reservoir management, and past engine houses. Musi- cians David Newsam, John Mason, and Sharon Wayne comprise the trio. David Newsam currently works as an assistant pro- fessor in the Guitar Depart- ment at Berklee College of Music where he has taught since 1989. He is also em- ployed as a senior lecturer in music at Dartmouth Col- lege where he teaches guitar and jazz improvisation. Da- vid created the jazz guitar program at the University of New Hampshire where he teaches, directs the UNH Jazz Guitar Ensemble and coaches jazz ensembles. He has performed in concerts and clinics with many noted musicians. What would parents or friends do if the person they are driving to the hospital takes a turn for the worse and convulses, vomits blood or passes out? Without medical training, and lim- ited to two hands, they can only drive faster and pray they reach help in time. Sharon provides county education- al programs to individuals, families, and communities in family resource manage- ment, parenting, and hu- man development. e Pupil Safety and Vi- olence Prevention Act, NH Statute 193-F was amended during the 2010 NH Legisla- tive session. School Districts have specific policy and procedural requirements as a result of this amendment. e districts within SAU #39 are actively working to- ward fulfilling the legisla- ture’s affirmation relative to “protecting children from physical, emotional, and psychological violence by addressing the harm caused by bullying and cyberbully- ing in our public schools.” (RSA 193-F:2, 1). roughout the 2010- 2011 school year, each school within SAU #39 has scheduled the required de- velopmentally appropriate, evidence based educational programming to their stu- dents. SAU #39 believes that all students have the right to at- tend public schools that are safe, secure and respectful environments. Each school board has adopted a policy that not only prohibits bul- lying, but also provides for ongoing prevention and in- tervention activities in or- der to protect students. Spelling Bee Winner at Wilkins School AMHERST – e 2011 Spelling Bee winner at Wilkins School is 4th grader Nicki Hitt who is also this year’s winner of the National Geo- graphic Geography Bee. Coming in as runner- up was Seth Facey. e contest started with 14 finalists on stage: Max Karparwich, Alana Hoskins, Nicki Hitt, Margot Redway, Hannah Schmidt, Ben Laflamme, Khaled Nazeer, El- eanor Farris, Abby Kirk, Steven Pariselli, Seth Facey(runner-up), Sloan Facques, Devon Her- nandez and Miranda Lau Quan. Reading specialist, Becky Flynn was the an- nouncer. Judges were Katy Kennedy, literacy coach and Joanna Bacon, grade 4 teacher. “Cre- puscular” was the word that determined the winner. Their program includes a variety of music from around the world.
