Curriculum Review Aims
- Is the content of the Curriculum fit for purpose?
- Is the structure of the school day appropriate?
Is the content of the Curriculum fit for purpose?» Fundamentally it is- Why?- Raiseonline & ALPS show significant and sustained
progress made by most ‘groups’- An academically based Curriculum is a Core Value- Gordon’s Teachers’ skills sets- E Bacc. has arrived - Labour proposed a Tech. Bacc. to complement E Bacc.
Is the content of the Curriculum fit for purpose?» Any concerns?- Should we consider ‘Learning to Learn’? - 3 weeks shorter (75 hrs) than most state schools- Sixth Form have 4 hours per subject per week- Students are sometimes withdrawn from lessons- Science in Yr 11 have 5 lessons/ week and need 6- MFL in Yr 10 have 2 lessons/ week and arguably
need 3- No ICT in Year 9 & No GCSE/ A Level ICT/
Computing
Is the structure of the school day appropriate?» Is it as effective as it could be?- Morning registration = 40 minutes- Afternoon registration = 10 minutes » Proposal- Morning registration = 20 minutes- Afternoon registration = 5 minutes - Lunch = 1 hour including pm registration- Saving 30 minutes per day meaning 6 x 55 min. lessons per day is feasible

Sixth Form increase from 4 lessons/ week (240 mins) to 5 lessons/ week (275 mins)
6 x 55 minute school dayConcerns» More individual teaching time and lessons/week (significant reduction in non teaching contact time)» Morning registration SEN support impacted (D. Head Curriculum to continue to seek a solution)» KS 3 student voice concerned about tiredness (School day is the same length. No more prep!)» Increased time in between break and lunchtime (Mrs. Lewis looking at appropriate sustenance)
6 x 55 minute school dayPositives» Curriculum concerns largely solved» More time to deliver subjects» More time for students to learn subjects» School day unchanged ie 8.20am to 3.30pm» Afternoon registration taken in houses or period 5» Potentially increased CPD time up to 1 lesson per week» Continue to avoid Saturday school» Current Year 10 tutor group reps. unanimously in favour
