Our Story

• Our story begins in 1875 when Vito Curatolo Arini decides to

build a winery at the centre of his vineyards in Marsala: Each

generation has added a new chapter to the Curatolo Arini story

by continuing this proud tradition of winemaking. We are the

oldest family owned Marsala producer in Sicily.

• Vito was an innovator with modern sensibilities. And he had

grand plans. He wanted to focus on producing quality wines and

developing new, overseas markets. And he was prepared to do

things differently, with an early realization of the importance of

eye catching packaging.

Our Story

• Production of still wines begun in the 70s, thanks to important

international joint ventures.

• In the ’90s, through the collaboration with prestigious winemakers the

Curatolo’s created a new style of monovarietal wine, made only of

Sicilian grape varieties which express the unique character and

flavours of the Sicilian terroir

• Today, after 5 generations Vito’s dream is kept alive by his grandson

and great-grandchildren. It is our legacy. Each of us has a deep

respect for those who have worked the vines before us

The Coralto Range

Coralto is a 100% single varietal range made using local Sicilian grapes, they are well priced modern fruit-filled tasting wines that express the best from our local Sicilian terroir.

•Grillo shows aromas of tropical fruits and citrus leading to a wine that is full, round and fresh on the palate. Perfect with oily fish dishes like mackerel, swordfish or tuna, with spicy Asian dishes or just a bowl of lovely Italian olives.

• Inzolia shows aromas of citrus and melon producing a wine that has lively acidity, slight nuttiness on the palate but is long and fresh. Perfect as an aperitif, with shellfish platters or light pasta dishes.

•Nero d’Avola shows aromas of plums and cherries with some spice; this wine is full and round on the palate with a long finish. Perfect with grilled lamb, steak, a vegetarian risotto or even meaty fish dishes.

The Curatolo Arini Range

• Our Curatolo Arini single vineyard wines are made from select sites and reflect the characteristics of their individual terroir and sites.

• Nero d’Avola is grown in the Caltanisetta province in centralSicily. This wine has an intense aroma of blackberries and dried plums with hints of chocolate. The palate is concentrated and complex with rich flavours and a long spicy finish. Perfect with lamb or beef, a nice stew or selection of cheese.

• Zibibbo is grown on a vineyard located in Western Sicily, near Camporeale, just east of Marsala at about 350 metres. This wine displays elegant perfumes of a Mediterranean garden – citrus fruit, orange blossom, sage, mint, white rose and acacia. The wine expresses the richness of the terroir and the elegance of the variety. Perfect with all fish dishes but in particular with oysters and smoked fish

Still wine making philosophy

To produce wines that are modern and fruit forward, with strong regional expression.

A low yield is the cornerstone of our vineyard philosophy and we have taken measures over the last few years to reduce our production per hectare especially for our single vineyard wines.

Traditional winemaking is combined with some modern techniques to produce wines of elegance and balance. Constant research is undertaken regularly by the winemaking team, into new methods and technical advancements to keep our wines clean, varietal and expressive. International winemaking consultant Alberto Antonini is engaged in working together with the Curatolo’s .

The Marsala Range:

In production since 1875, making this the oldest family owned Marsalaproducing business in continuous family ownership

•Label designed in late 1800s by Palermo architect Ernesto Basile, the father of the Sicilian ‘Liberty style’ or Art Nouveau.

•Grapes: Grillo is the key variety used. It is lower yielding, has high sugar content, low acidity and a propensity to natural oxidation, giving natural base wines of 15-16% alcohol.

•Use of good quality wine acquavitae (grape alcohol) to reach the required alcoholic gradation

•Addition of Mosto Cotto (cooked must) made from DOC wines which has been heated over a direct fire for 36 h produces colour and sweetness

•Addition of Mistella or Sifone made from fresh DOC must with added wine acquavitae to stop fermentation, adds complex aromas, balance and the required alcohol and sugar content.

•Extensive ageing in large Slovenian oak casks
