Flying Start We had our 12

th Flying Start session of the year on Monday

morning. The year seems to be ‘flying’ by. Students seem very comfortable in the school environment, with some even beginning the morning outside with all the other big kids before going into the Kindergarten room when the bell rings. This week we spoke about imaginations and read the story ‘Hunting for Dragons’, which prompted discussions about whether the child in the story actually saw dragons. The highlight of the morning was making our own miniature dragons from modelling clay. We were unable to go outside as we had another beautiful snow shower. We look forward to seeing you all again next Monday morning from 9.30am.

Dorothy Lindner chose to play some alphabet games on the

iPads during the session.

Carter Langdon loves using the modelling clay.

Miss O’Neill’s miniature dragon.

Kelsey Ann Pearson is attaching her dragon’s head to its

round body.

Billi Kelly was excited to create her dragon.

Jack Bilsborough is impressed with his dragon’s huge wings.

Students enjoyed playing soccer, kicking and passing drills, and Crab Clear Out, a game where students had to move like crabs and keep the balls off their side of the field.

Liam Moloney and Tommy Dunn try to stop Levi Nieves from

scoring a goal.

Zoe Knight, Levi Nieves, Liam Moloney and Emma Campbell enjoy a game of soccer to practise their kicking and passing

skills.

Unfortunately, the opponent, managed to secure the lead and defend their line until the final whistle was blown. Crookwell went down 9-6, putting an end to their winning streak.

Last Friday, 16th

August, the Crookwell Public School Girls Touch Football team took on a known opponent, Bungendore Public School. After being knocked out of the soccer competition by this team, Crookwell were quite nervous, and yet, excited to have a second chance in defeating their opposition. The teams were very evenly matched. It was Crookwell’s ability to work as a team unit that got them over the line, coming away with a 4-2 victory. Both a teacher and parent from Bungendore Public School expressed how incredibly impressed they were by the skill and sportsmanship the Crookwell girls displayed. They commented on their excellent defence capabilities that made the game pleasurable to watch.

The girls have now advanced to Round 5 of the Knockout competition. They will come up against Bowral Public School in their first home ground game for the season. This will be played at Todkill Park on Wednesday, 28

th August at

12:30pm, Good luck girls!

Team work makes the dream work!

Jump Rope for Heart kicks off this term! Jump Rope for Heart is a fantastic physical activity and fundraising program that has been run by the Heart Foundation for 35 years. It’s a great way for your child to keep fit and learn new skills, but it also helps raise funds for vital heart research and education programs. Students will be skipping throughout the term in PE lessons and during recess and lunch breaks, to develop their skipping skills and fitness levels.

Since Jump Rope for Heart started in 1983, schools like ours have raised more than $75 million for the Heart Foundation’s lifesaving work.

Rather than have individual students fundraise for this worthwhile cause, we have decided to fundraise by holding a ‘Jump Off Day’ at school. We ask that all students wear casual clothes (sensible footwear for skipping please!) and bring a gold coin donation.

We will hold our school ‘Jump Off Day’ on Thursday 26th

September. This will mark the end of the program and is a chance for everyone to come together to skip and show off their newly learned skills. All classes will be presenting a skipping routine at the CPS Jump Off Day, held in the hall/COLA area on Thursday 26

th September beginning

at 12pm. Family and friends are invited to attend our ‘Jump

Off Day’ and stay for a BBQ lunch with their child/children afterwards. All money raised will be donated to the Heart Foundation.

BBQ Sausage Sandwich $2 Popper $1 Zooper Dooper 50c Tea/Coffee available

If you would like to make a donation to the Heart Foundation, please place money in a sealed envelope labelled ‘Heart Foundation’, and hand in to the office. Please don’t hesitate to contact Ms Caffery if you have any questions.

Thank you for supporting the Jump Rope for Heart program!

Thank you from Mrs White I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff and students of Crookwell Public School for welcoming me to your school for my final teaching placement. I would especially like to thank Mrs Graham for her professional support and guidance over the last four weeks.

I have learnt invaluable teaching skills that I will certainly implement during my own teaching career over the years to come. I would also like to thank the students of 1/2 Emu for welcoming me into their classroom and for being such capable and enthusiastic students who take pride in their learning.

I look forward to returning to Crookwell Public School in the near future after I submit my final assessments.

With warmth and thanks, Mrs White

Book Week 2019 Thursday saw students and teachers across the school arrive at school dressed in a very different fashion. From Willy Wonkas, Where’s Wallys, Tiny Tims and super heroes galore, everyone was excited as they headed to the hall for our Book Week Parade. Kindergarten led the way with our terrific library monitors hosting the morning. The cutest kids in school definitely put on a show and it was terrific to see many younger siblings joining in. All students had a chance to introduce their characters and show off their creative costumes. Well done students and parents, it was very exciting to see so many people excited about reading.

The Cramp family went all out for Book Week this year!

Fantastic work!

Kayla McDonald, Jackson Windsor, Lachlan Nolan and Jack

Frost were brilliant in the Where’s Wally and Wenda costumes.

Jim Dawson wasn’t running from our school policeman,

Constable Perring!

Luke Palmer and Sam Frost made amazing Willy Wonkas.

Reading is my SUPER POWER!

Cooper Galway, Brax Druett and Danny Caves were

unrecognisable in their Bumblebee costumes.

Laura Churchill and Lachie Nolan looked fantastic dressed as their favourite characters, Dorothy and Where’s Wally.

We were lucky enough to have not one, not two, but three Matildas! Ava Wilcox-Symons, Zoe Knight and Charli Kelly

looked wonderful!

Georgie Robertson, aka, the lion from ‘The Very Cranky

Bear’, was found hiding in the trees!

The boys dressed as Spiderman, Chayse McDonald, Alvin

Pearson, Levi Webster and Piquet Nelson, spent their playtime spinning webs in the playground.

Ellie Whittington and Florence Dark have been working on writing their own story for Book Week for weeks and came

dressed as their book’s main characters.

Crookwell Public School’s Literary Challenge! We invite all interested students to partake in our literary challenge. As you would be aware, our library stairs have been transformed into book spines of popular children books. The challenge for students is to read every book whose title is listed on the stairs to receive a special award before they exit primary school. As you complete reading a book, have your parents or teachers sign to indicate that you have read that particular book and once you have read the entire list of books below, please present this sheet to Mr Whittington to receive your Literary Challenge badge. 1/2 Emu’s Town Library Visit On Tuesday morning, Mrs Whittington’s and Mrs Graham’s 1/2 classes visited the town library. With Fathers’ Day fast approaching, Michaela Olde read 1/2 Emu a picture book called ‘School for Dad’s’. The children discussed their fathers and how they are all different.

Both classes completed a craft activity where they created cardboard ties covered in coloured paper and coloured pencil. The children were very proud of their masterpieces. We look forward to our town library visits every fortnight!

NSW PSSA Girls Hockey Knockout Well what a day! Tuesday brought not only the gale force winds to Goulburn but also the Crookwell Girls Hockey team! They were on a mission, the only girls team to make it this far in at least the last 15 years. The team captain, Annie Knight, led the girls on to the blustery field and set the pace in a very well matched game against Bowral Public School. With Mackenzie Gauci up front along with Lillian Skelly’s fast pace, we were off to a very strong start. Our defence players Regan Selmes, Betsy Willis and Kiarna McCarten were determined not to let anyone past.

The first half had everyone on the edge of their seats with a nil all draw. The second half began with a similar fast pace and before we knew it we were on the board! Shortly after Bowral scored a fantastic goal, showing their talent and then began the nail-biting finish. It was only with a few minutes to go that the deciding goal was scored, unfortunately by a very skilful Bowral team.

Congratulations to our team who showed such skill, sportsmanship and determination throughout their season. A huge thank you to coach, Mrs Suzie Anderson, who worked tirelessly with the team each week and inspired them to keep going!

Annie Knight dribbles down field looking for a gap in the

defence.

Coach Suzie Anderson volunteered her time each

Wednesday afternoon to coach the girls and we greatly appreciate our coach’s fabulous effort. We will go again in

2020!

Some Benefits of Regular School Attendance For Students:

The development of skills and attitudes such as self-discipline, punctuality, and being organised will optimise life choices.

Regular attendance leads to making friends and learning how to maintain relationships over a length of time.

Regular attendance leads to learning social skills necessary to live and work with others.

It’s safer at school than on the street.

The more students attend, the more they will learn and the more they will like school.

How many days of school has your child missed this term?

Waste Free Wednesday Another week of Waste Free Wednesday has flown by with students continuing to reduce their daily waste production. Once again classes have worked hard to keep their rubbish levels down and there are some very impressive looking lunchboxes. Keep up the amazing work everyone!

RSPCA Cupcake Day Stirling Inder of Year 5 loves animals and cupcakes. He researched to see what he could do to enjoy both and found RSPCA Cupcake Day! Stirling and his family were busy baking in the lead up to the event where he sold delicious cupcakes to the school community to raise money for the RSPCA.

The day was very successful and there were many extremely satisfied customers who enjoyed a scrumptious cupcake while supporting a great cause. Well done Stirling on using your initiative and finding a way to give back to the community.

Stirling Inder and Billy Snape were kept busy in the canteen

selling loads of cupcakes.

Riley Hill was another satisfied customer on RSPCA

Cupcake Day.
