Dear Friends,
I hope this year has started with an abundance of opportuni� es along with peace and good health. I took a minute the other day to count my blessings and refl ect on the many small moments for which I am thankful: laughter, a smile, warm slippers and snowfl akes. These things make me happy!
Our new year began sadly when a former parent shared her heartbreaking story. Her twenty-one year old son lost his life, the vic� m of needless violence. We were overcome with grief. More o� en we hear stories of how our grown children are going into successful careers. This devasta� ng story le� me thinking about how fragile life is, and that senseless violence needs to end. Join us in surrounding this family in prayer.
Where do we start? One step at a � me with one child and one parent. Change begins at Angels’ Place with the support of you, our dear friends. Early on we made a commitment to peaceful and strength-based approaches in delivering our services.
Many years ago, observing the needs of our families and the community, our children’s programming began to focus on developing social emo� onal skills. With prac� ce, children are increasing skills for compassion, empathy, the ability to listen and pay a� en� on, controlling their behaviors and ul� mately interac� ng with others in a posi� ve and meaningful way. Promo� ng family engagement helps to share the valuable message with our parents.
Using our evidence based social/emo� onal curriculum we ensure a framework has been established for our children to enter kindergarten ready to learn. Angels’ Place off ers intensive support for two genera� ons that provides life changing results. The program is small but the impact is immense. We are laying a founda� on for children and parents to approach the world, incorpora� ng peace and posi� ve approaches towards naviga� ng life.
Research shows high quality early childhood education is one of the best investments we can make with public dollars; an
effective weapon against academic failure, high school dropout rates, crime and poverty, for a shared future that is healthier, more academically, socially and economically successful.1
One of the things I con� nue to be amazed by is the mul� tude of people who engage regularly with Angels’ Place. I’m thinking specifi cally about the holidays and the generous, kind outpouring of support for our families and our program. I’m also grateful that Angels’ Place has been the recipient of your compassionate eff orts for 34 years.
Thank you, our success is a direct result of your commitment to advancing our mission. The collec� ve eff orts of so many diff erent people desiring be� er lives for our parents and children is a blessing. Together we are changing the fabric of our society and off ering tools for promo� ng peace rather than violence. Let’s keep the peace together and follow Mother Theresa’s advice “peace begins with a smile!”

AMAZING HELPERS Cra� s for a Cause, part of the PNC volunteer program, is an event to bring smiles and dona� ons to organiza� ons. Danielle Dolcich rallied a team to support Angels’ Place. In February the group made over 60 Valen� ne placemats for our centers. The children received a placemat and treat bag which brought smiles to their faces. We are grateful to Cra� s for a Cause for hos� ng this event in our honor.

Ma� and Vanessa found out about us in the Pi� sburgh Post-Gaze� e and were touched by the mission. We have been blessed to form a friendship with their family, including their two amazing daughters. Of the available blends, Ma� especially recommends Eliza Furnace. “Eliza Furnace—I am really proud of our espresso. It’s bold and has great body but is mellow and chocolatey and just bi� er enough—I think it is a very well-balanced espresso.”
