“W” IS COMING TO ATHENS Former President George W. Bush will be the featured speaker at
the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Benefit Dinner
next June. The announcement was made Saturday night at the
conclusion of this year’s banquet, which featured Bo Jackson,
former college and pro football star. Jackson won the Heisman Trophy in 1985 while playing as a running back for Auburn. He
also played pro ball with the Los Angeles Raiders. The photo
from Bruce Hari shows Jackson on the stage, answering questions
from program emcee Steve Hartline.

In last Friday’s Morning Fax we featured a photo of Junior McCowan receiving a plaque from Athens Police Chief Cliff Couch. Our story said McCowan was being recognized because he was the first African-American police officer in Athens. That is incorrect. Actually, he was the second black officer. The first was Elbert Lane.
