Father Paul’s Reflections on the Readings

19th Sunday in Ordinary Time

In the early days of sailing, a boy went to sea to be a sail-or. One day when the sea was stormy, he was told to climb the top of the mast. The first half of the climb was easy. The boy kept his eyes fixed on the sky. But halfway to the top, he made a mistake. He looked down at the stormy waters. He grew dizzy and was in danger of fall-ing. An old sailor called out to him: "Look back at the sky boy! Look back at the sky!" The boy followed the old man's instructions and finished the climb successfully. The boy's mistake was the same one Peter made in to-day's gospel. He took his eyes off his goal and looked down at the stormy sea, just as Peter took his eyes from the Lord. He asked him to come out on the water. Peter happily got out of the boat and walked on the waters to the Lord till he looked at the huge waves in the sea.) Till he gazed at the Lord he had no problem and walked on the water but the moment he looked at the troubled wa-ters of the sea, he began to sink. When he started to doubt in the power of the Lord and got frightened of the evil powers, he began to sink. This is exactly what hap-pens in our lives. As long as our eyes are fixed on the Lord we fear nothing and we go forward to reach him. But the moment we start getting weighed down by the trou-bles and tribulations in the life and world, we begin to doubt in the power of the Lord, we begin to sink.” For a Christian, a journey without the company of Jesus is al-ways dangerous.) It is interesting to note that when Peter walked on the water, there were other disciples in the same boat sitting beside Peter. They had the same oppor-tunities to walk on the water. Peter was the only one will-ing to get out of his comfort zone and try something that he had never tried before. Opportunities knock on the door. Like Peter you have to get out of your safe zone and get over into the faith zone. If you want to walk on the water, you have to get out of the boat. You can ’t expect to stay in your safe zone your life and expect to reach your highest potential. You have to be willing to take some risks. If you rise up in confidence and take advantage of your God given opportunities, you will be amazed at what you can do.

During these uncertain times, we ask you to consider making a gift to our Caring Crusader Campaign, which will help as

we prepare for the upcoming school year. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, we are busy making upgrades to keep our stu-

dents and teachers safe and healthy.

We are also planning for scenarios that may be difficult to face, including:

· Students who need additional financial assistance to return due to loss of household income

· Increased school expenses due to the need for PPE and sanitization products

· Additional cleaning procedures

· Need for operating assistance to offset potential income losses

A gift to this campaign will help with all the above scenarios and instill confidence that CCS will overcome this pandemic

together! Our overall goal for this campaign is to raise $25,000 by September 8, when school is set to resume. So please

consider helping us to achieve that goal on a quick deadline!

If you would like to make a gift to the "Caring Crusader Campaign", please mark on your check Caring Crusader Campaign

Director, Miranda Zambito at 304-830-1572. Thank you for your meaningful support of Corpus Christi School!

Queen of Heaven and earth. We join them in praising you and bless the Lord

who raised you above all creatures. With them we honor you. We are confi-
