Aliah University is a State University, which came into existence through West Bengal ActXXVII of 2007, also known as The Aliah University Act, 2007 passed by the West BengalLegislative Assembly. The Act came into force on 5 April 2008. Aliah University was upgradedfrom the Calcutta Madrasah College (erstwhile Madrasah Aliah). Apart from the regular process of teaching, learning and research, Aliah University, aims toinstill the dynamism of its glorious heritage of the past among all its students and scholars,so that they can successfully cope with the critical needs and challenges of the present andcontribute to the future advancement of science, technology, and human civilization.Aliah University has approvals from statutory bodies like UGC, AICTE, NCTE, INC and WNBC.

The University has 23 academic departments and offers 49 academic programmes withpresent intake capacity of 980 students in postgraduate level and 1426 students inundergraduate level. In 2019, Aliah University was included in the list of Universities under section 12(B) of the UGCAct, 1956. It has introduced Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) to the undergraduateprograms and planning to introduce it in the PG Courses in the session 2021-22. The University has set up an Institute’s Innovation Council (IIC) as well as Innovation Centrewith the principal objective to boost local home-bred entrepreneurial and start-up ventureswhich may help students, faculties and other members of the ambient population. We aretrying to get projects funded by Central as well as State Government that may help tostrengthen its drive in the domain of social entrepreneurship. Aliah University is also amember of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The University has established strongacademic linkages with various national and international institutions. Academicians from alarge number of universities visit and participate in various academic programmes at AliahUniversity.This year we are planning to introduce Bachelors in Medical Laboratory Technology (BMLT)and Value Added Courses (VACs) to enhance the employability of our students. The education sector along with the socio-economic fabric of the country had not been asrattled as it is now since March 2020. Keeping the wellness of the stakeholders as a priority,the institutes of learning – schools, colleges and universities – have closed shops since thenand not sure when it will resume its normal functions. Nevertheless, that does not mean thatthe teaching learning has stopped. We have shifted from a physical platform to a digital one.Thus, education today has undergone a massive change because of the digital mode. We, atAliah University, implemented G-Suite to use the Google Classroom Platform for impartingregular classes. Before starting the classes, we conducted a structured teachers’ training toget them used to the new systems. There were initial hiccups but now both the students andteachers have adapted themselves to this change. However, the warmth of teacher-studentrelationship is amiss and connectivity issues are rampant. The University actively participated in the relief activities to the peoples affected by the furyof Amphan in 2020 and Yaas in 2021.In the pandemic situation, different departments of the Aliah University organized a largenumber of webinars with distinguished experts, professionals and in-house faculty membersas panellists on the thrust areas. These webinars were targeted on faculty developmentprogrammes (FDPs), innovation & research.

Training and Placement Cell has introduced the “Communicative English and StudentDevelopment Programme” for B. Tech., MBA, MCA students. A programme on “ElementaryEnglish for Adult Learners” also introduced for Theology and Arabic students. As a steptowards academic and industrial partnership, Aliah University has signed MOUs with manyrenowned organizations e.g. National Small Industries Corporation Ltd. (NSIC), KRACKiN SkillX etc. To enhance employability, core competencies among students, experts from industryand professional organizations are invited for grooming, up-skilling, and soft skill-development of students from 3rd year and final year batches. Total number of On-Campus,Pool Campus, and Off-Campus drives held between 2018 -2020 (March) is 114.A unique of its kind, the University presently has 3 Campuses, 23 Departments, and offers 49different academic as well as professional programmes. Research programmes in variousdisciplines are also being pursued actively and there is immense scope for progress in thenear future. We, at the Aliah University, endeavour to inculcate competency, creativity, and compassionin every student to work for the advancement of the educationally backward classes andmarginalized sections of the society. The University believes in cultural pluralism and unity indiversity for which our country is always recognized everywhere with deep respect. To summerize, with a well-knit fabric among the stakeholders – teachers, non-teaching staff,students and researchers, and alumni, we are committed to an all round development ofAliah University. We attempt to kindle a sense of – duty, honesty, justice, and principallypledge to serve humanity.

INTRODUCTION Due to prevailing pandemic situation,

this year also Aliah University Admissionis going to start in two phases. In Phase-I,admission of all UG and MBAprogrammes will be taken through meritscore calculation based on qualifyingexamination/examinations exceptB.Tech, BCA, Lateral entry to 2nd yearB.Tech and Nursing programmes forwhich Aliah University Admission Test(AUAT)-2021 will be taken and admissionwill be followd based on merit in the test.In Phase-II, admission of all PG and B.Edprogrammes will be taken through meritscore calculation based on qualifyingexamination/examinations. For this, aseparate notification will be made in duecourse of time.

Aliah University has a unique pre-history. A brief look at this will offer an understanding of itssocial and cultural importance. Its parent institution Aliah Madrasah was the firstgovernment-funded educational institution in British India. The chief intention forestablishing this institution was to educate the children of Muslim families in Arabic, Persianand Muslim Law so that they might be eligible to get jobs in different GovernmentDepartments like revenue administration and the judiciary. However, within a decade thecurriculum of Aliah Madrasah had also encompassed modern subjects like arithmetic,geometry, astronomy and the natural sciences along with the more traditional branches of learning like Law, Theology, Elementary Grammar, Philosophy and Logic. In 1821, the AnnualExamination of the Madrasah was held in the presence of many respectable officials andgentlemen of Calcutta. This was the first public examination held in British India. A medicalclass, headed by Dr Peter Breton, Professor of Medicine, was started at this Madrasah in 1826for the first time in British India. Dr Breton was authorized to purchase a skeleton and collectmedical books. An anatomical work published by John Taylor was arranged to be translatedinto Arabic. The medical class continued here till the establishment of Calcutta MedicalCollege in 1836.However, the students of the Madrasah were allowed to study medicine atCalcutta Medical College. This speaks for the high standard of education at the Madrash inthose days. English was first introduced at Aliah Madrasah in 1826, though the number ofstudents was quite low as Persian was still medium of administration in British India. In 1854at the recommendation of a Committee an English school, in the name of Anglo-PersianDepartment, was started under the direct control of the Principal of Calcutta Madrasah.

After the Revolt of 1857, the British rulers began to have a suspicious attitude to the Muslims.There were proposals to abolish the Madrasah. However, in 1860, the Government of India,rejecting the idea of abolition, rather recommended improvement in its management. Sothe Madrasah continued to exist. Some reforms were introduced at the Calcutta Madrasahaccording to the suggestions of a committee consisting of C.H. Campbell, Commissioner ofthe Presidency Division, I. Sutcliff, Principal of Presidency College, and Nawab Abdul Latif,then a Deputy Magistrate. Further reforms were introduced at the recommendations of theEducation Commission headed by W.W. Hunter in 1884. Nawab Abdul Latif and Justice SyedAmir Ali played a very important role in these reforms.

In 1896 Elliot Hostel was founded, with funds raised out of donations from the public. In 1902the Muslim Institute was established as a part and parcel of Calcutta Madrasah. The Principalof the Madrasah was ex-officio President and Treasurer of the Muslim Institute. Severalcommittees and commissions were appointed in 1915, 1923, 1931, 1938-40, and 1946 for theimprovement in the syllabi, curricula and all round development of Madrasah education inBengal, particularly of Calcutta Madrasah. After Partition in 1947, this institution again facedsevere problems. According to the decision of the Separation Council, all books andmanuscripts, assets and estates of the Aliah Madrasah were transferred to the DaccaMadrasah. It was only at the initiative of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first EducationMinister of independent India, that the institutional framework of Calcutta Madrasah wasagain set up and teaching restarted. In 2001, the Government of West Bengal, under thedirection of the eminent educationist and the then Governor of West Bengal and Bihar, Dr. A.R. Kidwai, formed a Madrasah Education Committee. This Committee presented itsrecommendations for the continued development and future excellence of Aliah Madrasahin 2002. Finally, the over-two-hundred-year old institution was elevated to the status of aUniversity in 2007. Aliah University – a State University under the Department of MinorityAffairs and Madrasah Education, Government of West Bengal – came into existence throughthe Aliah University Act (Act XXVII of 2007) passed by the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.The Act came into force on 5 April 2008. Classes were being held in various rented buildingsat Sector I and Sector V of Salt Lake City, apart from the Heritage building at Haji Md MohsinSquare. In 2011 the Government of West Bengal led by Mamata Banerjee, the Hon’ble ChiefMinister, allotted 20 acres of land at New Town and the foundation stone for the New TownCampus was laid by her on 15 December 2011. The newly-built building was inaugurated byher on 11 November 2014, National Education Day. By this time the G+ 9 building at ParkCircus Campus was also completed. So, the academic and administrative activities of theuniversity started at both these two new campuses from January 2015. It may be observedthat Aliah Madrasah from its early days imparted teaching in both the traditional subject oftheology and the modern sciences, social sciences, and humanities. To keep alive thistradition of teaching, right from the start, Aliah University has offered courses in thetraditional Islamic Theology and Arabic along with subjects like English, Bengali, History andGeography and many other branches of Science (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics,Biological Sciences) as well as Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics andCommunications, Computer Science and Engineering), Management and BusinessAdminstration, Nusrsing and Journalism and Mass Communication. Keeping in mind therequirements of the employment sector in the 21st century, right from the start, greatemphasis has been put on courses in the Sciences, Engineering, Technology andManagement so that students from the minority community become eligible and cancompete for jobs in various sectors. In keeping with the great stress laid by the UGC on theSemester system of education and Letter Grade process of marking, Aliah University hasadopted semesterization, credit system, continuous assessment, and letter grading from itsinception. All UG carriculum is running under CBCS pattern as per UGC from 2019-20 and2020-21 academic sessions and steps are already being taken to introduce the CBCS in all PGprogrammes from 2021-22 academic session.

The upper age limit is 25 years as on 31st December 2021except for the following: (i) M.A. in Islamic Theology, IslamicStudies, M.Tech.-27 years, (ii) B.Ed.-30 years, (iii) M.A. inEducation-32 years, (iv) No upper age limit for LL.M.

Though the upper age limit is mentioned above, all theapplicants applying for postgraduate programs who havepassed the qualifying examination before2019 are not eligibleto apply.

SELECTION ANDADMISSION PROCEDURE

·All Candidates wish to take admission in Aliah Universitymust apply through online mode of application only, linkfor which will be given in the university website onscheduled date.Candidates have to upload the required documents duringapplication.After submitting the online application successfully aconfirmation sheet/application pdf bearing the fullapplication summary with the photo & signature of thecandidate will be generated by the system. Application isnot complete until the confirmation sheet/applicationsubmission form is generated.Candidates have to download and print the confirmationsheet/application submission form and should preserve thesame carefully.A general merit list will be published for Islamic Theologyand the next e-counseling will be done to select the centre.Taking part in e-counselling process does not guaranteethe admission. If candidate were not allotted in his/her 1stchoice, we will consider his/her 2nd choice (if given byhis/her) and this process will continue until his/her lastchoice. Any decision will be taken by the conductingauthority in regard to any issue related to counselling willbe deemed as final.All the available seats will be considered for allotment.The allotment result will be declared on the universitywebsite at https://aliah.ac.inAfter getting an allotment, candidates have to pay theadmission fees through online mode. Details will be madeavailable on website ·In case candidates fail to present/ attend at the onlineadmission processes then, the seat will be offered to thenext candidate in line.·All admission will be provisional and will stand cancelled ifthe candidate fails to satisfy the eligibility criteria at anystage.

Documents required for Final Admission /Documents Verification

The following documents in original & two sets of self attestedphotocopies are required at the time of final admission/documentsverification.

1) Confirmation Sheet/submitted application form.2) Rank Card.3) Online admission receipt/ payment receipt.4) Filled in Admission Form with passport size photo attached.5) Anti-ragging undertaking of parent and candidate both in non-judicial Rs. 10 stamp paper (given at ANNEXURE A and ANNEXURE Bduly affirmed in front of an Oath Commissioner).6) All original Mark sheets & Certificates of class X, XII and Graduation(wherever applicable).7) Admit card of 10th level.8) Proof of age: 10th standard admit card/10the standardcertificate/birth certificate.9) PC/PwD certificate in original (wherever applicable).10) Migration certificate (if previously studied in any another university).11) Transfer certificate or college leaving certificate issued by the college.No other certificate in lieu of this will be accepted.12) Character certificate to be obtained on the college letter head/pad,no othercertificate in lieu of this will be accepted.13) Residential proof (Voter Card/Aadhar Card)/Residential certificatefrom competent authority.14) Two copies of recent passport size photograph.

IMPORTANT NOTES

All the Post Graduate programs including LL.M programs are dayprograms.For all the Post Graduate programs except 2 year M.A. in Education, 80%of seats will be reserved for internal candidates (Students who havecompleted their last degree from Aliah University) and 20% of seats willbe reserved for external candidates.In a 2-year M.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication, the division ofseats is 50% for BA JMC/Media Science/Film Studies, 25% forScience/Engineering, and 25% for Humanities/Social Sciences.The seats reserved for internal candidates may be filled from the list ofexternal candidates if the list of internal candidates exhaust and vice-versa.In 2 year LL.M. program the division of seats as per specialization shall be:15 in Business Law and 15 in Family Law, specialization will be on the basisof merit of 1st semester total marks.As M.Tech courses run by Aliah University are not approved by the AICTE,no MHRD/GATE scholarship is available to the admitted students.All admission will be provisional. Admission through AUAT-2021will standscanceled if the candidate fails to satisfy the eligibility criteria at any stage.All admissions are subject to verification of particulars from the originalmark Sheet/Grade Card and other documents of the candidate.AT ANY STAGE OF TIME IF ANY DISCREPANCY IS FOUND, THE ADMISSIONOF THE CANDIDATE WILL BE CANCELLED AND THERE WILL BE NOREFUND OF FEES.

RESERVATION OF SEATS

RESERVATION OF SEATS: The category of a candidate other than PC/PwDis hereby termed as GEN category.

PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED (PC) CANDIDATES /PERSON WITH DISABILITY(PWD) - 4 % seats are reserved for candidates belonging to the PC/PwDcategory, who are otherwise fit to pursue any programme. For anycategory of disability (viz., orthopedic, visual, speech, and/or hearing),benefit would be given to those candidateswho have at least 40%permanent physical impairment in relation to a bodypart/system/extremity/extremities/ whole body, etc.

The candidates in this category will be required to submit a certificate ofimpairment from the competent authority.

NB: After the last counselling if any reserved seat/seats remain vacant, theUniversity will fill up the vacant seat/seats from GEN category strictly fromthe merit list or vice versa.
