Coping with the ever-growingpatient volume

KhanewalConstruction on the new OPD Complex is progressingaccording to schedule and it is expected to be ready by theend of this year. With a significant increase and adequate spacebeing made available for the convenience of the patients, there will be smooth flow and movement of those visiting thehospital for treatment. It will provide new consultation rooms, biometry, laboratory, dispensary, laser treatment room, refraction room, an additional Operation Theatre and a minorOperation Theatre. We are grateful to our generous donor inUAE who is funding this entire venture at an estimated costof Rs. 14.42 million.

KorangiIn order to provide comfort to the patients whose numberscontinue to swell with each passing day, a new block of eighttoilets has been constructed so that patients do not have towait for an extended period of time.

Construction work on the first floor in the residential blockwas initiated to provide accommodation for the traineesundergoing the Refractionist and OT Technician courses whichhave begun this year following approval by the Sindh MedicalFaculty. This was felt necessary due to the addition of a secondbatch of 20 candidates that have also been enrolled and oncompletion will enable them to provide quality eye care at theCommunity Eye Care Centers and the Hospitals. Work on thisproject is expected to be completed by end April 2012 at acost of Rs. 1.56 million.

A new sewerage system has also being laid in order to preventdifficulties that were faced in the last monsoon season due tosystem limitations of the previous line.

New Hospitals

OdigramConstruction of a new purpose built 40 bed Hospital beganon 2nd April in order to provide our patients a properenvironment which is presently lacking due to paucity of spacein the present set up at Barikot, where we are temporarilyhoused in a portion of the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.According to plans now, we expect completion of this projectby the end of July 2013. We are grateful to Pakistan ItalianDebt for Swap Agreement( PIDSA) for their unflinching supportand funding which has made this venture possible. Furtherfunding to meet the shortfall has been provided by Mr. UsmanParacha and the Infaq Foundation.

North KarachiAs planned, the new Hospital after completion of remodelingprocess was inaugurated and began operations in full swingat the beginning of the New Year. For a long time this was feltnecessary as patients had to travel a long distance from thesuburbs of Karachi i.e. Surjani, Kati Pahari, Gulberg, New Karachietc. to receive treatment at the Korangi Hospital. With thisfacility being made available close to their localities, it willhelp bring comfort and ease to the poor patients who werehaving to sacrifice a days wage. In the first quarter, 10,593patients were examined at the OPD and 702 surgeries wereperformed.
