Twitter Privacy Settings

Page 11: Controlling Your Social Networking Privacy Settings

Search for your username on the Twitter homepage to find out what other people are saying about you!

Hopefully it’s all good. If not, you can block those people from following you or direct messaging you! (or talk to Twitter owners)

Page 12: Controlling Your Social Networking Privacy Settings

You can control your privacy on Twitter by clicking on “Settings.”

Page 13: Controlling Your Social Networking Privacy Settings

Click on “Notices” so that you find out when people are following you or direct messaging you. This way you can remove the people you don’t want following you. Or better: protect your tweets!

Page 14: Controlling Your Social Networking Privacy Settings

Do not reveal your location. Your real friends know where you are.

Protect your “tweets” so that only trusted friends can follow you.

Page 15: Controlling Your Social Networking Privacy Settings

The Lock means you’ve “protected your tweets.” This is a great Twitter privacy setting.

Page 16: Controlling Your Social Networking Privacy Settings

If you’ve “Protected Your Tweets,” people will have to request to follow you. Block people you don’t know in person.

Page 17: Controlling Your Social Networking Privacy Settings

If you see followers on your profile that you do not want following you, you can remove them by “Blocking” them. Block people you don’t know.

Rating people is a type of cyber-bullying! Don’t do it!

Page 25: Controlling Your Social Networking Privacy Settings

This person is a male named Sonia with a sunset for a picture.

Seems nice (or a little strange), but it could be dangerous!

Don’t ever try to “meet” someone unless you know them in person.

Page 26: Controlling Your Social Networking Privacy Settings

Again, don’t give your email address book informationto social networks. Your email contacts should remain private.

It will be embarrassing when your grandmother gets an email invitation from you to join you on “Hi5.”

In General…

Page 28: Controlling Your Social Networking Privacy Settings

Anyone can use whatever picture they want on the Internet, so beware! A nice picture can hide a not-so-nice person!

It’s best not to use your full name on any social networking site – especially until you’re 18.

If you are too young to use a social network, don’t lie, but your true age (teen-aged) may invite cyber-predators, so be careful. Hide your age if you can!

Page 29: Controlling Your Social Networking Privacy Settings

•Many social networks have a feature that will go through your email address book looking for “friends” or invite all of your address book to be a part of the social network.•Do you really want to invite your rabbi, priest, English teacher or librarian (or whoever else is in your email address book) to be your friend on MySpace?

Page 30: Controlling Your Social Networking Privacy Settings

If you feel harrassed or bullied on a social network:

• Ask the operators of the network for help

•Let them know you are a minor

• Or confide in a trusted adult

Page 31: Controlling Your Social Networking Privacy Settings

When on a social network:

• Only post things you wouldn’t mind an adult seeing

• Make sure you have a trusted adult as a “friend” or as a “follower.”

•This will remind you to be on your best online behavior!

• Future employers may see what you have posted

•Colleges and scholarship organizations will look at what you’ve posted
