Show Report Model X 2015The show was held in the usual venue; the Waitakere BigTop, over the usual Queen’s Birthday weekend. It featured both lots of the usual exhibitors and a few new ones, as in previous years.
Run by the Western Districts Model Railway Club there were, of course, a few model railway displays - one of them set in the Australian Outback even had the Ettamoogah Pub of Australian Post Magazine fame! There were also some model tram layouts, and an interesting large-scale layout which featured 3D-printed rolling stock. As well as organisers, IPMS Auckland were also present, running a few ‘Make and Take’ sessions for the kids.
There was a 3D printer working happily away and some of the future technology and abilities for these are quite interesting and have some potential for model-making purposes.
Further from the world of plastic modelling, the R/C Boat Club were back, and even if that’s not quite your thing, there is some impressive work being done. The Meccano Club was also in evidence - their stuff is always impressive, both from an engineering point of view and from sheer size!
Most unusually, I saw an entire display of plants in shoes/boots - not what you’d expect.
Your humble scribe and friend also displayed our usual mix of... um... eclectic subject matter, and the stands were rounded out by a few retailers. Space, and therefore exhibitors, were down on previous years, but it was still three days of talking about (and buying) models, so what’s not to like?

Junior ModellersRay thorpeHi there Junior Modellers.
Every year we have a natural progression of junior modellers coming and going from the club. Clashes with sporting, extramural and other recreational activities have taken a heavy toll this year with our junior membership almost halving since November 2014. The good news is that we now have 8 openings in the club for those of you who have any friends looking for a spot.
The 4th of July session was well attended by our juniors but only two intermediates made the 2nd session making the most of the extra space and use of the spray booths at the time.
Our BSK this year is proving to be more challenging with not enough modelling being done at home, hence the extra session on the 18th July for BSK ENTRANTS ONLY to help finish off their models. The other good news is that with fewer BSK entries, those of you who have finished models on the table will have a better chance walking away with one of splendid prizes on offer from prize pool.

With only one session to go plus the July school holidays the time is ticking away to get those models finished. And the A team reported good progress during the June session.
1st prizes for BSK Aircraft, Ships and AFV categories. 2nd and 3rd prizes are a surprise!

Programme for BSK judging and prize givingBSK entries will be judged and prizes awarded at the next club meeting on Wednesday the 29th of July.
The programme will be as follows:
• Location Petone Working Men’s Club, Udy Street, Petone.• Set up & registration 7.40-8.00 pm• Judging 8.00-8.20 pm • Prize giving 8.30-8.45 pm
Remember that this year the Adult BSK will be held at the same time which will give you all a good opportunity to compare notes and see what the adults have been up to. The judges will have their hands full on the night so once the judging begins please respect the need to keep well away from the models being judged and be patient. Note that the results of the adult competition will only be posted in the August Newsletter, whereas yours will announced on the night along with prize giving.
The list of juniors for each session for 2015 is as follows:
First session 1.00pm to 3.00pm• Fergal, Nevan, Nathan, Harrison, Madeline, Eric, Connor.
Second session 3.00pm to 5.00pm• Samuel, George, Ben, Shaquille, Cameron, William.
If I have missed anyone or if you would like to change your session time or bring a new member along please give me a call well beforehand, PLEASE let me know by the Friday night before the Saturday session. Please remember that we still have a waiting list and more importantly our helpers all give up their Saturday afternoon to help out.
Please don’t forget your $2.00 GOLD COIN donation for each session and please stick to your allotted time.
Memberships for 2015/16 are now overdue so make sure you get your renewals posted to our treasurer well before the BSK event on the 29 July.
