LUXICON Basics

This section will cover some of the basic elements of LUXICON starting with theStart Screen. Shown below is the typical Start Up Menu  you will see when youstart LUXICON. You have the option to Start a new Project, open an existing

project you previously worked on, or go directly to one of the Wizard helperprograms.

On the following page is a screen capture of the main LUXICON desktop (SeeFigure 1). The first row of words is referred to as the Main Menus. The next twoitems down are the toolbars. The first toolbar is considered the Main Toolbar and the bottom toolbar is called the Secondary Toolbar.

Once in LUXICON, you will find these toolbars to be extremely efficient anduseful. The icons are short cuts to many of the functions contained under dropdown menus. In time, you will find yourself whizzing through a LUXICON projectby use of the icons on these toolbars.

 10. How do I properly scale when import ing a dwg/dxf?

Architects and engineers rarely develop CAD drawings using a scale of 1 to 1.When importing drawings into a lighting software, such as LUXICON, the import

scale has to be determined.

When importing, select the appropriate Units under the AutoCAD section locatedbelow the drawing, typically Architectural.Import a drawing and check a known dimension to verify scale. If the drawing scale is not correct , set the Scale By to 1.00Determine a known dimension. The drawing may be dimensioned or use aknown measurement. Using the X and Y coordinates, located above the drawing, determine the measurement between points of a known distance. Consult withthe engineer or architect if the drawing is not dimensioned or a known referencedimension cannot be determined. Developing a lighting layout using an incorrect

scale will produce inaccurate results.Take the known dimension and divide by the distance measured using the X,Ycoordinates. This will be your scale.

For example, a US basketball court is 50 feet by 90 feet. If a CAD drawing isimported and the distance between the side boundary lines is measured at 13.9,you will divide 50 by 13.9. The calculated scale is 3.597, so you enter 3.597 intothe Scale By box.

Check a known measurement to confirm that the scale is correct.

11. I am getting the following error message when I run LUXICON onWindows XP: “ Run Time error ‘399’ Component CSMD32.ocx not correctlyregistered.”

This is an incompatibility problem with older versions of LUXICON (Versions 2.3or older) and Windows XP.

Solution: Upgrade to LUXICON version 2.5 by ordering a new CD –ROM.
