Fun Facts
Your great grandparents probably ate Gros Michel bananas before the variety was destroyed by the Panama disease in the 1950s. The most popu-lar type of banana sold in stores these days is the Cavendish, one that’s resistant to the strain of Panama disease that effectively wiped out the Gros Michel, but there are concerns that the Cavendish may too eventual-ly suffer a similar fate.
