_ Community Education- After School Youth Enrichment at Clearview Elementary School Grandmasters of Chess (Grades K-5) Youth Enrichment League New and returning students are invited to participate! Each {YEL!} Chess class follows four basic components: •Teach It! Each class students are taught different chess concepts and coached to implement those concepts into their chess games •Practice It! Students practice positions set by the coach to improve their understanding of the concept. •Puzzle It! Students are given chess puzzles (constructed by WIM Serafima Sokolovskaya) and work with coach guidance to solve them. •Play It! Each class ends with students playing 20-30 minutes of chess. Each {YEL!} LEGO STEM class follows four basic components: •Teach It! Each class students are taught the basic STEM engineering concepts behind each project. •Build It! Students use LEGO® bricks to build a land yacht, Formula 1 racer and design their own racecars. •Explore It! Then they use that project to explore the basic engineering concepts - this session is focused on wheels and axles concepts. •Play It! Participants will find states on the map, identify the capital and discuss unique things about that state. Every class will use visual aids as well as singing, movement and instrument play activities to enhance leaning. Instructor Kari is a board certified music therapist who has been teaching developmental and educational music classes for over 25 years. Music Across America is highly interactive, motivational and fun.
