St. Agnes and St. William of York

From the Pastor’s Desk Dear Friends:

Today we celebrate the great solemnity of Pentecost – the day on which the Holy Spirit came upon the Apostles to begin the mission of preaching the Gospel to every time and place. That mission has continued down through 2,000 years of history to our own time and in our community. In recent years we have come to a heightened realization of how important this mission is and the methods that we use to speak to the people of our own time and we call this the New Evangelization. The New Evangelization seeks to reconnect those who have drifted from their faith, introduce Jesus to those who have no faith, and to deepen everyone’s faith and discipleship.

Today we welcome Cardinal Edwin O’Brien (Archbishop Emeritus of Baltimore and Grand Master of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher) as the celebrant of the 11:30 Mass at which he will give the Sacrament of Confirmation to the young people of St. Agnes & St. William of York Parishes. I am grateful to the Cardinal for accepting my invitation and honoring us with his presence. Please pray that the Holy Spirit will make these newly confirmed Catholics heralds of the Gospel message. My thanks to Wayne Hipley for his fine program of preparation and for the many volunteers who have worked with our young people.

Tomorrow begins an exciting chapter in the history of St. Agnes Church as we begin the renovations on our sanctuary. Beginning tomorrow morning and continuing until the beginning of August we will worship in the Activity Center. Please be patient as we get used to a new surrounding and new procedures for Mass. A reminder that Tuesday Eucharistic Adoration will take place in St. William of York Church with a revised ending time of 6:45 pm.

Please take a moment to fill-out the community life survey found on the last page of this bulletin. Your input will help us plan for a new year of events! You can also take the survey online via our website.

May God bless you this week, Fr. Foppiano
