From the Pastor’s Desk

Dear Friends:

Last weekend I gave the annual Stewardship Report for the St. Agnes and St. William of York Community. Last week’s bulletin contained the full financial report for each parish. If you weren’t with us last weekend, both my homily and the Stewardship Report can be found on our website. If you would like a hardcopy of the report, please contact the Parish Office.

In my report I asked all our parish households to consider joining me in “Taking the Next Step” in offertory giving in 2018. The next step would be to increase the weekly offertory gift by a ½ or a full percentage point. I also hope that you might consider switching to on-line giving. On-line giving is easy and secure and can be done by following the link from our website.

This week we begin the month of November which in Catholic tradition is dedicated to prayer for the repose of the souls of the faithful depart. After the celebration of All Saints Day (a Holy Day of Obligation), November 2 is the more somber All Soul’s Day. You are invited to a special All Soul’s Day Mass of Remembrance on November 2 at 7 pm at St. William of York Church. At that Mass we will read the names of all who have been buried from St. Agnes and St. William of York over the last year. Everyone is welcome to bring a photo (no larger than 8x10) of a departed loved one to place on the altar rail during the Mass.

Please mark your calendars for Adoremus, the annual 40 Hours Devotion which will take place November 19-21. Our preacher this year is Fr. James Boric, the rector of the Basilica of the Assumption. Fr. Boric will be preaching on the Mass and understanding what happens at Mass and how to apply the graces of the Mass to our everyday lives. A special added feature this year will be a children’s program for ages 3 through second grade in the lower church at St. Agnes during the closing Mass on Tuesday, November 21. We hope this will help our families with younger children to attend the closing Mass and Procession.

May God bless you this week,

Fr. Foppiano

Please invite Catholic family members, friends, and neighbors, who may be in need of the healing graces given in this sacrament. If you need transportation to this Mass, please contact the Parish Office.

YOUTH MINISTRY

Middle School Faith Formation: What are you afraid of? Sunday evening our middle school youth will meet beginning at 6:30pm in the St. William of York Parish Center. Our theme for discussion will be “Facing Our Fears.” We’ll look at the things we fear and how to manage our anxieties through faith and fellowship. Refreshments will be served and the evening ends at 8:00pm.

Bishop Madden Prayer Walk: Bishop Madden’s next prayer walk will be Thursday, November 2 at St. Veronica (806 Cherry Hill Road) in Cherry Hill. The evening begins with a light meal at 5:30pm and ends before 7:30pm. We will pray at specific locations that have been affected by violence, for all those individuals affected, and for a change of heart in those given to violence. Join us as we continue to step out in faith to reclaim our city for Christ.

YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY

From the desk of Rob Costante, Principal…

www.stagnesschool.net

In most Catholic schools, the principal serves as the instructional and spiritual leader for the school community. And while these two areas are of immeasurable importance, there is one area which supersedes them both - the daily safety and security of our students. With this foremost duty in mind, this past week saw our faculty and staff conduct a lockdown, evacuation and parent reunification drill. This training exercise provided our community an opportunity to apply our emergency response plan during a mock incident scenario while our students rehearsed a shelter-in-place lock-down. After being successfully evaluated by members of our local police department, our students then evacuated to our off-campus safe staging site at Mount de Sales Academy. And as the final layer to this critical response drill, our message alert system notified our school families that we had evacuated our campus and that the students could be picked-up at Mount de Sales. Practicing all three layers of this drill provided great insight into how we would respond during a real emergency.

As my teachers and I proudly witnessed our 210 students swiftly and safely conduct our drill in complete silence, I was reassured knowing that the best preparation for the unknown future is a well-tended present with our attention focused on the details of our duty. Moreover, our commitment to security can be seen in the ways our students spend their days safely within the caring arms of our charming little schoolhouse. On a final note, I want to extend my gratitude to our local Police Department and to Mrs. Rose Thompson and the rest of the Mount de Sales community for allowing us to conduct the parent-reunification phase of our drill on their campus.

Please Make Note of the Following:

October 31st – “Hallow-Giving Parade Project” On Hallows Eve, the St. Agnes community uses this festive occasion as an opportunity in which to share the Light of Christ with others. On this day, our students will be in costume as we parade down to the Frederick Villa Nursing Care Center and present decorated pumpkins and personally designed greeting cards to the residents.

October 31st – Early Dismissal & Parent Teacher Conferences We will dismiss at 12:30pm on Tuesday as we welcome parents to our first trimester conference day.

November 4th – Spaghetti Dinner Come to the Activity Center on Saturday evening to enjoy a delicious plate of pasta and at the same time, provide support to our school.

Enjoy the Abundant Blessings of the Coming Week!
