Use spring break and summer to visit some colleges of interest

Consider things such as cost, location, size, and majors

View websites and email for additional information

Some private colleges & certain majors may still require SAT subject tests

Colleges use these scores to predict a student’s success in their freshman year.

Some colleges also use the scores for class placement and exemption purposes, helping identify appropriate courses for their incoming freshman.

Take the most challenging courses possible for YOU Read and write as much as possible & speak to your

English teacher for tips on improving your writing Become familiar with the tests’ format, directions, and

question types – PSAT, Bootcamps, Princeton Review Practice Test (Feb.6th at FHS)

Practice Books in your local library or bookstore Take prep/tutoring course in your community

Sophomore – Junior year build a list from anywhere from 6 – 20 schools

If you are having a problem building a list sit down with the college and career counselor after doing some research to get suggestions

Have at least 3 reach schools or “dream” schools, 3 slight reach schools, and 3 safe schools

Finalize your list to by senior your year to 5–10 applications

Class of 2017 will file for FAFSA October 2016

Scattergrams are a quick reference to see where you fall on the admissions scale …the use GPA and Test Scores to plot you.

You can base scattergrams on ACT or SAT test scores.

A Comprehensive List will help you keep on top of dates and deadline…. You can always add schools to your list and take schools off of your list.

By the summer prior to your Senior year, complete your BRAG sheet

The BRAG Sheet is what is used when asking for a letter of recommendation from your teachers and counselors

It helps them write a more personalized letter acknowledging you interests and accolades

Click on the “about me” tab to locate the FHS Brag Sheet, Click in the FHS Brag Sheet and begin filling it out. Make sure to answer all the questions, this document is used when asking teacher and counselors for letters of Recommendation

When you done working on your document, make sure to click on “Save & return later” This will allow you to update information.
