This is my sixth year teaching in the Barrington School District. I began my teaching career at Roslyn and so I am thrilled to return to the school I have always considered my home! This year we are going to have so much fun learning about weather, solids, liquids, and gases, autobiographies, famous leaders, story elements, living organisms, neighborhoods, and much, much more! It is going to be an action packed year, so rest up and come each day ready to learn and have fun. •On your desk you will find a memory box. Decorate it tonight at home and put three things inside that you would like to share with the class to help us get to know you better. Bring the memory box back tomorrow and you will have the opportunity to share it with our class sometime this week or next week. I look forward to finding out more about each and every one of you! •Get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast to make sure that you are ready to learn and have fun in first grade! •You can bring a healthy snack and a water bottle to school each day! •Back to School Night is Wednesday, August 28th •You can reach me at kclifford@barrington22 0.org or •847-756-2775 The first week in first grade is spent acclimating to the longer school day and classroom expectations and routines. We will be jumping right into our math curriculum, which will review some basic concepts that were touched on in Kindergarten. We will be spending some time each day touring the school with Hootie the Owl (our classroom mascot) and writing a class book about our adventure with him. We will also be learning about the 6 pillars of character (Respect, Citizenship, Fairness, Responsibility, Trustworthiness, and Caring) and how we can use these pillars each day inside and outside of Roslyn. We are going to have a blast!
