Find out what happened when Gideon met the extraordinary God of the Bible. As we dig deeply into the life of Gideon, we’ll find so much more than just an ancient story. We’ll discover truth that we desperately need to hear.

“From contents to cover, Hero is a brilliantly fresh look and study on Gideon ...aka loser boy! It’s down to earth, fun and inspiring reading for anyone.”

BATTLES CHRISTIANS FACE“I have been touched and encouraged by all the emails and letters I have received over the last five years from those who have written to say they have been helped in some way by Battles Christians Face.

“It is the most personal of my books, partly because as I wrote I had in mind many individuals who had given me the privilege of sharing in some of their struggles. It is also personal because I wrote out of my own experience.

“We all face battles in the Christian life, some of which are common to each of us, while others are shared only by a few. Of the many battles I could have written about I chose to focus on eight which, to a greater or lesser degree, I face myself.

“As I have tried to fight the good fight I have been greatly helped by the glorious truths of the gospel and the faithful friends who have applied them to me.

“We are not promised an easy path in this life but I can testify from my very limited experience of suffering, and my observation of his work in those who have suffered far more, that God is faithful and will never let His people go.”

Just Do SomethingKevin de Young RRP: £7.99 / 9780802411594

With over 125,000 copies sold, this short, pithy book is full of wise teaching about guidance.

Making decisions can be agonizing. Is this job God’s will for me? Should I wait for a sign before buying this house?

How do I know if he’s ‘the one’? Kevin DeYoung is convinced that if we trust God and read His Word, it doesn’t have to be

this complicated.

“Life is full of decisions we have to make, but which one is God’s will for us? Just Do Something challenges our pre-conceptions of understanding God’s will, suggesting that sometimes we need to get up and just do something. Got a life decision to make? This could be the book you need to read.”

The Pilgrim’s Progress John Bunyan

RRP: £5.99 / 9780883680964

John Bunyan’s story of ‘Christian’ and his journey to the Celestial City has become a literary classic. Now over three hundred years old, this allegorical tale of a believer’s life still rings true and has been a source of comfort and encouragement for thousands.

As you travel with Christian, you’ll recognise many of his struggles from seasons of your own Christian life: the Slough of Despond, the Valley of Humiliation and the infamous Vanity Fair. In this extract, we see Christian set free at last from his burden of sin and meeting some strange bystanders...

EXCERPT FROM CHAPTER THREE:

Now I saw in my dream that the highway, up which Christian

was to go, was fenced on either side with a wall, and that

wall is called Salvation. Up this way therefore did burdened

Christian run, but not without great difficulty, because of the

load on his back.

He ran thus till he came at a place somewhat ascending, and

upon that place stood a Cross, and a little below in the bottom,

a Sepulcher. So I saw in my dream, that just as Christian came

up with the Cross his burden loosed from off his shoulders, and

fell from off his back; and began to tumble, and so continued

to do, till it came to the Mouth of the Sepulcher, where it fell

in, and I saw it no more.

Then was Christian glad and lightsome, and said with a

merry heart, “He hath given me rest by his sorrow, and life by

his death.” Then he stood still a while, to look and wonder; for

it was very surprising to him, that the sight of the cross should

thus ease him of his burden. He looked therefore, and looked

again, even till the springs that were in his head sent the waters

down his cheeks.

Now as he stood looking and weeping, behold three Shining

Ones came to him and saluted him with “Peace be to thee.” So

the first said to him, “Thy sins be forgiven”: the second stripped

him of his rags, and clothed him with change of raiment; the third

also set a mark in his forehead, and gave him a roll with a seal upon

it, which he bid him look on as he ran, and that he should give it

in at the Celestial Gate. So they went their way.

Then, Christian gave three leaps for joy, and went on singing...

I saw then in my dream that he went on thus, even until he

came at a bottom, where he saw, a little out of the way, three

men fast asleep, with fetters upon their heels. The name of

the one was Simple, another Sloth, and the third Presumption.

Christian, then, seeing them lie in this case, went to them, if

peradventure he might awake them, and cried, “You are like them

that sleep on the top of a mast, for the Dead Sea is under you, a

gulf that hath no bottom. Awake therefore and come away; be

willing also, and I will help you off with your irons.”

He also told them, “If he that goeth about like a roaring lion

comes by, you will certainly become a prey to his teeth” With

that, they looked upon him, and began to reply in this sort.

SIMPLE: “I see no danger.”

SLOTH: “Yet a little more sleep.”

PRESUMPTION: “Every vat must stand upon his own bottom.”

And so, they lay down to sleep again, and Christian went

on his way.

Rediscover adventures in the Bible

Undated Bible Readings: Heroes Of The BibleRob HitchingsRRP: £3.99 / 9781910587232

This is a manageable devotional with undated Bible readings for those in their later years.

As it is undated there is no pressure to complete it in a set time. Each devotion starts with a Bible reading and covers a wide range of Biblical characters, mature in age, from both the Old and New Testament.

There was an interesting commentary on the background of each of the Bible passages and the devotions are very encouraging to remain faithful in our walk with God. I really enjoyed how it ended with a line from a well know hymn.

Shelley Webb,CLC London

Undated Bible Readings: EstherCarolyn LaceyRRP: £3.99 / 9781909611849

There are many things about the book of Esther that can seem unsettling.

A power-hungry dictator. A sordid beauty pageant. A scheming assistant. And not even a mention of God…

But look closer and the hand of God is present throughout the story. In strange circumstances, He is still at work to rescue His people.

In 30 devotions, Carolyn Lacey takes us through Esther with questions for reflection and application.

As you follow Queen Esther, find assurance in God’s mighty and unchanging character. God may seem silent in modern western culture, but He is sovereign.

Undated Bible Readings: DanielJustin MoteRRP: £3.99 / 9781906173685

Daniel didn’t exactly have a quiet life.

A national exile, a fiery furnace and a den of lions. Good thing God was in control.

Living and speaking for Jesus won’t guarantee us a quiet life in the 21st century either.

We may not meet any lions, but being a Christian will still be costly. In this reading plan, Bible teacher Justin Mote is our guide as we follow Daniel on his adventures in Babylon.

Play Through The Bible Alice BuckleyRRP: £8.99 / 9781909559196

Play through the Bible interview

We’re really excited about your book Play through the Bible. Could you tell us what we can expect?

Ooh, thanks! It’s a book full of ideas to help parents make the most of telling their kids about Jesus in those tricky pre-school years. It has 20 stories based on the Gospel of Luke, with ideas for interactive storytelling. With each story are lots of play ideas to help you keep thinking about Jesus and to make it easier for chat about God to be a natural part of life.

What gave you the initial idea for Play through the Bible and how has it developed since then?

It began as a way of sharing Jesus with our eldest son who has Down’s Syndrome and Autism. But it became obvious that it was just a natural way of communicating with all our children. Our kids love the very simple interactive stories.

We teach our children so many other things using everyday play; why should their discovery of Jesus be any different or any less fun? I remember wishing there was something out there with ready-made ideas for me to follow and when I didn’t find anything that was quite right I decided to create the resource myself.

Isn’t Bible-based play-time only for super-mums?

Oh absolutely – you should only buy the book if your house is as immaculate as your hair and you never hide in the kitchen to eat a biscuit 30 seconds after telling your children they’ve had enough!!

No, really the idea of the book is to make it as easy as possible for parents to share Jesus with their children. The play ideas are very simple and usually only require things you’ll have in the

house already. We play with our kids anyway so why not make those natural moments of play opportunities to discover more about God?

Are the activities in the book based on ideas you’ve had playing with your own children? And were there any you tried out with them that didn’t make it into the book?

Yes, most of them are activities we’ve tried or are based on the kind of things we do together. I suspect parents will be relieved I didn’t include my attempt at a recipe for bath paint – it came off the bath but the kids were a faint yellow for weeks!
