Guest Lecture- Recycling Electronic Waste for E-Clean India
23rd
January 2015
There is a little bit of e-waste in everyone’s life. Even a broken or dead
electronic item doesn't look like a scrap/waste. A typical laptop stored at
home has 90% probability of making its way to a landfill or being treated in
informal and hazardous way.
A guest lecture on “Recycling Electronic Waste for E-Clean India” was
organized by CII YI, Jaipur Chapter on 23rd
January 2015 in the AV Hall of
The IIS University. The speaker on the occasion was Mr. Prateek Goel.
Mr. Prateek Goel is a serial entrepreneur and a disruptive thinker. Starting his
entrepreneurial journey from a university dorm room with friends, over the
last five years, Prateek has successfully co-founded a Telecom Software
Product company, Teramatrix Technologies, catering to clients in India,
Bhutan and Africa - Ghana. Inspired to develop a Marketable Product in
Social Domain, he is currently steering ZeroWaste to be the pioneer in
Electronic Waste Management. ZeroWaste wants to be the "Simplest way to
dispose electronics waste" and is advocating E-Clean India, in sync with
Prime Minister's Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan. ZeroWaste creates an effective
channel of collecting dead electronic products and indulges into recycling.
Mr. Prateek enlightened the members about various harmful effects of
electronic waste, such as, a cell phone uses 65 elements and releases some of
the most toxic chemical if burnt. Burning electronic waste is a common act
performed in India by the Junk Dealers (Kabadis). The most important thing
the students realized was that they should not dispose e-waste by entrusting it
12
to Junk Dealers, instead, it should deposit it to a ZeroWaste branch or the
mobile stores associated with ZeroWaste.
It was a great learning and motivating session for students.

Workshop on “Civic Quotient”
2nd
February 2015
A workshop on Civic Quotient was organized on 2nd
February 2015 at The
IIS University, Jaipur.
The workshop was organized by CII YI Jaipur Chapter and Indian School of
Business (ISB) along with Bharti Institute of Public Policy under the 360
Degree Leadership programme. The workshop was jointly conducted
by Professor Rajesh Chakrabarti and Ms. Kaushiki Sanyal.
Professor Rajesh Chakrabart is the Executive Director of Bharti Institute of
Public Policy and Clinical Associate Professor at ISB. He has published
quality papers in several international research journals encompassing
Finance, Economics & International Business.
Ms. Kaushiki Sanya is a Senior Analyst at Bharti Institue of Public Policy,
ISB. She is leading the Legislative Research Initiative of the Institute.
The day long training involved following three tentative modules:
1. Why engage with policy making process?
2. What is the policy making process & points at which citizens can engage
with it?
3. Role of bureaucracy in public policy.
The purpose of this workshop was to educate the college students about the
basic percepts of parliamentary democracy so as to help them engage with
the political process & push for better policies and better governance. It is
14
important to channelize the upsurge of political activism in the urban youth in
such way that their actions are informed by the basic principles and processes
that underpin India’s parliamentary democracy. Otherwise it may cause more
harm than good in the long run because governments respond to populist
pressures.
The workshop was a great learning experience for all the Yuva Chaupal
members. Yuva Chaupal will always look forward for such learning and
enlightening workshops in times to come.

E-waste collection drive
26th
-28th
February, 2015
An E-waste awareness and collection drive was organized by members of IIS
Yuva Chaupal in the University campus from 26th
Feb to 28th
Feb 2015. The
idea behind this activity was to create awareness among Staff and students of
the University to a very important issue relating to Environment.
An effort was made by members for a cleaner, safer world by putting up
posters in the entire campus, visiting classes and educating students about E-
waste and its impact on environment. Also, an enquiry/collection desk was
set up by the members near E-Block on all three days. Some contribution has
been received by staff and students in the form of mobiles, keyboards,
remotes, calculators, printer etc. A small beginning has been made which
Yuva members shall take on further.
Earlier in Jan 2015, an E-waste collection centre was set up in Room No 403.
Students who now wish to deposit E-waste articles like discarded mobile
phones, laptops, computers and peripherals, and small electronic appliances
can submit it at the collection centre.
All the collected E-waste articles were handed over to an authorized E-Waste
Collector/Recycler in association with CII, Jaipur chapter.

defining yoga as “The Art of Calming the Mind”. Thus, Sunday morning of

various asans and vyayams were practiced. Going in deep, he also introduced
the participants and members with Yama and Niyama that defines the

peace, improved concentration power and a relaxed state of living.
Members of Yi Jaipur Chapter and YUVA Chaupals participated with great
enthusiasm and got acquainted with an invaluable gift of India’s ancient
tradition. They actually experienced how Yoga truly embodies unity of mind
and soul, thought and action and drives away all the stress of life.
Mr Suresh K Poddar, Chairman CII Rajasthan State Council, who was
