May Open Day We had a fantastic open day with our fabulous new look WOW refurbishment being unveiled by the Mayor and Mayoress of Stamford. Our head chef Tomasz put on an impressive spread and a huge cake to mark the event. We were entertained by the incredibly talented magician Ricky Locke and Rutland Rejuvenated choir plus amazing raffle prizes and stalls. We raised enough money for Clive to begin planning the indoor sensory garden for Memory Lane.
Meet our Chicks We were all very egg-cited when our Living eggs arrived. The residents and staff waited eagerly for them to begin to hatch and staff especially General manager Zoe were like proud parents as one by one the Chater chicks were born! We are now the owners of five wonderful hens and one extremely handsome Cockerel.

Visit from Ketton School Children We have begun a wonderful partnership with the Reception class children from Ketton School known as the Flamingo’s. They have started visiting us regularly with drawings and songs to share and have brought a lot of joy to our ladies and gents. We have asked them to name two of our chickens and we will be sharing arts and crafts and writing stories between us over the coming months.
We have been lucky enough to get six sessions at Foxdale Equine Facility in Oasby through the summer. These are for residents living with Dementia to allow them up close with some lovely and very gentle assisted learning trained horses and ponies. Our first two visits have been a huge success and we are always made very welcome by Tracy and her team. Veronica, Bet and Doris had a wonderful day with Gitana the huge, but ever so gentle, horse and rescued Dartmoor pony, Fearne. Bet, who has always wanted a horse, got stuck in with grooming.
The Rutland Poppy Project came to visit so we could make some clay poppies. These will be displayed alongside 10,000 poppies at Oakham castle in October 2018 to commemorate 100 years since the end of The Great War. A number of residents, staff and visiting relatives made a clay poppy, including Mary Ray who, at 106, was alive 100 years ago! We will take a trip to see our finished poppies in October.

Corn Exchange Theatre
We went on a trip to the Corn Exchange Theatre in Stamford to watch a production of Oklahoma. Diane, Cynthia and Joyce had a lovely afternoon of musical fun.
David, Bet, Diane and Margaret had a wonderful day out at Rutland Farm Park, where they got up close and personal with llamas, goats, pigs, horses, sheep and chickens.

Zoolab Returns!
Zoolab visited Chater Lodge with an array of weird and wonderful creatures to show us. 106 year old Mary was particularly taken with the corn snake. Activities Coordinator, Annabel also brought Leonard the bearded dragon into work with her recently. Eileen, who doesn't usually like reptiles, was particularly fond of Leonard because he was very laid-back.
Nice & Easy The wonderful group, 'Nice & Easy', came to
perform for us and were amazing. Some of our lovely ladies were serenaded by the rat pack-style singers and we all had a dance with lots of leg kicks to 'New York, New York'.

International Nurses’ Day We paid special tribute to all of our nurses on International Nurses' Day to thank them for their dedication to the residents and patients they care for in our homes and hospitals. CEO, Pete Calveley, made a special visit to Longueville Court Care Home in Peterborough on Friday 11th May, where he personally awarded each of the nurses with a branded water bottle as a token of appreciation for their contribution at the home, and to encourage nurses to stay hydrated.
Carer’s Week Chief Operations Officer, Adrian Pancott, made a special visit to Lakeside Care Home in Jersey on 12th June to personally award the Care Team with a Cadbury’s gift hamper full of chocolatey delights in recognition of Carer’s Week. Care staff across all of our homes and hospitals were presented with the Cadbury’s chocolate hamper as a token of appreciation for everything they do.
Red Oaks Rated ‘Outstanding’
A Few Words From Barchester…
Staff and residents at Red Oaks celebrated after their recent CQC inspection rating, where they scored an overall ‘Outstanding’ after being reviewed for a safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led service. The CQC inspected the home on 16th and 18th January (the report was released on 6th April) and rated the home as ‘Outstanding' in two key assessment areas (‘Caring’ & ‘Responsive’) and ‘Good’ in three (‘Safe’, ‘Effective’ & ‘Well-led’). Well done to everyone who made this possible!
