Charity Name: Domestic Abuse Women's Network (DAWN)

Contact Name: Brenda Chrystie, Development Director

Email: [email protected]: http://www.dawnonline.org

Phone: 425-656-4305 x 258

About the Charity:

DAWN has been committed to providing culturally relevant services to survivors of domestic violence since 1980. Started by two volunteers who were seeking services for a friend who was experiencing domestic violence, DAWN has grown over the past 30 years to offer a continuum of community and shelter based services throughout South King County. Today, DAWN remains the only non-profit agency located South King County that provides emergency confidential domestic violence shelter services. It operates one of only four such shelters in King County and accounts for about one-third of the total emergency, confidential domestic violence bed space in the entire County (25 out of 129 beds).

Project Description:

HELP! Our website is dated and we would LOVE help in figuring out how to incorporate social media, video and interactive elements into our website. For example, we have a Facebook page (created by an individual named 'Dawn') but aren't sure how to effectively coordinate a Business page, Group page, Causes, linking to our Twitter account and setting up a Twitter Cause... Where do we go from here? We would also like to have a page on our website that has a map of our service area (S. King County) where visitors to the site can scroll over one of the 9 different cities in our area and pop-ups with stats, success stories, startling facts, links to recent articles about domestic violence in those communities, etc.

We're not ready to change the look and feel of the website just yet - we need to do some branding exercises first. But maybe you can also help with mapping out a plan for that process?

Today, Faith in Action (FIA) is a dedicated team of trained volunteers and professional staff providing vital support and assistance to seniors facing the challenges of aging. FIA serves individuals who live in the Greater Issaquah, Sammamish and Snoqualmie Valley communities. We are devoted to serving isolated and low-income seniors. We seek to bring social and cultural healing to our community by providing relational and community resources that allow elderly residents to remain living independently and with dignity in their own homes. We mobilize volunteers to provide essential assistive services, and in so doing foster opportunity for human connection. We support clients in attaining individual dignity at all stages of life, recognizing that this allows for human connection and awareness of commonality across ages and cultures.

Charity Name: The Haitian Sustainable Development FoundationContact Name: Kathy McAllister

Email: [email protected]: 206-824-1267Website: http://www.sustainablehaiti.org

About the Charity:

Our non-profit was formed in 2003 by 3 return Peace Corps Haiti volunteers committed to continuing our community development projects. We were driven by the partnerships with local community groups and the relationships formed through working together solving issues in a challenging environment.

Our mission is to support community development throughout Haiti and to bring Haitian culture outside of Haiti to raise awareness and support.

Because of the devastating earthquake and subsequent disasters (hurricane and then Cholera epidemic) our work has intensified.

Project Description:

We are in critical need of a donor database. We currently have several different excel documents with donor history. We need one program that can track and segment our donors so that we can acknowledge their gifts accurately and have history to build new goals from. We grew since the earthquake from an annual budget of approx $5,000 to $40,000 this year. We are an all volunteer organization with myself and the executive director serving all functions. I am in Seattle and he is in Eugene OR and we need a way to mutually have access to current donor information. This will allow us to move into a new level of donor cultivation and our ultimate goal of diversifying our funding from individual donations to include grants.

Charity Name: Rotary First HarvestContact Name: DavidEmail: [email protected]: http://www. firstharvest.org Phone: 206.236.0408

About the Charity:Rotary First Harvest - a program of Rotary District 5030 (RFH) essentially serves as a non-profit produce broker, locating donations of fruits and vegetables from large scale growers and packers, then arranging to get those donations delivered to one of our primary partner organization's warehouses. Since RFH typically handles full truckload sized donations (e.g. 40,000 pounds of carrots, apples or potatoes) we partner with organizations like Food Lifeline and Northwest Harvest, which in turn distribute the produce to more than 400 hunger programs across Washington State. Last year, RFH delivered more than 13 million pounds of produce. In addition to our core work, RFH also develops localized gleaning and produce recovery models through our Harvest Against Hunger (HAH) program. HAH places AmeriCorps*VISTA volunteers at local food banks across the state to develop programs that take advantage of available resources within those communities. There are currently 10 Harvest VISTAs engaged in developing new programs.Project Description:We have three projects, but are unsure whether any are appropriate for Seattle GiveCamp:1) Creating a new website for RFH. Our current website is more than 9 years old, and while still functional, does not effectively relate the work of RFH. We hope to develop a new site using WordPress technology, and have already enlisted a former Microsoft employee and designer to create layered page templates using Adobe Photoshop. Our next step is to import the data from our current site into the new format and make the site live.2) Moving to the Cloud... RFH uses an old Access-based database to manage financial donation and volunteer labor donations. The database was created specifically for RFH's unique donor parameters (i.e. tracking donations made by individuals, while connecting those donations to both their work place as well as the Rotary Club they belong to). This database is functional, but limited, since it does not allow easy manipulation of reports and is resident on only one computer in the office. We would like to convert the information in this database to a "cloud-based" technology like Salesforce (we've been approved for 10 free licenses).3) Moving to the Cloud, part II... RFH uses a specialized Access-based database to manipulate all aspects of our food donations. This database is used to set up loads, as well as to track where the donation is from, how it is being delivered, where it is being delivered to and when the delivery has been completed. This database also generates manifests that list the date, donor name, pickup location, delivery/trucking company name, recipient organization name, delivery address and, when appropriate, return trip information (e.g. when trading loads of produce outside of Washington State). We currently need to be in the office to access the file server that houses the database and to "set up" donated loads. Ideally, we could move this database to a "Cloud-based" technology, which would allow staff to be more responsive and efficient. Skills needed:All skills we have during the event

Three Core Impact Areas: Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Good Character and Leadership

Project Description:Project: Site refresh for www.teenjobs.org Background: teenjobs.org is the website for YouthForce, a Boys & Girls Clubs of King County (BGCKC) teen employment recruiting website. The website is the one of the top page hit sites for teen employment in the country.

Project: Website SEO for Boys & Girls Clubs of King County – www.positiveplace.org and subdomain sites.

Background: Boys & Girls Clubs of King County (BGCKC) is a leading Seattle and Eastside non-profit that provides services to area youth in academics, healthy lifestyles and good character & citizenship. The primary website is at www.positiveplace.org, but there are additional websites (up to 12) that are subdomains of this site, e.g. www.ballard.positiveplace.org. Currently, these websites are not optimized for being found easily be search engines like Bing and Google. This project seeks to add code to each of the main domain and subdomain sites to be ‘finable’ on the web. Additionally, we would like to focus this initial effort on our summer camp programs for parents who are looking for summer camp opportunities for their children.

Charity Name: AlleyCat AcresContact Name: Sean Conroe

Email: [email protected]

Website: http://www. alleycatacres.com Phone: 702-686-5419

About the Charity:Alleycat Acres is a grassroots urban farming collective fiscally sponsored by Sustainable Seattle, a 501(c)(3) non-profit. Our mission rests in reconnecting folks with food through community run farms. In our first year (2010) we constructed two urban farms in the city and grew over 800 pounds of food -- the bulk of which was delivered by bike to the Beacon Ave Food Bank.

Currently, we're planning for year 2: 2 possible new farms, urban bees, rainwater catchment systems & drip irrigation systems are all areas we're hoping to bring onto our farm. All of this, however, is dependent on how much we can raise in our spring fundraiser. Let's hope for the best!Project Description:We are looking to have an iPhone app made in partnership with Solid Ground and possibly one other organization. Essentially, we are looking to create an app that can allow users to explore what it means to "grow" food here in Seattle.

This app would consist of a visual database of images (think how iTunes has the visual CD cover art gallery) that users could browse through and then tap to find out information about the selected crop (how to grow, etc.)

It would also then have an option to be searchable by MONTH or FAMILY NAME (brassica, etc).

The overall intent behind it is to make the app appealing to kids to learn about food but also friendly to adults that wanted a quick reference gardening guide. Skills needed:iPhone developers

Charity Name: Washington Poison CenterEmail: [email protected]: http://www.wapc.orgPhone: 206-217-2367

About the Charity: The Washington Poison Center, a 501c3 charity, provides 24/7 emergency treatment advices and information to the six million residents of Washington State free of charge (with the exception of pets). Our mission is to prevent harm from poisoning through expertise, collaboration, and professional and public education. We take over 85,000 calls for help per year and save people and communities health care dollars because we keep 93% of callers in their calling location and out of health care facilities.

Project Description:The Washington Poison Center (WAPC) is tasked with educating and protecting the six million residents of Washington State. We have many challenges: not many people know we are a non-profit and need donations; many people think we are a government agency and therefore do not donate; and many people simply don't know about our services and don't call.

Due to budget cuts, WAPC had to lay off all education/communication staff. It is highly doubtful we will be able to hire them back in the next two years. This comes at a bad time: more and more people are relying on the Internet for information, which is dangerous in a poison emergency but highlights the need for a very good web site. Even though we do not advocate treating by the web, we still need to provide easy access to information people need for protecting their families during non-emergencies. Our web site is poorly organized and very confusing (even for us to use!). We have great content, and a few years ago, our site was cutting edge among Poison Centers. As time moved forward we have cluttered it up with additional important content. With the additional changes in technology surrounding social media, the changes in raising funds online, the cuts to our budget and personnel, we are finding it difficult to keep up with the changes.

We simply need a new web site. We have staff that can populate a web site framework/design but need help with the framework/design to meet these new challenges in fundraising, education, and outreach.

We currently use Dreamweaver MX, which is five generations old. We host our own web site.

About the Charity: As a nonprofit agency, the Hearing, Speech & Deafness Center (HSDC) supports children and adults in realizing their full communication potential. HSDC programs and services help vulnerable and underserved populations - many facing significant barriers such as hearing loss or deafness, developmental delays or disabilities and who are low-income. By joining direct services with systemic change, HSDC creates inclusive, accessible communities. Our comprehensive services span the life cycle (infants through seniors) and consist of the following: Education, including our nationally recognized Parent-Infant Program, the Rosen Family Preschool, the Ned Behnke Speech Language Preschool and the Language to Literacy Program; Audiology & Hearing Aid Services; Speech, Language & Literacy therapy; Deaf & Hard of Hearing Services; and Assistive Listening technology through HSDCStore.com.

About the Charity:The Alliance of People with disAbilities is composed of two Centers for Independent Living in King County, Washington. At the Alliance, we work to make our community more accessible, inclusive, and usable for everyone. Our programs are open to people with all types of disabilities.

By law, the Alliance is required to have a minimum of 51% of the Board of Directors, management staff, and employees be individuals with disabilities. This ensures that people with disabilities are empowering other individuals with disabilities to understand their rights for inclusion and equality. It also guarantees that people with disabilities are the primary decision makers about the destiny of their own lives.

Our center places special emphasis on ensuring the civil rights of people with disabilities through its disAbilities Law Project and in empowering youth as they transition from high school to adult life. We also have a technology lab where individuals may test and use high tech equipment that may further abilities to enter or re-enter the work force.

Project Description:Proposal would be for an html template which would allow for prominent placement of logo, headline, subhead line, navigation, a sidebar, a donate now button, and opt out information. The donate button would link to a donation page like we give or PayPal.

If suggestions could be made for improving upon the process flow of making mass emails and synthesizing data that would be a plus. We are open to changing our system of delivery, right now we utilize salesforce.com, but would like to go to something that is easier to use and something that offers some data on the emails being opened and clicked on.

Skills needed:I'm about to transition my Access 2000 client database to SQL and need some help figuring out the steps to doing that most smoothly.

I have created this Access 2000 client database from the ground up and it is fairly complex. It has been limited to five users but I'm moving it to SQL Server so we can go to direct staff entry (instead of using a data entry person entering hardcopies) so the higher user load forces me to move to SQL Server, with which I have no experience. My IT support person can help us with the hardware and network issues, but the transition to SQL and programming in SQL Server is not in his skill set either.
