REFLECTIONIt wasn’t too long ago when we celebrated the coming of Jesus into our world as an infant. Small and defenseless, He enjoyed the protection of His Mother and Father and the security of their home in Nazareth. And today, we celebrate Jesus as an adult– baptized by John and ready to be sent out into the world as the Father’s beloved Son.
As we welcome the new year, we welcome as well this invitation to accept ourselves as God’s beloved also. This is the beginning and heart of all mission– that God is love and that He has chosen to love us first. This is the good news we seek to bring to the world, and especially in the world of young people and educators. But because the school is part of a larger social order, it too must find its link to the larger social realities that it helps to shape and in turn shapes its mission.
It is therefore necessary for us to be always ready to listen and accept this belovedness and to draw from it, the power and the strength to minister. We are but distributors of a gracious gift that we have received. Our joy is to find and build those places where this love is well-expressed. Our anger and impatience is for those places where the graciousness of this love is diminished. Those who have
accepted their belovedness know too well that the urge to share God’s love will necessarily lead them to leave behind every false security to welcome the wider world where God’s love must be made manifest. How ready am I to accept myself as the beloved of God? How have I allowed this love to challenge my false sense of security?

Nothing escapes the loving Presence of God. The Brother must be convinced of the loving Presence of God in his life, of the forgiveness God gives, and of the self-forgiveness that the Brother must give himself.
As the years go by, the Holy Spirit shows the Brother that few things are important, apart from the Presence of God and the needs of others.
The nature of the ministry of a Brother demand constant union with God. In the midst of the pursuits of everyday life, the Brother is to unite himself with God. It is this faith in God which brings Jesus to birth in the hearts of those who are evangelized by him. It is only through this faith that he will feel that he is a “minister and ambassador of Jesus Christ”.

ONE LA SALLE INITIATIVE FOCUSING ON SHELTER, FOOD, MEDICINES AND PSYCHOSOCIAL INTERVENTION FOR ‘PABLO’ SURVIVORS
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that the death toll from Tropical Cyclone Pablo (Bopha) reached 1,020 as of 30 December 2012. In its 5am report,
the NDRRMC also mentioned that at least 2,662 were injured while 844 remain missing. The NDRRMC noted the number of people affected by Pablo has exceeded six million, with 701,224 families or 6,203,826 people affected. Of these, 6,937 families or 27,813 people are still staying in 60 evacuation centers. The NDRRMC also said 63,040 houses were destroyed while 95,544 were damaged. Damage caused by Pablo was estimated at PHP 24,160,920,528.05, including:

Ophelia Fugoso AFSC, President of De La Salle John Bosco College (DLSJBC) Bislig, Surigao del Sur sent a letter of appeal to De La Salle Philippines (DLSP) asking for financial and in-kind donations. DLSJBC spearheaded the One La Salle Initiative for the Affected Families of Typhoon Pablo.
DLSJBC, through its Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (DRRMC), continued its Relief Delivery Operation (RDO) in the municipality of Lingig, the town that borders Surigao del Sur and hardly hit Davao Oriental. DLSJBC distributed 285 packs of relief goods to the affected families in Lingig at MSWD Building last 15 December 2012. They also distributed 162 relief packs to the affected families of Sabang, Lingig last 20 December 2012.

De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) and De La Salle University (DLSU) sent in-kind donations through DLS-CSB partner regional office of Citizens Disaster Response Center-MISFI.
De La Salle Andres Soriano Memorial College (DLSASMC) was able to collect 1,235 pcs. of canned goods, 885 packs of noodles and 68 packs of rice from the students, faculty and staff. The donations were sent through ABS-CBN Sagip Kapamilya.
180 boxes of assorted relief items (toiletries, clothes, noodles, water, medicines) were sent through the DLS-CSB partner regional center of Citizen’s Disaster Response Center-MISFI
DLSZ donated 180 pieces assorted toys and 560 pieces of story books and activity books. It was distributed on 13 January.
The DLSJBC “Bundles of Joy” effort raised PHP 89,443.40 for the victims. At present, affected families are also in need of light construction materials for their temporary shelters. Other materials such as old tarpaulins, plastic sheets, medicines, shoes and slippers, educational and food supplies for the affected families. You may drop off your donations at the South Gate of De La Salle University.
The De La Salle Philippines (DLSP)-Lasallian for Justice & Peace Commission (LJPC) National Coordinator, Ma. Lourdes F. Melegrito sent a team composed of DLSU and DLSU-D personnel to conduct Damage, Needs, and Capacities Assessment (DNCA) last 12 January, which will help evaluate the current situation and needs of the adopted communities to better coordinate activities for the One La Salle Disaster Management Program.

ST. LA SALLE ANIMATED FILM TO PREMIERE IN DLS-CSBFrère, De La Salle: Patron Saint of Teachers, an animated film inspired by the legacy of St. John Baptist de La Salle, will premiere on 17 January 2013, 4:00pm at the 5th Floor SDA Theater, School of Design and Arts Campus, De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.
The film was imagined and created by DLS-CSB animation students and faculty in collaboration with professional animators.

JOSEFINA H. ALBURO AFSC, BELOVED TEACHER AND PARTNER, PASSES AWAY AT 89Josefina Alburo AFSC, or Tita Feny as she was affectionately called in the Philippine Lasallian Family, passed away a few minutes before 9AM yesterday, 14 January, at the De La Salle University Medical Center.
Tita Feny started her service to the Lasallian community as a preparatory educator of De La Salle College (now DLSU) in 1952. She became the head teacher of the prep school in 1960. In 1964, she transferred to teach grade school. In 1974, she was appointed grade school vice principal then, four years later, became grade school principal in 1978. From 1987 until her retirement in May 2003, at the age of 80, Tita Feny served in the staff of the Office of the President.
Aside from teaching, her life has been spent in the promotion of the Signum Fidei, an organization of Lasallian lay people who share in the ministry of the Christian Brothers and undertake a mission of gospel ministry, nurtured by a life of private and shared prayer.She has been outstanding in imbibing the teachings and spirituality of our Founder, St. John Baptist de La Salle, that she was made an honorary member of the Brothers of the Christian Schools on 07 April 1988, as an affiliated member of the Institute.
For her lifelong work as a Catholic educator and her Service to Signum Fidei, Tita Feny was conferred the Papal Medal Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice (For the Church and the Pontiff) on 28 June 2003.
Interment will be from 14-16 January at the National Shrine of the Divine Child (NSDC), La Salle Green Hills.

She will be buried the following day on 18 January, 10am, at the De La Salle Brothers Memorial Cloister in De La Salle Lipa.
