Legislature creates and the Department of Education administers the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE).
Diploma Tied to CAHSEE2006—And Beyond
To receive a diploma, graduating seniors must pass the Math and English Language Arts sections of the CAHSEE.
Annually, on average, 48,000 still have not passed one or both portions of the CAHSEE by their Senior Year

Community College Chancellor’s Office offers $20 million in grants ($10 million in 2 years) to Community Colleges interested in serving graduating seniors who failed the CAHSEE.
30 Colleges applied in 19 counties. 39 counties have no grantees.
