First Be Reconciled to Your Brother

    Read Matt 5:23-25

There are three types of relationships in the Kingdom of God:

y Koinonia-fellowship-meaning sharing, contribution and participationIn contemporary terms, they can be the acquaintances that we meet in church, take

communion and pray together but not necessary know in an intimate way

y Kingdom partnership-relationships that are established by working together in the kingdomof Godnot necessary personal friendssuch as CAM members

y Covenant relationships-ps jono preached aboutclose friends who stick with you throughthick and thincell members

Conflicts, offence, misunderstanding are unavoidable is any close relationships. Here Jesus exhorts

us to make reconciliation our priority. In fact, according to these verses, reconciliation precedes

worship. Strained relationship can cause our worship to be hindered or rejected. The kingdom is

about the heart. The gift derives its value from the heart of the giver. You cant worship with a pure

heart when you have a soiled conscience.

Of cause there are situations when reconciliation is not possible e.g. the offended or the offending

party has died, is not willing to reconcile, etc.

For true reconciliation to take place, forgiveness is necessary. What is forgiveness or how do one

    forgive?

y Choose to change and move ony Express your emotiony Release the expectations you wanty Meeting needs in other waysy

Sort out boundaries. Only take responsibilities for yoursy Ask the Holy spirit to protect you from hurtful actions/attitudesy Receive Gods unconditional lovey Pray for the offendery See good in person or situation

Forgiveness is not an option as a Christian. In the parable of the unmerciful servant, when we refuse

to forgive, we can be subjected to oppression and torment. No matter how justified it is to hang on

to anger/bitterness, unforgiveness does not serve us, on the contrary, it harms our emotions, our

physical health and our spiritual walk.

    Discussions:

Do you have the three different types of relationships mentioned? Is there any lack and how can youintentionally build that type of relationship?

Think of an incident when your relationship with a brother/sister was strained or broken. What did

you do to restore the relationship? If you did not do anything to restore the relationship, share why

    was it so?

How you do define forgiveness personally?

Do you think forgiveness is an event or a process?

Share a testimony of how you find forgiveness over someone who had hurt you?

How can we learn to be more forgiving?
