Welcome back to Week 9 of Term 3! In last weeks newsleer I informed parents and carers that Individual NAPLAN Student Reports for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 would be distributed to parents and carers by the end of this month. I can confirm that reports have arrived and will be sent home with students today and each envelope will include the 2019 individual student report, a 2019 addi- onal student report and a leer to parents and caregivers. I am happy to announce that this year our schools NAPLAN results are very pleasing and connue our solid improvement over the past few years. The amount of students in the top two bands is above similar schools for Reading and Numeracy in all years and again in Wring, except for Year 7. In an outstanding result our Year 3 Reading and Numeracy and Year 5 Numeracy is above the enre state for the amount of students in the top two bands. When comparing students in bands, over me we are moving students out of lower bands and into higher bands, with less students in the lower bands and more in higher bands for Years 5, 7 and 9 in Reading and in Numeracy for Years 3, 5 and 7. There is sll some improvement in results to be had for Years 7 and 9 in Grammar and Punctuaon, but we are heading in the right direcon and students and staff should be proud of these results. Congratulaons. Student Footwear In this weeks newsleer there is informaon on acceptable footwear for secondary students. Due to WHS procedures, especially in metalwork, woodwork and food technology subjects, students HAVE to wear fully enclosed leather, lace-up, buckle or fastened shoes covering the whole of the foot. Elasc side work boots, such as Redbacks, are acceptable to be bought to school to wear into praccal subjects, but should not include steel capped toes. Unfortunately secondary students with the incorrect footwear are unable to parcipate in praccal subjects. Please see the photographed examples in the aached informaon. Primary Effort Reports At the end of next week parents and carers of primary students will again receive a Student Effort Report. This is a new iniave to improve our reporng to parents and carers. This does not replace the Semester One and Two student achievement reports, but is aimed to provide informaon to parents on how their child is faring in subjects, lessons and rounes. Welcome back to Week 9 of Term 3! In last week’s newsletter I informed parents and carers that Individual NAPLAN Student Reports for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 would be distributed to parents and carers by the end of this month. I can confirm that reports have arrived and will be sent home with students today and each envelope will include the 2019 individual student report, a 2019 addi-tional student report and a letter to parents and caregivers. I am happy to announce that this year our school’s NAPLAN results are very pleasing and continue our solid improvement over the past few years. The amount of students in the top two bands is above similar schools for Reading and Numeracy in all years and again in Writing, except for Year 7. In an outstanding result our Year 3 Reading and Numeracy and Year 5 Numeracy is above the entire state for the amount of students in the top two bands. When comparing students in bands, over time we are moving students out of lower bands and into higher bands, with less students in the lower bands and more in higher bands for Years 5, 7 and 9 in Reading and in Numeracy for Years 3, 5 and 7. There is still some improvement in results to be had for Years 7 and 9 in Grammar and Punctuation, but we are heading in the right direction and students and staff should be proud of these results. Congratulations. Student Footwear In this week’s newsletter there is information on acceptable footwear for secondary students. Due to WHS procedures, especially in metalwork, woodwork and food technology subjects, students HAVE to wear fully enclosed leather, lace-up, buckle or fastened shoes covering the whole of the foot. Elastic side work boots, such as Redback’s, are acceptable to be bought to school to wear into practical subjects, but should not include steel capped toes. Unfortunately secondary students with the incorrect footwear are unable to participate in practical subjects. Please see the photographed examples in the attached information. Primary Effort Reports At the end of next week parents and carers of primary students will again receive a Student Effort Report. This is a new initiative to improve our reporting to parents and carers. This does not replace the Semester One and Two student achievement reports, but is aimed to provide information to parents on how their child is faring in subjects, lessons and routines.

Spring Concert A reminder that this year’s Spring Concert will be held at the Coleambally Community Club on Thursday, 26 September 2019, commencing at 1.00 pm. Primary teachers have been sending notes home with students requesting parent assistance in having their child dressed in the appropriate costume for their performance and students have been busy rehearsing their items for what should be another outstanding concert. Stage 3 Canberra Excursion Stage 3 students depart for their excursion to Canberra bright and early tomorrow morning! Highlights will include visits to the National Film and Sound Archive, Black Mountain Tower, the National Museum of Austral-ia, the Australian War Memorial, the Australian Institute of Sport and Parliament House. Parents will be kept informed with regular posts on our school Facebook page, which will also be used to confirm our estimated time of arrival on return, which is scheduled for 7.30 pm on Friday. VET Placements This week Primary Industries VET students are participating in work placements as part of their mandatory 70 Hour Work Placement. The addition of Primary Industries to our curriculum in the school has been a great suc-cess, with Mrs Fattore providing engaging activities for students to complete in order to achieve the relevant competencies. Last week students commenced fencing in the school farm as part of Competency AHCINF202 - Install, maintain and repair farm fencing, with assistance from a Waratah Fencing representative. 2020 School Captains It is again that time of year when we commence the election process for 2020 School Captains. Year 11 students have been provided with copies of the Student Leadership Policy and the nomination process. Nominations closed on Monday, 16 September 2019 and a special assembly will be held at 9.00 am on Tues-day, 24 September 2019 for students to present their Captain’s Speeches. After this students will be asked to cast their votes and the 2020 School Captains will be announced at the conclusion of the Year 12 Graduation Assembly on Friday 27 September. ICAS Competitions The last ICAS competition for 2019 will take place today, with students sitting the Mathematics competition. This is a few days earlier than scheduled to allow for Year 5/6 students going on the Canberra excursion to complete the assessment. School Principals will be notified by email when reports and certificates are availa-ble online in the UNSW Global Results and Reports Portal and printed student certificates will be sent out approximately two weeks after the results appear online. Finally…. I am looking forward to spending some quality time with students this week while on the Year 5/6 excursion to our nation’s capital, Canberra. Please contact the relevant Executive Team member for any enquires in my absence this week. Our door is and always has been open – whether you are happy, sad or mad. We need to know if we are not doing something right, but I also need to know that you trust our motives and intentions. Everything we do, every single day is for YOUR children. Until next week,

Timothy Allen Principal

Coleambally Central. It was once again an enjoyable

day for all with all students and staff getting right into

the footy spirit. The SRC would like to thank all who

kindly helped donate to the Fight Cancer Foundation

to help kids with cancer. We are pleased to say we

raised $205 which is a great achievement by our

school. Well done everyone!

Regional Spelling Bee

Last Thursday on the 12th of September Xavier Jones and Andrew Fattore

represented our school in the regional spelling bee competition at

Griffith East Public School.

We had some difficult words and there were heaps of others students in our stage 2 group. We enjoyed the spelling bee

and made it to the level 5 wordlist and this is where we both got out.

Hopefully we can do it again next year.

By Andrew Fattore.

Cooper Payne and Tayla DeMamiel represented the stage 3 group in the senior regional spelling bee competition. I got

out on the level 5 wordlist and Cooper got out on the level 3 list.

It was a great experience and I enjoyed competing against all the other school students around the Riverina.

Thanks Miss Lyons for organising and the parents for taking us.
