Kindergarten crimes expect the unexpected By: Grace B. Ilalim

1Pupils may deeply touch your life and you can touch their life too that sometimes brought changes your views into life. Background of the study

New Barbacan Elementary School has its kindergarten for more than five years but I start teaching only this year. Teaching kindergarten is a very challenging task for me as a teacher.Different learning styles, behavior and individualities of learners you will encounter.

Statement of the problem Short learning attention / style of learning Learners easily get bored to one activity where they used to draw anything without following your instruction. They do different task which sometimes makes me angry. Copying and placing the paper in the blackboard which causes noise for some pupils who couldnt see on their seats.

Notice the difference?

Eating junk foods instead of healthy foodsWe dont need to worry if learners didnt listen to us, we should worry for they are watching us. Teachers should also practice what she teaches. It will encourage learner to continue what we have shared and taught to them. I want to inculcate to learners to eat healthy foods. One afternoon while waiting other pupils to come, I decided to eat some chichiria- tattoos. One of my pupil in my afternoon class told me maam why are you eating like that you tell us its bad to our health. So I am shocked for what he say. I dont know what to say now . I kept my junk food and never eat junk food in front of them . And, I notice that most of the children buy junk foods- candies, chichiria.

Analysis Because of what had happen every recess time, I never show of eating junk foods again. I am now encouraging them to eat minatamis na saging, banana cue and palitaw. You help learner to be healthy as well as you as a teacher. (Albert Banduras theory of modeling the goods things we want them to learn. )Four phases of observational learning attention , retention, motor reproduction processes, motivational processes

Practices during the art activities Kindergarten is the level where most of the time learners engage to arts- drawing, coloring and cutting. In my class, I requires learner to have their art envelope. The problem is they are careless to their things. Children just scattered the materials and doesnt keep it after the activity. Some of the art materials are missing. They now start to cry.

Sample activities

After doing the activities let them paste their work to your prepared manila paper

It is also a show case of their achievement for every session they have

Allow them to whatever they want to design to their work.Pupils behavior Last August, I encountered situation in my kindergarten class who really makes me feel sad. I have this pupil named Don King Richman Joel M. Gabuco who always roaming around making his classmates feels irritated. While his classmates doing activity, he go around and pull his classmates chairs where most of them get hurt, get his classmates pencil and throw it. And the most bother me is that when I let him to go to his seat he says bad words such as t**g i*a and baboy ka!!!!

Analysis If I notice that my learners are not paying attention or became restless. I provide games where it is related to the topic for that day. And let them sing an action song or I will tell a story. When they are writing I allow them to go in front to where ever they like to seat or write.

Cognitive development theory Jean PiagetPre- operational ( 2-7 years)imaginative, symbolism ( images and language)

Thorndike's theory of connectionism allow them to adjust in starting a lesson you should know if they are ready for your lesson Montessori child centered where in they are allowed to manipulate things that contribute to their learning

13Visual discrimination with the letter sounds

This will help them to create meanings to the different things around them You need to start teaching from basic.Continuous Practice - writing the correct strokes for their names (classical conditioning discrimination of different letters and sounds also )

Make them feel going to school is to enjoy ..

.and making friends.Let them learn in many ways

Classroom designs may help to child's learning

Consider the enjoyment of learners to your visual materials Classroom setting

Make your classroom attractive Make visuals that is very useful

Exhibit their works , your room should be design by their activity. analysisI showed, taught and trained my pupils before the activity they should not get other thing. You can borrow but you need to give it back to the owner. After the activity, they should clean and keep their things, check if it is complete and if not report it to teacher; and place it to the box. So every time we have an activity they practice what they should do and what are not to do. If other dont have crayons I have some for them.(constructivism where learners can practice and apply what they have learned. )

During activity

Analysis What I have done is that I didnt ignore it and make urgent action. I go to him and said it is bad and set example if ever he is the one who got hurt. What he will do? Let him not to do it again after that I asked the rest of his classmates if it is right to do such things. Give also the emphasis on letting them know it is not right. Asked also learner what should you do if do some bad things to your classmate. Let them say sorry facing to his classmate. In the whole class, I say to them that we should not say bad words to others- classmates, teachers and other people around them; and let them know the value of respect. Having more friends is happier than having none.Parents have the great impact of the Childs development because I believe they are first teacher who molds them for being what they are. I talked to his mother but it seems very normal to them the things happen. So I decided it is in my hand now to let him not to say bad words.

( reversed psychology)Lev Vygotsky (social development) allow them to interact with other children The moral development theory- Lawrence kohlberg ( level one preconventional morality 0-9 yrs. punishment obedience orientation determine goodness and badness (mutual benefit)

Recommendation More of the learning is in form of attitudinal where they can use it in everyday life. More activities where learners can participate well but be sure if its meaningful, appropriate and authentic content where learners can use it in their daily living. The teacher can use story telling, puzzles, games and pantomime, involve learners to artworks where they can enjoy much.Teacher also need to consider Multiple intelligence of the learners. You can never forced children what to do, they are at the stage of discovering their strength and weaknesses.Consider the learning style/ thinking of our learnersThe teacher may change the way of doing things so that there will be a change of behavior on the part of the learnersPatience is needed to control different occurrences Never forget to appreciate your learner- very good Let him feel that you stand like his parentsOnce you make promise, does it!

Home visitation School designs should be value- orientedLove your profession and later the fruit of all your effort will be appreciated. We are here to let them learn even they dont want to.

Thank you for listening!!!!
