Caring for residents with a g-tubeCaring for a g-tube is not considered a sterile procedure and can be incorporated into a normal daily caretaking routine. The skin around the tube should always be kept clean and dry to prevent the buildup of moisture and debris that may cause skin irritation and complications such as hypergranulation and infection.

A daily check of the stoma site should include the following:

Check the stoma site and skin for redness and swelling

Check around the tube for excess skin growth

Check the stoma site for frequent and/or large amounts of leakage
