Candidate Brief
Digital Manager
May 2019
2
Dear Candidate
I am delighted that you are interested in the post of Digital Manager.
This is a key post in a well established and experienced
communications team, but you will work with all teams across the
organisation.
CARE is an effective and innovative organisation to work for. We fight poverty and injustice
in the world’s most vulnerable places. We save lives in disasters and conflicts. We stand
with women, girls and their communities to achieve lasting change for a better future.
As a confederation, CARE works across more than 90 countries around the world. In 2018
CARE and partners reached nearly 56 million people directly through 965 development and
humanitarian aid projects. CARE also reached 340 million people indirectly through its
advocacy efforts, the replication of successful programs and scale-up of innovations.
CARE International in the UK (CIUK), contributes an enormous amount to the global work,
but is a relatively small organisation of around 120 staff. One of my favourite things about
CIUK is that we work in a medium sized organisation in the day-to-day, so you can make a
huge difference in your role, bring your own initiatives and ideas and make them happen at
the same time as being part of an incredible global impact. We make things happen in a
relatively short amount of time.
When a humanitarian crisis hits, we need to be ready to work quickly and deliver emergency
communications and appeals within a few hours. So we are looking for someone who is
flexible and thrives when faced with a change of plan!
This is a key post at an exciting time: you will scope a new website; finalise a digital strategy;
and recruit a new digital officer who you will manage.
We are looking for someone creative with a solutions focused, hands on approach. We
hope you can bring your passion for digital communications to ensure CARE delivers
stand-out, results-oriented, audience-driven content across our digital channels.
If you are pro-active and have the skills and experience we are looking for, and you share a
passion for fighting poverty and social inequality, please don’t hesitate in applying now.
Thanks for your interest,
Hannah Richards
Head of Communications

Background Information
CARE International – a global organisation fighting poverty around the world
CARE International operates in more than 90 countries. We run
poverty-fighting programmes and deliver life-saving emergency aid
in 79 developing countries around the world. This is supported by
the global policy and advocacy work, fundraising, and programme
management provided by CARE offices in countries like the USA
and the UK.
CARE International UK (CIUK) was founded in 1985 and we are one of 14 full members of
the global CARE International federation. CIUK also provides specific expertise in the areas
of women’s economic empowerment, inclusive governance, humanitarian response
(particularly shelter, and gender in emergencies), and engaging with the private sector. We
play a key role in CARE’s work engaging with and influencing policy-makers and decision-
makers to tackle the structural causes of poverty and social injustice.
CARE’s programmes are implemented through CARE country offices which are supported
with technical assistance and programme management by CARE members (including
CIUK). We work in partnership with local organisations to deliver many of our programmes.
CARE is non-religious and non-political, allowing us to deliver humanitarian and
development assistance to anyone in need regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, age,
religion, political view or sexual orientation.
You can find out more about our current strategy here.
