Michael Zaugg

Since moving to Canada, Swiss nativeMichael Zaugg has distinguished himselfas an innovative and versatile conductor onthe national choral scene. 2012-2013marked the start of Michael's tenure asArtistic Director and Principal Conductorwith Pro Coro Canada in Edmonton. In2009 Michael founded the MontrealChoral Institute whose in-house choir,Voces Boreales, (founded in 2006) hasbeen featured in the Montreal InternationalBach Festival, the NAC eXpressionsMusic Series as well as on CBC Radio 2. Michael served as Artistic Director of boththe St. Lawrence Choir in Montreal (2007- 2013) and the Cantata Singers of Ottawa(2005 - 2014) and prepared the CantataSingers for their appearances with theNational Arts Centre Orchestra. As GuestChorus Master of the OrchestreSymphonique de Montréal, Michaelsuccessfully prepared groups of up to 1500singers for OSM Artistic Director KentNagano. Active also as a Guest Conductor,Michael Zaugg has worked with theGRAMMY-nominated Choir of TrinityWall Street (NYC), Halifax Camerata,Musica Intima, l'Orchestre Symphoniquede Longueuil, and the Ontario and theNova Scotia Youth Choirs. He has beenGuest Lecturer at Brandon University,University of Alberta and McGillUniversity and has worked with provincialchoral federations in Nova Scotia, NewBrunswick, Ontario, and Alberta.

Robert Filion

Robert Filion is a Franco-Ontarian who hasdirected the De La Salle Vocal Ensemblesfor over 20 years. Mr. Filion is a sought-afterguest conductor and clinician. He hasdirected the New Brunswick Youth Choirand more recently, the Alberta Youth Choir.Mr. Filion is honoured to have been awardedthe Prime Minister’s Award for TeachingExcellence last November. He is undertakinghis fifth year as artistic director of theUnisong Festival, a gathering of Canadianchoirs who perform on the National ArtsCentre stage every Canada Day.

Assistant conductor of Cantata Singers ofOttawa, Amy Henderson has worked closelyfor several years with Michael Zaugg, thedirector of Cantata Singers, voces boreales,and Pro Coro Canada. Amy is devoted toencouraging choral excellence andinnovation, and creating opportunities forsingers of all ages to be exposed to the joy ofchoral music-making.A graduate of McGill (B. Mus., B. Ed.), andMemorial University of Newfoundland (M.Mus.), Amy Henderson has been generouslysupported and educated by the Canadianchoral community, including invaluableexperiences as Assistant Conductor ofConcerto Della Donna (Iwan Edwards), theEMSB Chorale (Patricia Abbott) and LaCeilagh (Nicholle Andrews).Amy is the founder and Director ofSeraphim, a dynamic 18-voice ensemble ofmixed adult voices, and Director of thewomen's choir Les Muses Chorale. She alsodirects the McGill Conservatory Youth Choirand the Children's Choir which serves astheir training ensemble. 2013-2014 marks the 33rd season since theinception of Pro Coro Canada of Edmonton,one of Canada’s few professional chamberchoirs. Founded in 1980 by CanadianMichel Marc Gervais, the twenty-four voiceshave been shaped by some of the finestchoral conductors in the world, includingArtistic Directors Michel Marc Gervais(Canada), Anders Eby (Sweden), SørenHansen (Denmark), Agnes Grossmann(Austria) and Richard Sparks (USA). Since2012, Michael Zaugg has been their ArtisticDirector and Principal Conductor.Pro Coro Canada is a resident ensemble atthe Francis Winspear Centre for Music, oneof North America’s finest concert halls. Robert Filion is a Franco-Ontarian who hasdirected the De La Salle Vocal Ensemblesfor over 20 years. Mr. Filion is a sought-afterguest conductor and clinician. He hasdirected the New Brunswick Youth Choirand more recently, the Alberta Youth Choir.Mr. Filion is honoured to have been awardedthe Prime Minister’s Award for TeachingExcellence last November. He is undertakinghis fifth year as artistic director of theUnisong Festival, a gathering of Canadianchoirs who perform on the National ArtsCentre stage every Canada Day.

Michael Zaugg has distinguished himself asan innovative and versatile conductor on theCanadian choral scene. He is the founder andArtistic Director of the Montreal ChoralInstitute, an umbrella organization for theadvancement of choral education. As ArtisticDirector of the St Lawrence Choir ofMontreal, he leads an innovative andwell-respected concert series with theensemble. Since 2007, he has worked asInterim Chorus Master with the MontrealSymphony Orchestra, for which the St.Lawrence Choir is the core amateur chorus.With the Cantata Singers of Ottawa, MichaelZaugg has been performing as ArtisticDirector since 2005. In addition to conductingthe choir's regular concert series, he alsoprepares them for their appearances with theNational Arts Centre Orchestra. In 2006,Michael Zaugg founded Voces Boreales, a20-voice group specializing in contemporarya cappella music. This Montreal ensemble hasalready appeared in the NAC eXpressionsMusic Series and the Montreal InternationalBach Academy, and has been featured onCBC Radio 2. On the national choral scene,he has also worked with the HalifaxCamerata, the Vancouver Chamber Choir,Thirteen Strings, the Nova Scotia YouthChoir and Musica Intima. In February, 2012,Michael Zaugg was appointed ArtisticDirector and Principal Conductor of theprofessional choir Pro Coro Canada ofEdmonton.
