Year 10 Work Experience Last week all of our year 10 students were off site to gain some fantastic work experience skills, placements included Wattl, The Lowry, Actors Lab, Dock 10 to name but a few! Some students even travelled across the country down to London and up to Scotland for their work placements!

Will said "The week of work experience was really beneficial to me, it has opened my eyes on what the world of work is really like"

Lynne Loughnan, Careers and Work Experience Coordinator said "Offering a week placement for Year 10 students gives the students an insight to working environments and just how many jobs and skills there is out there!"

Summer Open DayOur Summer Open Day on Sunday 7th July saw over 500 people visit our building to find out about the courses we offer, see our state of the art facilties and meet our staff and student! Blackpool Pleasure BeachYesterday we rewarded our Year 10 students by taking them to Blackpool Pleasure Beach for a day of fun, thrill and sun!

Live Studio ShowsThis week, Year 12 have been filming their Live TV shows as part of their BTEC course with us, students got to play the role of many industry jobs such as scriptwriter, autocue, floor manager, vision mixer, graphics designer, director and so much more!

Year 12 London ResidentialA group of our Year 12 BTEC TV & Film students are currently down in London visiting the Warner Bros Harry Potter Studios, Ravensbourne University and The British Film Institute, Adam in Year 12 said "Having the chance to visit an iconic studio set that links to my course in college is brilliant".

Urban Plan Workshop On Monday 8th July our Year 10 students took part in an Urban Planning day.

UrbanPlan is a realistic, engaging, and academically demanding classroom-based programme in which students learn about the fundamental forces that affect urban regeneration.

It is an educational initiative developed by the Urban Land Institute, UrbanPlan has been running successfully in high schools in the US for over 15 years – reaching over 43,000 students and enabling more than 1,500 ULI members to share their experiences in land use. It brings the urban environment to life for young people through a series of interactive workshops and team working challenges.

UTC@MediaCityUK were chosen to take part in this fantastic day and were joined by industry experts from Legal and General who supported our students throughout the day and judged their final presentations.

Year 12 Next Steps DayWe are organising a ‘Next Steps Day’ for our current Year 12 students and their parents

Thursday 18th July 9am - 3:30pm at UTCMediaCityUK.

The aim of the day is to inform students and their parents about their next steps when they leave us.

We will have a selection of higher education providers talking about the UCAS process

How to apply to UniversityHow to write a personal statementStudent finance

Year 12 students will have the opportunity to sign up to UCAS and start their personal statement with support from University staff during the afternoon workshops.

We know that not everyone wants to go to University after they leave us so we have invited local employers to come in to talk about apprenticeship opportunities in MediaCity and Manchester.

The Business Growth Hub are also coming in to talk to students about how to set up their own business and going freelance.
