These Girl Scouts are having a good time as they’re doing a really nice job on con-structing a scarecrow.

Portledge School’sGirl Scout Troop 67had a fun meeting cre-ating three scarecrowsto enter into the Lo-cust Valley Chamberof Commerce HarvestFestival ScarecrowContest. The threeadorable scarecrowswere each created torepresent the differentbranches of theirtroop, Daisies, Brown-ies and Juniors. Partic-ipation in the con-test benefits the Lo-cust Valley Chamberof Commerce Beauti-fication Fund & NorthShore INN, a Long Is-land soup kitchen.Portledge Troop 67

has 28 members thisyear from a variety ofschools and surround-ing towns, includingPortledge, GreenVale, Glen Cove, Jeri-cho, Locust Valley, and Oyster Bay. Theseyoung girls, ages 5 to 10, are looking for-ward to many more community events that

help teach them about community service,helping others and working cooperativelywith their fellow Girl Scout sisters.

Portledge Student PerformsAt All-State Music Festival

Portledge Music Department Head, Patricia Baehr, announced the participation ofa student musician at the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA)77th annual winter conference in Rochester.Senior Anna Ticker performed with the All-State Mixed Chorus in the University of

Rochester’s Eastman Theater on Dec. 2. Consideration was given to Anna based on herperfect score in the NYSSMA Spring Evaluation Festival. More than 3,000 studentsacross the state auditioned for the eight Honors Ensembles featured at the conference andfewer than 900 musicians were selected and only 263 performed in the Mixed Chorus.Anna participated in three days of intense rehearsals under the direction of Rollo

Dilworth. The All-State concerts were performed in front of a crowd of music teach-ers, family and friends. Anna is a veteran soprano in the Portledge Upper SchoolChorus, a member of both the Concert Band and Woodwind Ensemble, and was lastyear’s Lucy in the Upper School production of Charlie Brown.
