School Camp: School Camp is just over a month away and we need to finalise numbers and make payments to the camp for this whole school activity. We would ask all families to make their final payments as soon as possible and return any outstanding forms. Your co-operation in this matter will be greatly appreciated. Please remember that final payment for camp is due on Friday, 3 rd November. (Total cost of camp is $385). An information meeting for camp is organised for this coming Monday, 30 th October, following our whole school assembly. At this meeting a general overview of the camp activities will be given plus important information regarding medication that families need to organise prior to students going on camp. There will also be ample opportunity for parents and friends to ask questions regarding any aspect of this year’s camp to Kangaroobie. Kinder Visits: Once again as part of the schools kinder to Foundation Transition Program our foundation teachers have been busy visiting the various Kindergartens and Early childhood Centres that our students come from. This is an extremely beneficial program for both our foundation teachers and our new foundation students. Horses, admire but don’t touch! Cardinia Primary school is situated in a rural setting, largely surrounded by farms and livestock. Families and students are reminded that they shouldn’t feed these animals or enter their paddocks without obtaining permission from the owners. The horses immediately next to the school are thoroughbreds and in training for racing, as such can be flighty and temperamental. Giving them cut grass or other items of food could be quite harmful to them. Free Dress Day Friday: Just a reminder that children are able to participate in a ‘Free Dress Day’ this Friday in support of Animal Welfare Protection Society in Keysborough for a donation of $2.00. This event is being organised and conducted by one of our past students as part of her school project. Sunsmart hats still need to be worn as part of this activity. DATES TO REMEMBER October: Thursday, 26 th Life Education Program concludes. Meal Deal: Salad Wrap and M&M Biscuit – $4.00. Grade 5/6 Hoop Time On Monday, we had 2 teams represent Cardinia Primary in the Regional Finals of Hoop

Time, in the ‘All Stars Division’. We had qualified for this by winning our District Hoop Time

Competition last term. The standard of competition was very strong and our teams

acquitted themselves fantastically well, only to miss out on the playoff game by

percentage. A huge thank you must go to Mr Bianchin and Ms Slegers for coaching the

teams and to the parents for supporting us again. Well played Cardi!

MODEL AIRFIELD CATERING HELPERS NEEDED

Parents’ Club has been asked to cater a function at the Model Airfield in Wenn Road, Cardinia on Saturday, 11th and Sunday 12th November. As this is one of the many ways we raise funds for the school, we are asking for some helpers to assist in the canteen. If you can spare 2-3 hours in the morning or afternoon on this date, please call Sharon (0416 245 924) or speak to Virginia or Sue in the office. We also need people to make cakes and slices to sell on both these dates. Please see Sharon if you can help.

JUNIOR CROSS COUNTRY RUN

CONGRATULATIONS to all the runners who participated in our annual Junior Cross Country Run. After a hot day on Wednesday and rain on Thursday, the weather-man promised a nice day of 17o, with blue skies and a hint of clouds as our only forecast obstacle. True to his word the day started as a warm spring day leading into our Cross Country Run. The course was set and there were close to 150 eager students ready to battle the rough terrain. For 20 minutes the students ran laps of the school. After a warm up, the year 2 boys were set off first at the starting line. The Junior School teachers are pleased with the determination by all students who did their best on such a challenging course. We had students who complete up to 8 laps. Wow! The biggest thank you is reserved for the parents who came to watch and help. Without the parental help we would not be able to run an event like this. It was great to see so many parents involved and watching. It was also great to see that parents were brave enough to run a lap or laps around the course. Finally, each student has received a certificate and a ribbon with a record of the laps they completed. From Junior School Teachers

‘It’s In The Bag’

Share the Dignity is a charity for homeless women and their children. ‘It’s In The Bag’ is a drive to

provide women with things they need and some little luxuries. A handbag will be filled with

toiletries and special things for Christmas.

Mrs Chidlow is collecting items to make some bags for people in need. If you can donate something you have at home or can grab something extra while shopping, please take it to the BER building. Some suggested items include: Handbags or bags suitable for a teenage girl in good condition. Brand new toiletries, shampoo, toothbrush/toothpaste, deodorant, hairbrush, makeup, jewellery or books, magazines etc. More info can be found on the website: https://www.sharethedignity.com.au/

Chaplain's Corner

When my children were pre-schoolers I had a lot of enjoyment watching them copy me. If I spoke on the phone, they would 'talk' on a toy phone. We read stories to our children, one of them, on her first birthday, opened a book upside down and made a lot of talking noises – though none of them made sense! Even now, my children still like to copy - My 8 year old wants to learn to cross-stitch because that is what I do on holidays. As my children have become older they have their own personalities but have chosen what they copy and it is not always cute, good or helpful. My 14 year old likes to try bossing her younger siblings because I, as their mother, have been able to tell them what to do. My 14 year old gets grumpy because it doesn't work for her and she is still working out that she doesn't have as much authority as mum! As parents, we have a huge responsibility and hard job training our children in how they should relate to others but if we are not good examples ourselves it will backfire. So I have some deep questions for you all to think about. What kind of adult do I want my child to be? Am I that kind of adult? What things do I do that I don't want my child to do? Can I change that?

Have a great week! Cherida

Grade 4 students made a pet rock then could select which text type they would like to write about. Students wrote a narrative, a recount, a report or a

procedural text.

Sweet Sour Strawberry Strawberry likes to sleep a lot on the bed. She likes to eat carrots with her teeth of course. Strawberry doesn’t like cats, but she does like dogs. Strawberry is a pretty small rabbit, but not super small. Strawberry is also very lazy. Strawberry’s Menu Strawberry loves to eat carrot, lettuce, lettuce, strawberries and watermelon. If you were a rabbit, what would you eat? To eat, Strawberry uses her two front teeth. Her teeth are very sharp. For Strawberry’s breakfast menu she has an option of fruit salad with strawberry and watermelon, or carrot and lettuce. Most of the time she has fruit salad. For lunch and dinner she also has an option of both of those things. Where does Strawberry live? As I said before, Strawberry is very lazy, so she basically lives in her bed with the flat screen TV. Strawberry does like to go for a walk around the house and that is where she eats her meals. Who are Strawberry’s friends? Strawberry only likes dogs, rabbits, and bunnies. Strawberry is very fussy with her friends. And there might even be a dog that she doesn’t like, because she is very fussy. I like rabbits and it would be cool to be one, but the question is, would you like to be a rabbit? By Ruby

Making a pet rock

You will need:

2 small rocks about 2 by 1cm,

4 small googly eyes,

A permanent marker,

Green and yellow paint,

And a hot glue gun.

Steps:

1. Get your paint ready in two bowls.

2. Dip one of the rocks in the green paint and one in the yellow paint.

3. After they’re dry, put yellow spots on the green one and green spots on the yellow.

4. After that’s dry, put two googly eyes on each one, about 2mm apart.

5. Draw a mouth on under the eyes.

Hope you have a good time with your rocks!
