Ark Putney Academy Newsletter - 21/10/2016 Edition 5 Dear students, We have reached the final week of the first half term! It has been fantastic to see so many of you getting it right around the academy and listening to Tone, Time, Place and STEPS. It has also been brilliant to see all the house competitions that have been taking place and all the enthusiasm you have been showing. I have had so many compliments this term from members of staff, parents, prospective parents, and members of our local community about how well you all carry yourselves and what considerate and good mannered people you all are. I hope you all have a great half term and bring back the good attitude you been showing in the year so far! Well done! Ms Downey. Messages from

the Heads of Year

Congratulations on a great first half term! It’s been great watching you all settle into your lessons and embedding the Pillars. Dropping into lessons this week I’ve seen some impressive writing, fantastic stitching and questionable cooking (if you couldn’t guess they’re meant to be fish cakes!). Can’t wait to see what you guys get up to next half term. Shout out to our star of the week Kate for an impressive 69 positive points. Can anyone catch her up?

I’m looking forward to seeing the pumpkins you guys carve this afternoon and being out cheering on the football team after school. There’s a lot on next half term, from a road safety assembly to ice skating trip. Make sure that you are here on time every day doing your best to be part of it.

Have a great half term break.

Upcoming fixtures and events

• Friday 21st October: Year 7 Football Friendly @ Ark Putney Academy 3g (4:00pm kick off)• Monday 31st October, 7th November and 14th November: London Youth Games 2017 Cricket Trials and training sessions for year 7 and 8 boys and girls (For more details speak with Mr Sheehan). • Wandsworth School Games Badminton Competition KS4 boys Wed 30th November 2016 (if interested see Mr Sheehan).

U14 Basketball – Wandsworth schoolsThe under 14 girls squad travelled to Southfields for the Wandsworth Schools Basketball tournament. The first game against Southfields started well and Amiya Williams dominated with 6 points out of the 8 scored. Southfields scored a few late baskets but it wasn’t enough to overturn our commanding lead so the girls got off to a winning start. The second game was against the reigning champions of the competition, Harris Academy Battersea who bought along a large squad made up of predominantly year 9 students compared to ours which was made up of years 7, 8 and 9. The experience of the Harris squad saw them take an early lead but APA were determined to get level and with 2 minutes to go Amiya scored to take the score to 6-5. The girls did exceptionally well to hold on despite Harris throwing everything they had at them.

House Football ResultsThis week has been the house football competition which has been extremely entertaining and fun to watch, below are the results from year 7, 8 and 9.o Year 7 Winners: Brunel
