FROM THE PRINCIPAL Lisa Morresey

Kia ora koutou, Board Elections It has come to our attention today, that our BOT election process has been compromised, due to a database error. This caused a small number of parents to receive two voting forms, instead of one. We have sought NZ School Trustees Association advice on how to address the issue, and they have told us that we must undertake a new election. The Board of Trustees is in the process of establishing dates for the new election and will inform you as soon as possible of what these are. Please note; if you have already voted, you will be asked to vote again. All eligible voters will receive new voting papers once the new dates for election are set. There will be more information about this in the next few days. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused and thank you for your understanding. Sport at MMI As the students will tell you the best thing about MMI is all of the opportunities that our children are offered. Sport is a big part of school culture. The work that goes into registration, trials, selection, team placement, coach, manager and umpire allocations, uniform and equipment distribution and general communication is huge. This week alone 7 basketball teams, 9 netball teams and 8 hockey teams have taken to the court or turf. That is approximately 230 students. The Board of Trustees has generously resourced this with a Sports Co-ordinator role. You may be aware that Mr Spraggon is new to the role and to MMI. It will take time for him to become familiar with the community, the school and enormity of the role. Organisational challenges have also been compounded by the fact that we did not have person in the role for most of term one. A huge thanks to the parents and community members who have supported staff in the organisation, coaching and management of teams. We are still short of coaches for three basketball teams, two netball teams and two hockey teams. So, if your child’s team does not have a coach or manager, we need your help! Please contact Mr Spraggon if you can help. Good luck for all teams who are playing during the week and on Saturday, and to our rugby team who are representing us in Gisborne tomorrow. Play hard and play fair. Have a great weekend everyone. Ma te wa, Lisa Morresey Principal

ROOM 8 LEARNING PAGE

In Room 8 recently we have completed mirror writing which is a piece of writing that you write as if you are looking into a mirror an describing yourself to somebody. After we had written it we published them on an A3 piece of paper and designed them with a bright burst of colour to display them around the class. We have been reading multiple stories from the book “Chicken Soup For The Soul”. One of the stories that we read was called “Puppies for Sale” which was about multiple different things such as diversity, not judging a book and that everybody should be treated the same no matter what. This story included a young boy whom was looking at puppies that a store owner was selling, as all the puppies came out there was one puppy lagging reasonably behind. The boy wanted that puppy but the store owner said “That the puppy would never be able to run” and “You might as well have him for free.” The young boy rolled up his pants to reveal a badly twisted leg and said to the store owner “I don’t run so well myself.”
