Everyone Is Invited to an event on Tuesday, September
19th at 7 pm at St. Pat’s Church. There will be a
presentation by the Catholic Evangelization Outreach
(CEO). The newly formed Dubuque Area CEO is a ministry led by the Holy
Spirit to assist local parishes in the Catholic Church’s mission to evangelize. To
evangelize is simply to be instrumental in bringing others to Christ through our
witness and our words. Our effort consists of talks shared by Catholic lay people,
who will give witness to the presence of Christ in their lives. Keynote speaker for
this event will be Andrea Kirby. We welcome you and your friends to come and
hear Andrea’s witness of her amazing journey of faith. Plan to join us early at
6:45 pm for Praise and Worship music. The program will be approximately 35-
40 minutes with refreshments to follow in the church basement. We hope to see
you there!

Dear Parishioners,
A couple years ago, during my 3rd year at Mundelein, my class was able to
spend 8.5 weeks in the Holy Land. This pilgrimage is a regular part of the
program. While we were there, we not only traveled but also had regular
classes. One of our classes was on the prophets.
When we came to Jeremiah, many of us had at one time thought the same
thing that is spoken of by Jeremiah. I was duped and I let myself be duped.
To be a prophet during that time was the most difficult thing. It meant that
you would be rejected by everyone, that you were going to suffer (for some
death), everyone would abandon you, and you couldn’t stop because God
would stir your heart up so much.
For us, we often thought about the demands and challenges we would face
sometime down the road as priests. Many of us felt that we too could be
rejected by some, that suffering would happen, and if we follow God’s call, we
will continue to priesthood. It is a humbling experience to place ourselves in
God’s hands and follow His will, and something for all of us to think about.
How often do we place ourselves in front of God, rather than offer ourselves
to God? How often do we conform ourselves to this world, following the
trends rather than conforming ourselves to the will of God? Do we find
ourselves in the place of Peter, having Jesus rebuke us the same way he did to
Peter?
All of us are called to be disciples. All of us are called to offer ourselves to
God. Next time at Mass, offer yourself up, and receive yourself back glorified
so that you will not be an obstacle to the will of God.
God bless,
Fr. Davis
