Opening Hymn: Send Us Your Spirit
R: Come Lord Jesus, send us your Spirit, renew the face of the earth.
Come Lord Jesus, send us your Spirit, renew the face of the earth.
1. Come to us, Spirit of God, breathe in us now, we sing together.
Spirit of hope and of light, fill our lives, come to us, Spirit of God. R.
2. Fill us with the fire of your love, burn in us now, bring us together.
Come to us, dwell in us, change our lives, O Lord come to us, Spirit of
God. R.
3. Send us the wings of new birth, fill all the earth with the love you
have taught us. Let all creation now be shaken with love, come to us,
Spirit of God. R.
Gloria
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will.
We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you
thanks for your great glory. Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty
Father. Lord Jesus Christ, only begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God,
Son of the Father. You take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us;
you take away the sins of the world receive our prayer; you are seated at
the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the
Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus
Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.
Profession of Faith
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty maker of heaven and earth, and of all
things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only
Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages, God from God, Light
from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made consubstantial with
the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Sprit was incarnate of the Virgin
Mary, and became man. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate,
He suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day. In
accordance with the Scriptures He ascended into heaven and is seated at the
right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and
the dead and His kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the
Lord, the Giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with
the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the
prophets. I believe in one, holy catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one
Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the
dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.
Responsorial Psalm: Lord, I love your commands.
Communion Song: Behold The Lamb
R. Behold, behold the Lamb of God. All who eat, all who drink shall
live; and all, who dwell in God shall come to know His glory.
1. Those who were in the dark are thankful for the sunlight; we who
live, we who die are grateful for His gift, thankful for His love. R.
2. Peaceful now, those whose hearts are blessed with understanding of
the wheat, of the wine united with his word and the love we share. R.
3. Gentle one, Child of God, join with us at this table. Bless our lives;
nourish all who hunger for this feast; shelter them with peace. R.
4. Lord of all, give us light. Deliver us from evil. Make us one; be our
shield. Make still the winds that blow; cradle us with love. R.

Song of Sending Forth: Lead Me Lord
R. Lead me, Lord, lead me, Lord, by the light of truth to seek and to find
the narrow way. Be my way; be my truth; be my life, my Lord, and lead
me, Lord, today.
1. Blessed are the poor in spirit, longing for their Lord, for God’s coming
kingdom shall be theirs. Blessed are the sorrowing for they shall be
consoled, and the meek shall come to rule the world. R
2. Blessed are the merciful, for mercy shall be theirs, and the pure in
heart shall see their God. Blest are they whose hunger only holiness can
fill, for I say they shall be satisfied. R.

Dear Parishioners,
Several years ago, a movie called, “Life is Beautiful” was comedy/
drama about a Nazi concentration camp. My reaction was “what the
heck?” How could anyone do a comedy about such an awful topic? I
refused to go see it. Fr. Scott Bullock planned a movie night at the
seminary and he showed and discussed this movie.
While the movie was set in a concentration camp where a father
and son were interned, the comedic aspect came through the stories
the father told the son to shield him from the horrors of the camp.
The stories were about love, joy, hope, and perseverance. It was a
stunning witness to the power of story and what a liberated heart can
overcome.
For the past several weeks, our Gospel has shown us Jesus offering
a new reality: Imagine living not for the kingdoms of this earth but
the kingdom of heaven. It is striking to me how many different ways
Jesus attempted to give us an avenue into this reality.
Are we in need of some new stories today? Can we get started
through the parables?
Jesus makes a statement in the midst of these parables that doesn’t
seem to fit. He says “Whoever has ears out to hear” (Matthew
13:43b). It seems as though Jesus is acknowledging that everyone has
the capacity to hear the parables but not the willingness to engage.
Parables demand much out of the listener.
In our Gospel today, we are confronted by the idea of “selling
everything you have” to obtain the kingdom of heaven. Obviously,
“selling everything you have” has not been understood as a directive
or precept of the Catholic faith but it raises a way of living where the
kingdom of heaven becomes the guiding principle for all decisions.
The implementation of this principle is going to look very different
in each of our lives. Yet, different cannot become an excuse for no
reaction.
What if we took one of Jesus’ parables and wrote a narrative about
our own lives from his perspective? Could it be transformative?
The father in “Life is Beautiful” did this for his son and it
transformed the evil of a concentration camp into a reminder that no
matter the darkness, light cannot be contained. We need storytellers.
If you are looking for a way to get started, watch the movie and see
how one father did it for his son. What story would you write about
“selling everything you have”?
Sincerely in Christ,
Fr. David
